DRDO RAC Advertisement No. 156 originally offered 152 Scientist B posts and listed 4 July 2025 as the application deadline. RAC later extended the deadline to 8 August 2025 at 16:00 IST; 4 July remained the date used to determine age eligibility. An addendum added three DST posts, bringing the total to 155. The application cycle is closed, and RAC reported final cutoffs available to shortlisted candidates by 28 April 2026.
What the 2025 DRDO Scientist B notice covered
Recruitment & Assessment Centre (RAC) Advertisement No. 156 was for direct recruitment to Scientist B posts in DRDO and other Ministry of Defence establishments. The original notice listed 152 vacancies: 127 in DRDO, nine in the Aeronautical Development Agency (ADA), and 16 encadred posts. A later addendum added three vacancies at the Department of Science and Technology (DST), bringing the total to 155. The RAC advertisement page and DRDO addendum are the official places to consult the notice documents.
These posts were not all DRDO appointments. The 2025 notice said ADA hires would be designated Scientist/Engineer B and would not be part of DRDO. Encadred posts attached to armed-services establishments were not transferable to DRDO establishments.
Deadline: why the notice says July 4 but the final date was August 8
The original application deadline was 4 July 2025 at 16:00 IST. RAC later extended the submission deadline to 8 August 2025 at 16:00 IST. The extension did not change the age-determination date: age was still calculated as of 4 July 2025. The distinction matters when reading older listings that repeat the original “apply till July 4” wording.

Posts, pay and organizations
| Notice detail | What RAC/DRDO stated for the 2025 cycle |
|---|---|
| Original vacancies | 152: 127 DRDO, 9 ADA and 16 encadred posts (RAC Advertisement No. 156). |
| Total after addendum | 155, after three DST vacancies were added (DRDO addendum to Advertisement No. 156). |
| Pay level and basic pay | Level 10 of the 7th CPC pay matrix; basic pay of ₹56,100 per month (RAC Advertisement No. 156). |
| Estimated monthly emoluments | Approximately ₹1,00,000 at the then-current metro-city rate, as estimated in the 2025 advertisement. This was an estimate, not a guaranteed take-home amount. |
The vacancy list spanned different organizations and disciplines, so the organization attached to a post mattered as much as its title. In particular, an ADA or encadred appointment should not be read as a DRDO posting.
Eligibility: degree, discipline, GATE paper and age
The advertisement covered 16 disciplines, including Electronics and Communication Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Metallurgy/Material Science, Physics, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Aerospace/Aeronautical Engineering, Mathematics, Civil Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Entomology, Biostatistics, Clinical Psychology and Psychology.
Applicants needed a valid GATE score from 2023, 2024 or 2025 in the paper corresponding to the advertised discipline. Degree requirements varied by post: engineering vacancies generally specified at least a first-class bachelor’s degree in the relevant discipline, while many science and psychology roles required a relevant master’s degree. Clinical Psychology also required registration with the Rehabilitation Council of India. The notice and its vacancy table—not a general assumption about “Scientist B” eligibility—determined which qualification matched each post.
Rank #3
- Upper age limit as of 4 July 2025: 35 years for UR/EWS, 38 for OBC non-creamy layer, and 40 for SC/ST.
- Relaxations were available under applicable government rules.
- The DST addendum waived the first-class/division condition only for its three added vacancies. Other eligibility and application conditions remained unchanged.
How selection worked
RAC planned to shortlist eligible candidates using relevant GATE scores at a 1:10 ratio, subject to eligible candidate availability and discipline/category merit. Shortlisted candidates were to attend a personal interview in Delhi or another location selected by RAC/DRDO.
Final merit combined GATE and interview performance. The GATE score carried 80% of the weight and the interview 20%. Candidates also had to meet the minimum interview mark: 70% for UR, and 60% for EWS, OBC, SC, ST and Divyangjan candidates. Appointment remained subject to medical examination and verification of character, antecedents and applicable category certificates.

What the application process required
These are the requirements of the expired 2025 cycle, not instructions to make a current application. Candidates had to register online and submit a finalized, locked application with supporting documents. The notice warned that an application not locked/finalized would be rejected.
The application fee was ₹100 and non-refundable for male candidates in the General, EWS and OBC categories. SC, ST, Divyangjan and women candidates were exempt. Applicants serving in government or government-owned organizations also had employer-intimation or NOC steps to follow.

RAC cautioned candidates against fraudulent calls or demands for payment. The 2025 advertisement stated: “RAC does not request for any payment at any stage of recruitment process except the application fee as mentioned at Para 4, as applicable.” Treat unsolicited payment requests as suspicious; use official RAC channels to verify recruitment communications.
RAC recruitment versus CEPTAM
DRDO uses different recruitment routes for different job families. RAC handles scientist recruitment, including Scientist B. DRDO identifies CEPTAM as the route for DRTC, Admin and Allied cadre recruitment. A person seeking technical or administrative cadre roles should therefore check the relevant CEPTAM announcement rather than assume this Scientist B notice covers those jobs. See DRDO’s “How can I join DRDO?” guidance for the route distinction.
How to use this notice when assessing a future opening
For a later Scientist B cycle, compare the exact vacancy entry with your qualifications rather than relying on the 2025 figures or dates. Check the degree and discipline, the required GATE paper and accepted score years, the employing organization, category-wise vacancies and applicable age rules. If a future addendum introduces an exception, verify whether it applies only to specified posts, as the first-class/division waiver did for the three DST vacancies in 2025.
