This is a retrospective, not a current top-ten ranking: a SlashGear article published December 14, 2024, selected these ten TVs using Consumer Reports ratings and commentary from other review outlets. It did not present an official Consumer Reports ranking of the ten models. The list is useful for comparing premium sets from that period, but it is not a broad survey of budget or midrange choices. Prices and stock have changed since publication, and availability varies by size and seller.
The list’s top-rated model, according to SlashGear’s account, was the LG G4. For many shoppers, though, the LG C4 is the more practical starting point: it combines OLED contrast, Dolby Vision, and four HDMI 2.1 ports without the G4’s flagship premium. The right pick depends on room brightness, gaming needs, formats, and what the model costs today.
What “according to Consumer Reports” means here
The ten models below are those covered in SlashGear’s December 14, 2024 article, which says it combined Consumer Reports’ highly rated TVs with commentary from other review outlets. That is different from Consumer Reports publishing this exact top-ten ranking. SlashGear described the LG G4 as the highest-rated of the ten in Consumer Reports’ testing, but the article does not provide comparable Consumer Reports scores for all ten. Treat the list as a curated set of well-regarded premium TVs, not as a score-based league table or a complete market survey. Read the original SlashGear article.
The models span 2023 and 2024 generations and three brands—LG, Samsung, and Sony. There is no dedicated budget pick or mini-LED value option, so a lower-priced or brighter-room shopper may want to look beyond this group.

The ten TVs, and who should consider each
1. Samsung QN90D QLED: for bright rooms
The QN90D is the list’s only QLED LCD model. Its high-brightness, reflection-handling pitch makes it a sensible option for daytime viewing, sports, or a room with sustained ambient light. Samsung uses Tizen. Unlike OLED, an LCD panel does not rely on self-emissive pixels, so buyers concerned about image retention may prefer this type of display.
The trade-off is that it cannot deliver OLED’s pixel-level black control, and Samsung does not support Dolby Vision. “QLED” alone does not guarantee a particular brightness, local-dimming quality, or viewing angle; those depend on the specific model and size.
2. Sony Bravia 8 OLED: for cinematic viewing
The 2024 Bravia 8 pairs OLED contrast with Sony picture processing and Google TV. SlashGear also highlights PlayStation 5 features including Auto Genre Picture Mode and Auto HDR Tone Mapping. It is a natural candidate for film and TV viewers who value Sony’s presentation, though it is not the obvious first choice for a very sunlit room.
Sony’s store listing has included the Bravia 8 in 55-, 65-, and 77-inch sizes. An indexed listing showed $1,799.99 for a 65-inch configuration with a displayed discount; that is a page snapshot, not a guaranteed current offer. Check the live price, input configuration, stand, and warranty for the precise size.
3. LG C3 OLED: a prior-generation bargain if the deal is real
The C3 is a 2023 OLED that made the 2024 selection in part because the arrival of the C4 could make it less expensive. Its webOS platform, color, picture modes, major streaming services, Dolby Vision, and Dolby Atmos make it a capable older-generation set.
Rank #2
- Breathtaking picture: Sharp 4K brings out rich detail on our 55" flat screen TV, while the QLED screen and HDR10 create bright, accurate colors. Roku Smart Picture cleans up incoming TV signals, optimizes them, and chooses the right picture mode.
- Seamless streaming: With fast Wi-Fi and apps that launch in a snap, Roku Select Series TVs get you to your entertainment quickly. You get excellent picture quality, clear sound, automatic updates, and more. It’s simple to use. Hard to outgrow.
- TV, simplified: With setup that only takes minutes, a simple-to-navigate Home Screen, and an uncluttered remote control that does all you need—Roku makes it easier to watch the TV you love.
- A world of free entertainment: Enjoy a huge selection of free live TV, news, sports, movies, shows, and much more—all just a click away.
- More streaming, less searching: With personalized picks right on your Home Screen, quick access to the sports and entertainment you watch most, and fast and easy search in one place—the days of endless scrolling are over.
By 2026, the C3 is a discontinued-generation purchase, not a normal current-model recommendation. Consider one only if the price is meaningfully below a newer alternative and the seller clearly states whether it is new, open-box, refurbished, or used. Check the panel, return rights, seller authorization, and warranty before paying.
4. Samsung S90C QD-OLED: colorful gaming at a discount
The 2023 S90C uses QD-OLED, combining OLED’s self-emissive pixel behavior with quantum-dot color reproduction. SlashGear points to Samsung gaming features including Motion Xcelerator Turbo Pro and Object Tracking Sound Lite. Its thin design and lower prior-generation pricing were part of its appeal.

