Cyber Monday 2024 fell on Monday, December 2. Many retailers had already started holiday promotions during Thanksgiving weekend, so the day was the final peak of a longer Cyber Week—not a guaranteed window for the lowest price. Adobe Analytics reported $13.3 billion in U.S. online spending that Monday, but those sales figures do not mean every product was a bargain. All 2024 promotions discussed here are historical and have expired.
What Cyber Monday was—and when it happened
Cyber Monday is the online-focused counterpart to Black Friday. By 2024, the distinction had blurred: retailers often spread promotions across Thanksgiving, Black Friday weekend and Monday, with some offers beginning earlier or continuing while inventory lasted. The date in 2024 was Monday, December 2.
That extended window matters when comparing offers. A product advertised as a Cyber Monday deal may have been available earlier, and the calendar date alone does not establish that its price was the best of the season.
Where shoppers looked for deals
Contemporary coverage identified Amazon, Walmart, Target and Best Buy as major participants in Cyber Monday promotions. Retailers also worth comparing for relevant categories included Home Depot and Lowe’s for tools and appliances; Costco and Sam’s Club for member-priced merchandise; Macy’s, Kohl’s and other department stores for apparel, beauty and home goods; and manufacturers’ own websites for direct offers.

Adobe Analytics reported category discount peaks measured against listed prices; these are not typical discounts or guarantees for individual products. Its post-event analysis also found strong toy sales. The figures are historical U.S. Cyber Monday results, not a forecast for a later year.

Other shoppers commonly compare small kitchen appliances, vacuums, mattresses, furniture, beauty devices, skincare sets, tools, holiday décor and digital subscriptions. For appliances and furniture in particular, include delivery, installation, warranty and return costs in the comparison. Adobe’s category figures do not establish the discount on any one of these products.

Was Cyber Monday better than Black Friday?
Not universally. Adobe’s September 2024 holiday forecast anticipated faster year-over-year growth for Black Friday than for Cyber Monday, reflecting the shift toward earlier promotions. Cyber Monday nevertheless became the largest online-spending day of 2024 in Adobe’s measurement. A spending record describes consumer activity, not which day offered the best price on a particular item.
Compare the offer on its merits: product and model, final checkout total, inventory, shipping, coupon eligibility, gift-card conditions, warranty and return policy. Buying earlier made sense when an item had a compelling verified price, was likely to sell out, or was needed before the holiday. Waiting could make sense for a widely stocked, non-urgent product when the current price was weak and a later promotion had been announced. Neither approach guaranteed a lower price.
How to judge whether a deal was real
- Record the product’s price before the promotional period and consult price history when available.
- Compare the exact model number and configuration—not merely the product name or photo.
- Check at least two or three sellers, including whether each listing is sold and shipped by the retailer or a marketplace seller.
- Calculate the full cost after shipping, taxes, membership requirements, coupons and any conditions attached to a gift card or cashback offer.
- Ask whether the stated regular price reflects a recent selling price. A large percentage off a suggested price does not prove strong value.
- Read the return window, restocking-fee rules, warranty coverage and any restrictions for opened, activated or final-sale goods.
- Confirm delivery estimates or store-pickup availability if the item is a holiday gift.
- Check the product specifications for a sale-specific model, reduced configuration, refurbished condition or missing accessories.
- Review the final cart total before submitting the order; coupons can fail because of exclusions, minimum spends, app-only rules or limits on combining offers.
- Treat countdown clocks and low-stock messages as prompts to verify availability, not evidence that the offer is good.
A gift card, coupon or cashback rate should be valued only if its terms suit the purchase. A future-use gift card is not the same as an immediate price reduction, and cashback may require activation, an eligible payment method or a specific shopping portal.

Mobile shopping and safer checkout
Adobe reported that mobile devices accounted for 57% of U.S. Cyber Monday online sales in 2024, approximately $7.6 billion in spending. This describes Adobe’s analyzed sales data, not all shopping worldwide.
- Use a retailer’s official app only when it provides a real benefit, and verify app-only offers in the cart.
- Sign in and confirm payment and delivery details before a rush, then check the final order total on the confirmation screen.
- Navigate to official retailer websites or verified apps instead of following suspicious social-media ads, texts or delivery notices.
- Use account protections such as two-factor authentication, and avoid unfamiliar browser extensions or links promising unusually large discounts.
Payment plans, rewards and the real cost
Adobe’s September 2024 forecast expected buy-now-pay-later spending to reach a November record and Cyber Monday to be the largest BNPL day of that year. That was a forecast about transaction volume, not evidence of consumer savings.
BNPL changes the timing of payment, not the purchase price. Before choosing it, check the total obligation, payment schedule, fees, consequences of missed payments, credit-reporting practices and how returns are handled by the provider. Credit-card rewards do not justify interest charges if a balance is carried. Gift-card and cashback offers also have eligibility and timing rules; confirm them before relying on their advertised value.

What the 2024 shopping data showed
Adobe Analytics reported $13.3 billion in U.S. online Cyber Monday spending, up 7.3% year over year, and $41.1 billion across Cyber Week from Thanksgiving through Cyber Monday. Adobe described the day as the largest online shopping day of 2024; this is Adobe’s measurement, not a census of every transaction worldwide. Its analysis found peak spending from 8 to 10 p.m., at $15.8 million per minute.
The National Retail Federation and Prosper Insights & Analytics estimated that 197 million consumers shopped in stores or online over the five-day Thanksgiving-to-Cyber-Monday period. Their estimate for Cyber Monday specifically was 64.4 million online shoppers, down from 73.1 million in 2023. These are survey-based estimates of people, not counts of orders or website visits. NRF’s pre-event forecast was 183.4 million shoppers for the five-day period, lower than the later estimate.
After the sale: delivery, returns and price changes
A promotion may continue after Monday, but stock can disappear and delivery cutoffs can make a cheaper offer impractical. Check the delivery estimate and local pickup separately, and keep the order confirmation and return deadline. For gifts, check whether the retailer offers a gift receipt and whether the holiday return window differs from its standard policy.

Before purchasing, read the retailer’s price-adjustment policy; it varies by seller, category, membership and promotion, and a refund for a later price drop is not automatic. If an item arrives damaged or does not arrive, use the seller’s stated reporting process and keep relevant order and delivery records. For a lower post-event price, compare the actual savings against the risk of losing stock or missing the delivery date. Open-box or refurbished alternatives can cost less, but compare condition, warranty and return rights before choosing one.
