SecurityWeek counted 37 cybersecurity-related mergers, acquisitions, sales and operational combinations announced in September 2024. The largest disclosed transaction was Mastercard’s planned $2.6 billion acquisition of threat-intelligence company Recorded Future. The count is an announcement-period roundup—not a tally of 37 completed acquisitions or a definitive census of every global deal.
What the 37-deal count includes
SecurityWeek published its roundup on October 4, 2024, counting transactions it tracked as announced during September. The list combines conventional company acquisitions with planned acquisitions, sales and divestitures, commercial mergers, an operational combination between nonprofit projects, and deals for products, business units or customer bases. It also includes businesses whose work touches data protection, payments fraud, IT services or secure data collection rather than only pure-play cybersecurity.
SecurityWeek reported 178 cybersecurity M&A deals for the first half of 2024 and described it as the least busy first half since it began tracking deals in 2021. That is SecurityWeek’s count and comparison, not an industry-wide authoritative census. Read SecurityWeek’s September roundup.
The 10 highlighted transactions
The roundup highlighted the following transactions. Values are the amounts reported at announcement; they should not be read as verified final consideration or enterprise value. Where a deal was announced as planned, it is labeled accordingly.

What the deal mix suggests
The pattern is broader than security vendors buying other security vendors. The transactions point to several areas where cybersecurity capabilities were being combined with adjacent services and platforms:
- Threat intelligence, fraud and payments: Mastercard’s planned Recorded Future deal and Visa’s planned Featurespace deal connect security capabilities with financial-services platforms, threat intelligence and fraud prevention.
- Data protection and recovery: Commvault–Clumio and Salesforce–Own Company extend protection and management of cloud or enterprise data.
- Managed services and IT providers: ConnectWise’s acquisitions of Axcient and SkyKick sit alongside deals involving providers such as Accompio, FluidOne, Magna5 and others, reflecting continuing consolidation across IT and managed-security services.
- Defense and operational environments: DNV–CyberOwl concerns maritime cyber risk, while Patria–WithSecure, BAE Systems–Kirintec and GDIT–Iron EagleX add to activity involving defense-oriented capabilities.
- Identity and secure workflows: ColorTokens–PureID and Unico IDtech–Trully.AI involve identity-related capabilities; Kiteworks–123FormBuilder adds secure data-collection workflows.
- Ownership changes and noncommercial combinations: EQT’s sale of Open Systems and Summa Equity’s acquisition of NetGuardians are ownership transactions, while Tails–Tor Project is an operational merger between nonprofits.
These are interpretations of the transaction mix, not a quantified measure of investment by segment. The roundup does not provide enough disclosed values to total September’s market activity or establish how much capital went to any one category.

How to read the roundup accurately
- An announcement is not a closing. Some entries were expressly planned acquisitions or sales. The roundup is a historical record of announcements, not a transaction-by-transaction post-close status report.
- Not every deal covers a whole company. The WithSecure transaction involved a product and business; the Pango transaction involved Kaspersky’s U.S. antivirus business and customer transition.
- “Cybersecurity-related” is a broad category. The list includes data protection, fraud prevention, IT services, secure data workflows, nonprofit privacy projects and defense contractors, not just pure-play security firms.
- The count is source-specific. Treat 37 as SecurityWeek’s September 2024 tracking count, not as proof that every worldwide private or smaller transaction was captured.
- Only three headline values were disclosed in the roundup. They are not enough to calculate an aggregate deal value, and each is an announcement-time reported figure.
