This was a 2024 Black Friday promotion, not a current Fido offer. MobileSyrup reported on November 29, 2024, that Fido listed the iPhone 16 at $26.38 per month after a discount, an iPhone 16 with fourth-generation AirPods at $40.84 per month, and the Google Pixel 8a at $0 per month in device financing. Those were device-payment figures—not proof of a complete monthly bill or a phone with no service obligation. What Fido’s Black Friday promotion included
The reported prices below are historical device-financing amounts from MobileSyrup’s November 29, 2024 update. They should not be read as current prices or as the full cost of wireless service.

The same report listed other phones at promotional monthly amounts, including the Galaxy S24 FE at $10.83, Pixel 9 at $15, Pixel 9 Pro at $25, Pixel 9 Pro XL at $30, and Pixel 9 Pro Fold at $50. What “free Pixel 8a” meant—and what remains unclear
The most defensible description is that the Pixel 8a was listed at $0 per month in device financing. That is different from a zero-down offer, a device fully covered by monthly credits, or a phone that comes with no associated costs. Fido’s payment-program information says devices are generally financed over 24 months at 0% interest, subject to approved credit, and promotional credits appear on the wireless bill. The available 2024 offer report does not establish the Pixel’s precise credit schedule or whether the listing required a new activation, a second line, a specific plan, port-in, or a particular sales channel. In particular, the $0/month device amount does not answer whether a customer would need to pay for an extra wireless line to obtain the phone. If a second line was required, its recurring service cost could outweigh the apparent device savings for someone who did not need that line. The published report does not settle that condition; only the customer’s written offer or agreement could.
How to calculate the real 24-month cost
Compare the full cost of the offer with the cost of buying the same phones and services another way. Do not compare a device installment with a plan-inclusive monthly bill.

- Earlier updates referenced a $39/month 60GB plan available online and in stores.
- A $54/month 60GB 4G plan with Canada/U.S. calling, including a $10 autopay discount, was also reported.
- A $44/month 80GB plan with calling and texting from Canada to several countries—including the U.S., Bangladesh, China, Hong Kong, India, Mexico and the U.K.—was reported with a $10 autopay discount.
- Reported bring-your-own-device versions were $44/month for 60GB with Canada/U.S. calling and $49/month for 80GB with the listed international calling and texting features.
These are dated reported prices, not a single package of terms that every buyer could combine. The plan price, eligibility and channel need to be verified in the actual offer. MobileSyrup’s November 2024 updates
Fido also notes that a first bill can include partial service charges from activation to the billing-cycle end plus a full month’s charges, so the first invoice may exceed the recurring amount. Fido’s billing explanation

Financing, credits and the cost of leaving early
Fido’s current payment-program guidance describes 24 monthly payments at 0% interest, subject to approved credit. Taxes may be financed, although tax on any required down payment is due at purchase. Under the standard program, the device is paid off after 24 months. Promotional credits are applied to the bill, so the agreement and bill should show the device amount and credit separately.
Those credits do not make early cancellation risk-free. Fido says cancelling service, transferring service, upgrading under a new financing agreement, or moving to an ineligible plan can end the payment program and make the remaining device balance payable. The sample financing agreement likewise describes repayment of an outstanding device balance in relevant circumstances. Fido’s store policy generally allows 15 days from activation to return a mobile device, with a 30-day period for customers with a disability, subject to the policy’s return conditions. The policy notes that used SIM cards, headsets and earpieces may not be refundable. Who the offer was likely to suit
Potentially a good fit
- A household that genuinely needed two phones and would use both lines.
- A buyer who wanted an iPhone 16 and the specified fourth-generation AirPods, and found the combined financing worthwhile after checking the written breakdown.
- A customer comfortable staying with Fido and an eligible plan for the financing term.
- A buyer who received written confirmation of the Pixel’s eligibility, required lines and monthly credits.
Likely a poor fit
- A single-line customer who did not want or need a Pixel or another phone line.
- A low-data user who could pay less with a BYOD plan and an unlocked phone.
- Someone likely to switch carriers, change to an ineligible plan or upgrade before the financing term ends.
- A buyer who did not want AirPods or would prefer the value as a lower phone cost.
- Anyone who could not verify whether the promotion was restricted to a particular activation, customer type or sales channel.
What to verify on the written offer
Before accepting a similar carrier promotion, ask for an itemized monthly and upfront breakdown. For this historical offer, the unanswered details cannot be reconstructed from the reported headline prices.
- The exact plan name, monthly price, data amount and number of required lines.
- Whether the Pixel 8a required a new activation, second line, eligible plan, port-in or specific channel.
- Each device’s model, storage capacity and financed amount; for AirPods, the exact fourth-generation version.
- The amount and duration of every promotional credit, and whether credits start on the first bill.
- Taxes, down payment, connection or setup fees, delivery charges and an estimate of the first invoice.
- The remaining device balance and credit treatment if you cancel, transfer service, change plans or upgrade early.
For a useful comparison, price the Fido arrangement against the cheapest realistic alternative that provides the same phones, accessories, data and number of lines—for example, an unlocked iPhone with BYOD service, a one-phone carrier deal, or a two-line family plan you already need. The right comparison is total cost over the same period, not “free Pixel” versus no Pixel.
