Before you log in
Have the phone number or email address associated with your existing account, internet access, and a way to receive a verification message. Install Cash App from the Apple App Store or Google Play; avoid APKs and third-party download sites. Cash App’s U.S. terms say first access from a new device may require additional authentication, so be ready to verify your identity or account ownership. Cash App U.S. Terms of Service also say the service is available through the app or cash.app website.
Cash App’s electronic-communications terms refer to a recent device capable of downloading applications and receiving text messages, as well as access to the email address used for the account. Cash App E-Sign Consent
Log in with the same phone number
- Install the official app. Use the Apple App Store on iPhone or Google Play on Android.
- Open Cash App and choose the existing-account option. The label may say “Log in,” “Sign in,” or something similar. Do not choose “Sign up.”
- Enter the phone number or email address tied to your account. The available login choices and wording may vary by app version, device, and account.
- Enter the latest verification code. Check your text messages or email, including junk and filtered folders. Only enter the code in the official app or Cash App website.
- Complete any additional verification. A new device can prompt Cash App to request more information or documentation.
- Check that you reached the right account. Confirm the display name, $Cashtag, balance, transaction history, and Cash Card or linked services before sending money or changing account details.

If you changed your phone number
- Try the email address already associated with the Cash App account, if the login screen offers email as an option.
- If you can access the account on another trusted device, update your contact information in Cash App if that option is available.
- If you cannot access either the old number or account email, contact Cash App through an official support route and be prepared for account-ownership checks.
A new phone number does not automatically transfer an account, and Cash App does not publish a guaranteed self-service recovery sequence for every number-change situation. Its terms say account information must be kept current and that Cash App may verify ownership of an email address, phone number, or financial instrument. Don’t keep creating replacement accounts while trying to recover the original.
If you lost, traded in, or wiped the old phone
The old handset itself is generally not the login credential; access to a linked phone number or email and any required additional verification are what matter. If the phone was lost or stolen, secure the number with your mobile carrier and promptly report the device to Cash App. Cash App lists the in-app Help Center, cash.app/help, and 1-800-969-1940 as support routes. After regaining access, review recent transactions and account changes. Cash App says alerts can flag a new-device login or changes to security settings such as a phone number, email address, PIN, or Security Lock. Cash App scam-prevention guidance
If the verification code does not arrive
- Check that you entered the number or email actually linked to the account.
- For SMS, check cellular service, blocked numbers, and carrier message filters. For email, check junk, spam, promotions, and other filtered folders.
- Restart the phone and check that it has a working internet connection or can receive messages.
- Wait briefly before requesting another code. If several arrive, use the newest one.
- Try the account email if the app offers that route.
- If the code still does not arrive, use Cash App’s official support channels.

If Cash App cannot verify the account
This may be an account-ownership or security review, not an app-installation problem. A new-device check, mismatched details, incomplete identity verification, conflicting accounts, or an existing restriction can affect access. Cash App may request additional information or documentation; its terms say that if it cannot verify an account, the user may be required to set up a new one. That is a possible account-status outcome, not the normal result of changing phones.
- Provide truthful, current information and follow instructions shown in the app or from official support.
- Do not create multiple accounts while the original is being reviewed.
- Do not pay anyone who claims they can unlock or recover the account.
- Never give a supposed representative your login code, password, PIN, or full debit-card number. Cash App says its representatives will not ask for a password, PIN, or full debit-card number.
If the account looks empty or unfamiliar
A missing balance or history, a different $Cashtag, an unfamiliar name, or a new-profile setup may mean you signed into a different account or started creating one. Stop before linking a bank account or making transactions. Compare the profile and $Cashtag with what you expect, then contact official Cash App Support and explain that you meant to access an existing account. Don’t move money between accounts as a first troubleshooting step.

Secure the account after you regain access
- Confirm the phone number and email on the account are current.
- Review recent activity for transfers or profile changes you did not make.
- Enable Security Lock if needed. Cash App says it can require Face ID, a fingerprint, or a PIN to unlock the app or move money. Cash App: What Is Cash App and How Does It Work?
- Keep account alerts enabled, update your phone’s operating system, and use a screen lock.
- If you still have the old phone, remove Cash App from it after securing the new device. If it was stolen, report it and secure your mobile account with the carrier.
- Avoid login links in unsolicited texts or emails; open the official app or type Cash App’s address yourself.

Use in-app Help or Chat, visit cash.app/help, or call 1-800-969-1940. Cash App identifies that number as its only support phone number. Do not rely on numbers or recovery offers found in unsolicited messages or social-media posts. Never share a login code, password, PIN, or full debit-card number with a caller or online contact.
