The 2025 Toyota Camry starts at $28,700, while the 2025 Lexus ES starts at $43,315 for either the ES 350 or ES 250, before destination charges, taxes, and dealer fees, according to Toyota’s 2025 Camry listing and published Lexus pricing. That is a headline difference of $14,615.
The Lexus does provide something the Camry cannot fully duplicate: a quieter cabin, more isolated ride, richer interior materials, and a more traditional luxury-car experience. But the Camry is newer, exclusively hybrid, more fuel-efficient, available with all-wheel drive, and earned an IIHS Top Safety Pick+ designation.
For most buyers managing a household budget, the 2025 Camry is the better value. The Lexus premium makes sense only if you place a high dollar value on comfort, refinement, the ES 350’s V6, or the Lexus ownership experience—and are willing to pay for those benefits after comparing actual out-the-door prices.
The price gap is large enough to change the financial decision
Using published U.S. starting MSRPs, the least expensive 2025 Lexus ES costs $14,615 more than a base Camry LE:

| Model | Starting MSRP | Difference from Camry LE |
|---|---|---|
| 2025 Toyota Camry LE | $28,700 | — |
| 2025 Lexus ES 350 or ES 250 | $43,315 | $14,615 |
The Camry lineup reaches $36,425 for an XSE with all-wheel drive, according to Toyota’s 2025 model information. That still leaves the well-equipped Toyota below the Lexus’s starting price, although options, accessories, destination charges, and dealer pricing can narrow the difference.
Do not compare only the advertised sticker. Ask for a buyer’s order showing the vehicle price, destination charge, documentation fee, accessories, taxes, registration, financing charges, and any protection products. A Lexus discounted heavily from remaining inventory could have a smaller real-world gap than its MSRP suggests, while a highly marked-up or optioned Camry could cost more than expected.
Financing also magnifies the difference. For example, before interest, putting the entire $14,615 gap into a 60-month loan would represent about $244 per month. The actual payment depends on the interest rate, down payment, taxes, and fees, but the point is important: the Lexus premium is not a minor trim-level upgrade. It can affect whether you need a larger down payment, carry a bigger loan, or sacrifice savings to buy the car.
Powertrains: the Camry gives you hybrid efficiency at every price point
2025 Toyota Camry
Every 2025 Camry is a hybrid. Its 2.5-liter four-cylinder hybrid system produces, according to Toyota’s 2025 Camry brochure:
- 225 net combined horsepower with front-wheel drive.
- 232 net combined horsepower with all-wheel drive.
- An electronically controlled continuously variable transmission.
- Front-wheel drive as standard, with electronic on-demand all-wheel drive available throughout the lineup.
Fuel economy varies by trim and drivetrain. The most efficient Camry LE with front-wheel drive is rated at 51 mpg combined, while the XSE with all-wheel drive is rated at 44 mpg combined. Toyota lists the LE FWD at 53 city, 50 highway, and 51 combined mpg; the XSE AWD is listed at 44 city, 43 highway, and 44 combined mpg, according to the Toyota brochure.
2025 Lexus ES
The ES offers three different mechanical identities, according to the 2025 Lexus ES brochure:

| Version | Powertrain | Output | EPA combined fuel economy |
|---|---|---|---|
| ES 250 AWD | 2.5-liter four-cylinder, eight-speed automatic | 203 hp | 28 mpg |
| ES 350 | 3.5-liter V6, eight-speed automatic | 302 hp | Approximately 25–26 mpg |
| ES 300h | Hybrid, electronically controlled CVT | 215 hp | 44 mpg |
The ES 350 is the performance choice, with a naturally aspirated V6 and substantially more power than either hybrid. The ES 250 is the all-wheel-drive choice, but its fuel economy is far below the Camry’s. The ES 300h is the efficiency choice, yet it is front-wheel drive only and has less system output than the Camry AWD’s 232 horsepower.
That makes the Camry unusually difficult to beat on measurable operating value. It combines hybrid efficiency, more power than the ES 300h, and available AWD. The Lexus advantage is not fuel economy or hybrid output; it is the way the car delivers its performance.