The S90C is now an older model: judge it by its condition, warranty, and price against newer sets rather than its original flagship positioning.
5. Samsung S95D QD-OLED: premium viewing with glare reduction
The S95D was Samsung’s 2024 flagship OLED in this group. Samsung’s product page lists OLED Glare Free and Motion Xcelerator support up to 144Hz, alongside OLED HDR Pro. Its glare-reducing finish may help in mixed lighting while retaining OLED blacks. Samsung’s official 77-inch page showed an indexed price of $4,599.99, but the indexed page did not show delivery or pickup availability; do not treat that figure as a live quote. Check Samsung’s S95D page.
The S95D is a costly choice and lacks Dolby Vision. A matte or glare-reducing surface can also look different from a glossy screen in a dark room, so consider your viewing conditions and preference rather than assuming one finish is universally superior.
6. Sony Bravia XR A95L QD-OLED: for enthusiasts who value Sony’s approach
The A95L is a 2023 QD-OLED with a 120Hz panel, Google TV, and PlayStation-oriented features. It is the more ambitious Sony option for viewers prioritizing cinematic presentation and processing, but its age and price make a current comparison essential.

SlashGear flags two practical drawbacks: two HDMI 2.1 ports and a stand that may need a wide furniture surface. Sony’s official store has listed 55-, 65-, and 77-inch versions; an indexed listing showed $4,499.99 for a 65-inch configuration with a displayed discount. This is a snapshot, not a current-price guarantee. At a price close to a newer model, the A95L is difficult to justify unless you specifically value its features. Check Sony’s OLED television listings.
7. LG G3 OLED: for a wall-mounted theater
The 2023 G3 is a design-focused flagship OLED. LG’s Brightness Booster Max was intended to raise luminance compared with lower-tier models, and the set supports Dolby Vision, Dolby Atmos, and Filmmaker Mode. It can make sense as a discounted wall-mounted centerpiece, especially when paired with a soundbar or receiver.
SlashGear criticizes its built-in sound and notes that a conventional stand may not be included. Confirm exactly what is in the box for the specific package and market; do not assume a wall-mount-oriented model is ready for tabletop placement.
8. LG C4 OLED: the balanced pick for many buyers
The 2024 C4 is the most natural all-rounder in this group for many movie, gaming, and general-use households. It supports Dolby Vision and Filmmaker Mode, has four HDMI 2.1 ports, and supports refresh rates up to 144Hz. SlashGear also identifies NVIDIA G-SYNC and AMD FreeSync Premium support. Against the 2023 C3, the gains were incremental rather than a wholesale change.
Choose the C4 over the G4 if you want much of the premium OLED experience without needing the flagship’s higher brightness, construction, or broader large-size range. For a room with intense daylight, compare it with a bright LCD option instead of choosing OLED on black levels alone.
9. Samsung S90D OLED: check the exact size and SKU
The S90D is Samsung’s 2024 OLED model, with Tizen, Real Depth Enhancer, Object Tracking Sound Lite, and gaming-oriented features. SlashGear says Consumer Reports rated it slightly above the more expensive S95D in its testing; that is an attributed comparison, not a universal reason to choose it over the S95D.

