Rogers announced its “Wrapped in Red” Black Friday promotion on November 16, 2021. The historical offers included select phones advertised from $5 or $10 per month, a $125 accessory credit spread over 24 months, and promotions on tablet plans and entertainment. The low phone payments came with conditions such as Upfront Edge financing, bill credits or a required trade-in; they were not unconditional prices or free phones. These offers have expired and are not current Rogers prices.

What Rogers advertised for phones

MobileSyrup reported the following device prices for the November 2021 promotion. The monthly amounts were promotional figures, not the total cost of a phone, service plan, taxes or any deferred balance. Rogers’ website display error affected several of the prices in the detailed list; see the correction below.

Device Reported promotional payment Reported condition or comparison
iPhone 12 mini $0 down, $10/month Advertised as an Upfront Edge example.
Google Pixel 6 $0 down, $10/month Advertised through Upfront Edge.
iPhone 13 $0 down, $5/month Required a trade-in of an eligible iPhone 11.
Samsung Galaxy S20 FE 128GB $0 down, $15.83/month Reported after bill credit; regular reported monthly price was $50.
Samsung Galaxy Z Flip3 $0 down, $30/month Reported after bill credit; regular reported monthly price was $52.34.
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold3 $0 down, $70/month Reported after bill credit; regular reported monthly price was $92.21.

Why the iPhone 12 mini has two prices

The report gives two different iPhone 12 mini figures: $10 per month in its Upfront Edge example and $7.09 per month in its detailed list after bill credit. The available account does not establish why they differed, so neither figure should be treated as a universal price or used to reconcile the other.

A reported website pricing correction

MobileSyrup said Rogers notified it on November 17, 2021, at 11:58 a.m. ET that a website display error had shown incorrect prices for the Galaxy Z Flip, Motorola Edge, iPhone 12 mini, Galaxy S21 and iPhone 12 Pro; the prices were subsequently updated. That correction means the listed figures for those devices are historical prices as reported, not proof of what every customer would have seen at checkout.

What Upfront Edge meant for the advertised payment

Rogers’ Upfront Edge structure lowered the amount shown as the monthly device payment by deferring part of the device cost. As described in the 2021 coverage, the financing period was two years; at its end, the customer generally had to return the device in acceptable condition or pay the deferred amount to keep it. The monthly figure therefore did not represent the cost of owning the phone outright with no end-of-term obligation.

  • $0 down meant no down payment was reported for the offer; it did not mean the device was free.
  • A bill credit reduced the advertised payment under the promotion. It was not necessarily a permanent reduction in the device’s underlying price.
  • A trade-in was a separate condition or value applied to an offer. It should not be confused with the deferred Upfront Edge amount.
  • The device payment did not include the wireless plan, taxes or other possible charges.

The source does not establish that every phone required the same plan, financing arrangement or customer eligibility. New activations, upgrades, trade-ins and plan changes may have been treated differently; the available coverage does not establish a universal rule for existing Rogers customers or outright purchases.

Accessory, tablet and entertainment promotions

$125 accessory credit

Rogers advertised a $125 accessory credit spread over 24 months for customers activating a device during the promotion. It was intended for accessories such as cases and chargers. The published account does not establish whether the credit applied automatically, required a particular activation channel or plan, or whether unused credit expired; those details should not be assumed.

Tablet plan

The reported offer included a tablet plan free for 24 months when paired with a Rogers Infinite plan costing $90 per month or more. The coverage does not establish all activation or device requirements, so the plan threshold alone should not be read as proof that every customer with a qualifying phone plan was eligible.

Disney+ and Apple Music

Six months of Disney+ and Apple Music were reported as perks on selected Infinite plans. The coverage described these as plan benefits, not necessarily Black Friday-exclusive discounts, and did not establish that they applied to every Infinite plan.

How to judge the real cost of a phone promotion

A headline payment is only one part of the commitment. For a comparable offer, calculate the expected total over the period you must keep the plan, and account for the phone’s deferred balance and any trade-in or credits:

Device payments + required plan charges over the term + any deferred amount if you keep the phone − applicable trade-in value and credits.

Taxes and any activation or upgrade charges also affect the bill. The exact total for a 2021 Rogers customer cannot be reconstructed from the reported monthly phone prices alone because the customer’s plan, taxes, trade-in assessment and final contract terms are not specified.

Questions to check before accepting a similar offer

  • What is the device’s financed price before promotional credits?
  • Which credits apply, how long do they last, and what happens if the plan changes or service is cancelled?
  • What amount is deferred, and what condition must a returned device meet?
  • Does the offer require a new activation, plan change, upgrade or particular financing option?
  • Is the trade-in model eligible, and is its value guaranteed or subject to inspection?
  • What is the full monthly bill after service, taxes and other charges?

The 2021 report does not specify Rogers’ detailed trade-in inspection rules. For any comparable offer, confirm whether damage, activation locks, missing components or other device-condition issues could change eligibility or value rather than assuming a particular inspection outcome.

Who the promotion suited—and who might have paid more overall

The offers were most relevant to shoppers who already wanted Rogers service, could meet the offer’s activation or plan conditions, and were comfortable with the financing terms. A trade-in-dependent price also required the specified eligible device. With Upfront Edge, a customer needed to be willing to return the phone in acceptable condition or pay the deferred amount at the end of the term.

A low device payment could be a poor fit for someone who wanted to own a phone outright, expected to switch carriers before the financing term ended, or preferred a lower-cost bring-your-own-device plan. Compare the plan cost as well as the device payment: a discounted phone does not necessarily make a higher-cost service plan the cheapest overall option. The accessory credit would have little value to someone who did not need accessories, and it should not be treated as an immediate reduction in the phone balance.

What remains relevant today

“Wrapped in Red” was a Rogers promotional label, not a permanent offer. Rogers used the branding again in later holiday material, including 2022 promotions involving mobile and home plans, trade-ins and Upfront Edge; that later material does not change the 2021 prices or terms. See Rogers’ 2022 holiday material for that separate campaign. The phone models, prices and plan conditions in this article describe a November 2021 promotion, not what Rogers offers now.