Where the Lexus premium goes: quietness, comfort, and materials
The ES’s strongest financial justification is experiential rather than numerical. Its suspension is more compliant, its seats are notably comfortable, and its cabin does a better job isolating occupants from road and tire noise, as described in Car and Driver’s 2025 ES review. On a long commute or frequent highway trip, those qualities may matter more than horsepower or screen size.
The Camry’s 2025 redesign gives it a more modern cabin and substantially improved technology, but it remains a mainstream midsize sedan. Even an upscale Camry XLE does not completely reproduce the ES’s quieter environment, seat comfort, interior finish, or luxury-dealer presentation.
That distinction is most relevant to buyers who:
- Spend several hours each week on highways.
- Carry adult passengers in the rear seat.
- Are especially sensitive to road noise or firm ride quality.
- Plan to keep the vehicle long enough to enjoy the comfort difference every day.
- Prefer a V6 and smooth conventional automatic transmission over a hybrid powertrain.
A back-to-back test drive is essential. Drive the same route in a Camry XLE or XSE and an ES 300h or ES 350. Listen at highway speed, check seat support after 30 minutes, inspect rear-seat space, and compare how much road vibration reaches the steering wheel and seat. If the differences are obvious and meaningful to you, the premium may be rational. If you have to search for them, the Camry is probably the better financial decision.
Technology is not an automatic Lexus win
The Camry can be equipped with a 12.3-inch Toyota Audio Multimedia touchscreen, a 12.3-inch digital gauge display on applicable trims, wireless smartphone connectivity, and available JBL premium audio. The XLE includes the 12.3-inch touchscreen as standard, according to Toyota’s 2025 Camry brochure.

The ES has an 8.0-inch standard touchscreen and an available 12.3-inch display. It supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a 10-speaker audio system is standard according to Car and Driver’s 2025 ES specifications.
Do not pay the Lexus premium based on an assumption that the 2025 ES lacks smartphone integration. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are available as standard equipment. The more relevant comparison is whether you prefer the interface, display layout, audio system, and physical controls in the specific vehicles you are considering.
Safety and the cost of risk
The 2025 Camry earned an IIHS Top Safety Pick+ designation. Standard equipment includes Toyota Safety Sense 3.0, blind-spot detection, and vehicle-to-vehicle and pedestrian front crash prevention. Rear automatic braking is optional, according to the IIHS 2025 Camry rating.
The ES uses Lexus Safety System+ 2.5. Standard features include automated emergency braking with pedestrian and cyclist detection, lane-departure warning with lane-keeping assistance, adaptive cruise control, and blind-spot monitoring.

Warranty coverage favors Lexus, but not by enough to erase the price gap
| Coverage | 2025 Toyota Camry | 2025 Lexus ES |
|---|---|---|
| Basic warranty | 3 years/36,000 miles | 4 years/50,000 miles |
| Powertrain warranty | 5 years/60,000 miles | 6 years/70,000 miles |
| Hybrid-battery warranty | 10 years/150,000 miles | 10 years/150,000 miles on ES 300h |
| Complimentary maintenance | 2 years/25,000 miles | 1 year/10,000 miles |
| Roadside assistance | 2 years, unlimited mileage | Not specified here |
Warranty terms and ToyotaCare coverage are listed in Toyota’s 2025 Camry announcement; Lexus coverage is summarized in Car and Driver’s 2025 ES specifications.
Lexus provides longer basic and powertrain warranties. However, the hybrid-battery coverage is effectively equivalent between the Camry and ES 300h. Toyota also includes more complimentary scheduled maintenance by the stated mileage limit.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteWarranty coverage reduces the risk of certain repairs; it does not make the Lexus cheaper to own overall. Before buying, ask the dealer for the maintenance schedule and prices for services not covered by the complimentary plan. Compare those costs with the interest you will pay on the larger Lexus loan and the opportunity cost of using more cash for the purchase.
One important timing issue: the 2025 ES is an outgoing model
The 2025 model year was the final year of the current-generation Lexus ES. Lexus redesigned the ES for 2026 with hybrid and battery-electric powertrains. As a result, a new 2025 ES may be available only from remaining dealer inventory, while used examples could become the more common way to shop this model, as announced by Lexus.
This creates both an opportunity and a caution. A dealer may discount an outgoing 2025 ES to clear inventory, but availability, color, equipment, and financing offers may be limited. Do not assume that an old model year is automatically a bargain. Compare its final selling price with a newer Camry, check the in-service date for warranty purposes, and verify whether the vehicle is genuinely new, a dealer demonstrator, or previously titled.