Samsung does not support Dolby Vision, and SlashGear’s cited review commentary also notes the absence of built-in Chromecast. Do not assume every S90D size uses the same panel technology or behaves identically: verify the precise model number and size before comparing it with another OLED. Samsung continues to list S90D variants, but availability is inconsistent. See a Samsung S90D product listing.
10. LG G4 OLED: the flagship choice in the original list
SlashGear identifies the 2024 G4 as the highest-rated TV among these ten in Consumer Reports’ testing. It is LG’s flagship OLED in the group, aimed at viewers who want high-end performance across movies, gaming, and sports. It supports Dolby Vision, Dolby Atmos, Filmmaker Mode, and high-refresh-rate gaming features. The article reported that the 65-inch G4 included a stand, unlike the G3 package it discussed; check the actual package for your market and size.
The G4 is most compelling when its higher brightness, premium design, or size options solve a real need. If you would not notice those advantages, the C4 may be the more sensible spend. LG’s OLED range now features newer generations, so compare current models and warranties before buying an older G-series set.
OLED, QD-OLED, or QLED: which display fits your room?
| Type | What it does well | Trade-offs | Often suits |
|---|---|---|---|
| OLED | Each pixel emits its own light, enabling very deep blacks and strong contrast; fast response also suits gaming. | Image retention is a use-dependent risk, not an inevitability. The brightest LCDs can be preferable in very bright rooms. | Movies, darker rooms, and gaming |
| QD-OLED | Self-emissive OLED behavior with quantum-dot color reproduction and strong color volume. | Often premium-priced; the Samsung models here do not support Dolby Vision. | Enthusiasts and gamers prioritizing vivid color |
| QLED LCD | Can provide high brightness and avoids OLED pixel-retention concerns. | Blacks are not pixel-level; blooming and viewing-angle limits may occur. | Daylight, sports, and bright family rooms |
These labels are not complete performance specifications. Local dimming, reflections, brightness, viewing angle, and panel behavior vary by model and size. For room and display-type trade-offs, LG’s TV buying guide also recommends choosing around room size, lighting, and viewing habits.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How to choose the right TV for your use
Start with room light, reflections, and size
If you watch in a bright room or during the day, sustained brightness and reflection handling may matter more than OLED’s black levels. Compare the QN90D or S95D for different approaches: LCD brightness versus OLED contrast with a glare-reducing finish. In a darker room, the C4, G4, Bravia 8, or A95L may be more appealing.
Measure the wall, furniture, doorways, and viewing distance before buying a large set. An oversized display can be physically awkward and make low-quality broadcast or compressed streaming sources look less forgiving. Availability also varies by size, so do not assume every model is offered in the diagonal you want.

Match HDR formats to what you watch
If Dolby Vision support is a priority, the LG C3, C4, G3, and G4 are the clear choices among these ten. The Samsung models discussed here omit Dolby Vision. Consider the services and discs you actually use; support for one HDR format should not outweigh room fit, price, or other essential features.
Check the whole gaming connection, not just “120Hz”
For a console or gaming PC, check the exact size and SKU for refresh rate, HDMI 2.1 bandwidth, variable refresh rate, Auto Low Latency Mode, and support for 4K at 120Hz or 144Hz with compatible devices. Count the ports you will use: four HDMI 2.1 ports are a C4 advantage, while the A95L is noted for having two. If you use Dolby Vision Gaming, verify that the specific TV supports it rather than inferring support from a general HDR label.
Sony’s Auto Genre Picture Mode and Auto HDR Tone Mapping can be useful for PlayStation owners, but they do not make a Sony TV automatically best for every console setup. Input response, port needs, supported formats, and price still matter.
Account for sound, stand, and mounting
A thin flagship panel does not guarantee theater-quality built-in audio. The G3 is specifically criticized for sound in the 2024 coverage, and a soundbar or receiver may improve the complete setup. Check whether the stand is included, whether its feet fit your furniture, and whether wall-mount hardware is supplied. The A95L’s stand may need a wide surface, while the G3 may not come with a conventional tabletop stand.

Older models can still be good buys when the discount is substantial, the panel is in sound condition, and the seller provides a meaningful warranty and return window. The C3, G3, S90C, and A95L are 2023-generation options; the C4, G4, Bravia 8, QN90D, S95D, and S90D are 2024 models. By 2026, later generations are also on sale, so do not compare an old model’s launch MSRP with a newer model’s temporary sale price as if they were equivalent.
For open-box, refurbished, used, or showroom OLED units, ask about static-content exposure and inspect for burn-in, uneven wear, dead pixels, and tinting during the return period. Buy from a seller whose warranty, return terms, and authorization status are clear. Imported models can have different tuner standards, apps, warranties, or voltage compatibility.
Practical recommendations
- Best all-around starting point: LG C4, for its Dolby Vision support, four HDMI 2.1 ports, and broad movie and gaming fit.
- Best premium flagship in this 2024 group: LG G4, if its brightness, design, or size range is worth paying extra for.
- For a bright room: Samsung QN90D when LCD brightness and avoiding OLED retention concerns come first; S95D when OLED blacks and glare reduction are also priorities.
- For Sony movie preferences: Bravia 8 as the more straightforward 2024 option; consider A95L only if its particular presentation justifies the price and port trade-offs.
- For an older-model deal: C3 or S90C only when materially cheaper than current alternatives and backed by clear condition, return, and warranty terms.
These are use-case recommendations, not a ranking of the current 2026 TV market. Manufacturer pages list later generations alongside some older sets, and stock changes by region and screen size. Check current stock and specifications through Sony, Samsung, and LG before buying.
