GamesBeat reported the proposed price as up to €80 million, or $89.68 million—the source of the rounded $89.7 million figure. Bigpoint’s announcement said Youzu would acquire 100% of the company, but the sources cited here do not establish the transaction’s actual closing date or Bigpoint’s present-day ownership.
How much did Youzu agree to pay for Bigpoint?
GamesBeat reported that Youzu agreed to acquire Bigpoint for up to €80 million, which it rendered as $89.68 million in its March 22, 2016 report. The $89.7 million in the headline is a rounded version of that reported figure. The amount was not disclosed in Bigpoint’s announcement, and Game Developer described the fee as undisclosed in its account, so the figure should be attributed to GamesBeat rather than treated as a price confirmed by both companies. GamesBeat’s report and Game Developer’s coverage provide the contemporaneous accounts.

Why did the companies say they were combining?
The announcement presented the acquisition as a way to expand the companies’ global presence in online and mobile games. Bigpoint described the combined companies’ intended market presence as “over 200 countries”; that was company language about an ambition, not an independently verified reach figure. GamesBeat also reported that the companies wanted to extend their global publishing presence.
Investment in new games was part of the contemporaneous rationale. Game Developer reported that Bigpoint’s planned launch of Hocus Puzzle was to receive a worldwide marketing budget exceeding €30 million, reported there as $33.7 million. This was a reported plan at the time, not evidence that the budget was ultimately spent. Game Developer’s report covered the marketing plan and expected timetable.

What did the announcement say about Bigpoint’s games and brand?
Bigpoint said the brand would continue and that the company planned to keep developing and supporting its current games and ongoing projects. Those statements describe the plan announced in March 2016; the announcement does not establish what happened to each game or the brand afterward.
Bigpoint’s then-CEO, Khaled Helioui, framed the proposed partnership as an opportunity to invest in the company’s talent, games and audience. He said: “With this collaboration, Bigpoint begins the next chapter in its history focused exclusively on the quality of titles published. With the support of Youzu, we will be able to further invest in our talent, the amazing experiences they create and the reach of our games.” He also said, “Partnering with a player-centric product-focused organization such as Youzu will allow us to have the means of our ambition: Great gaming for everybody.” These were Helioui’s views on the announced deal, not an independent assessment of its results.
