David Richards was not the buyer of Sheffield Wednesday. The club moved into new ownership under Arise Capital Partners, a consortium led by David Storch, in May 2026. Richards’s reported football bid was for a different club, Sheffield FC, and those offers were reported as rejected. The available evidence does not establish Richards’s current personal net worth.

Who bought Sheffield Wednesday?

On 2 May 2026, the English Football League announced that Sheffield Wednesday’s administrators had concluded an agreement transferring the club’s assets to Arise Capital Partners LLC. The consortium was led by David Storch, alongside Michael Storch and Tom Costin. The EFL said Wednesday would not receive a 15-point deduction after exiting administration. The club had named Arise and those three individuals as its preferred bidder group in a 10 March update. It said the consortium had provided a deposit and evidence of funds during the process. Sheffield Wednesday update, 10 March 2026 BBC Sport also reported completion on 2 May and described Storch as an American executive with a background in aviation services. BBC Sport, 2 May 2026

What was David Richards’s connection to a football takeover?

Reports published on 22 January 2026 concerned Sheffield FC, not Sheffield Wednesday. BBC News reported that Yorkshire AI Labs had made two bids to buy Sheffield FC and that both were rejected. The coverage described a proposal involving investment in a stadium and a Home of Football museum. BBC News, 22 January 2026 BBC News report, 22 January 2026

That distinction matters: the reported Sheffield FC proposal does not show that Richards bid for Wednesday, that a transaction was completed, or that he personally owned the capital discussed. The “hundreds of billions” language was part of Yorkshire AI Labs’ proposed investment story as reported by BBC News; it is not proof of a funded pool of money or Richards’s personal wealth. What can be established about David Richards’s wealth?

A 2024 IntelliAM AI Plc admission document records Richards as having an indirect interest in 3,446,383 ordinary shares. It explains that Yorkshire AI Labs (Alpha) Limited held the shares, Yorkshire AI Labs LLP was its sole shareholder, and DJHP Holdings—whose sole shareholders were Richards and his spouse—held a 40% interest in Yorkshire AI Labs LLP. IntelliAM AI Plc admission document, 2024

This is evidence of a historical, indirect shareholding, not a current net-worth calculation. The disclosed share count does not by itself show the stake’s present market value, any restrictions or liabilities, Richards’s other assets, or the division of beneficial ownership within the related entities. It therefore cannot support a reliable estimate of his total personal wealth.

How did Richards build his wealth?

The available material does not provide a sufficiently documented account of Richards’s career, income, assets and liabilities to explain how he built his wealth or to assign him a defensible current net-worth figure. The corporate filing supports a specific historical connection to IntelliAM shares through Yorkshire AI Labs-related entities; the reported Sheffield FC bid supplies no additional proof of personal wealth. A proposed investment, a corporate holding and an individual’s net worth are different measures.