Choose the Camry LE when:
- You want the lowest purchase price and strong fuel economy.
- You want to preserve cash for an emergency fund, home expenses, or other goals.
- You drive enough for the hybrid system to reduce fuel spending.
- You want a new car but do not want a luxury-car payment.
Choose the Camry XLE when:
- You want the closest Camry substitute for the ES’s upscale atmosphere.
- You value heated front seats and the larger touchscreen.
- You want to remain below $40,000 before taxes and fees, depending on equipment.
- You want hybrid efficiency and available AWD.
The XLE is the most relevant Camry for a luxury comparison, but it still does not duplicate the ES’s isolation and materials. Buy it because it provides enough comfort for your needs—not because it is identical to the Lexus.

Choose the ES 300h when:
- You want Lexus comfort with hybrid efficiency.
- You do not need all-wheel drive.

How to make the comparison financially sound
- Set an all-in budget. Include taxes, registration, destination, dealer fees, accessories, insurance, fuel, maintenance, and financing.
- Compare equivalent equipment. A base Camry LE and a loaded ES are not direct feature matches. Price a Camry XLE or XSE with the equipment you actually want.
- Get insurance quotes first. Use the VIN for each exact vehicle, because trim and repair costs can affect premiums.
- Request independent financing. A bank or credit-union preapproval gives you a benchmark for the dealer’s offer. Compare the annual percentage rate and total finance charge, not only the monthly payment.
- Test-drive both on the same route. Include rough pavement, a highway, low-speed turns, and rear-seat evaluation.
- Check remaining inventory carefully. For a 2025 ES, confirm the model’s title status, warranty start date, mileage, and available incentives.
- Buy the comfort difference only if you will use it. The Lexus premium is easier to defend for a high-mileage commuter than for someone who drives occasionally and mainly wants low ownership costs.
FAQ
Is the 2025 Lexus ES worth $14,615 more than the Toyota Camry?
Usually not for a value-focused buyer. The Camry offers a lower starting price, better fuel economy, available AWD, newer technology, and stronger 2025 IIHS test performance. The ES can be worth the difference if its quieter ride, more comfortable seats, richer materials, longer basic warranty, or ES 350 V6 are priorities you will use every day.
Which gets better gas mileage, the 2025 Camry or ES 300h?
The Camry generally wins. The most efficient Camry LE FWD is rated at 51 mpg combined, while the Lexus ES 300h is rated at 44 mpg combined. The Camry also offers AWD, whereas the ES 300h is front-wheel drive only.
Does the 2025 Lexus ES have Apple CarPlay and Android Auto?
Yes. The 2025 ES supports both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It has an 8.0-inch standard touchscreen and an available 12.3-inch display.
Should I buy a new 2025 ES now that the 2026 model is redesigned?
Only after checking the discount and vehicle status carefully. The 2025 ES is the outgoing generation, so remaining inventory may be limited. Confirm whether the car is new, a demonstrator, or previously titled; check when its warranty began; and compare its all-in price with a newer Camry and the redesigned 2026 ES.

The 2025 Toyota Camry is the rational buy; the 2025 Lexus ES is the experiential buy. The Camry delivers more measurable value through its lower price, hybrid-only lineup, better fuel economy, available AWD, newer technology, and Top Safety Pick+ rating.
The ES earns its premium through a quieter and more comfortable cabin, higher-grade materials, stronger basic and powertrain warranty coverage, and the ES 350’s 302-hp V6. Pay extra only if you can identify those benefits during a back-to-back test drive and fit the higher purchase price, insurance, and financing costs comfortably into your budget.
