An Apple Authorized Reseller is an independent business approved to sell Apple products. It is not an Apple-owned store, and its authorization does not mean Apple controls the retailer’s prices, inventory, promotions, or return policy.
That distinction matters when you are comparing the total cost of a Mac, iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, or accessory. A reseller may offer a lower price or a useful bundle, but the deal can also come with different return deadlines, membership requirements, marketplace sellers, or open-box conditions.
What is an Apple Authorized Reseller?
An Apple Authorized Reseller is an independent company approved to sell Apple products. Apple describes these businesses as providing product sales, industry expertise, multiplatform services, and Mac-based solutions.

- Which Apple models and configurations to stock.
- How much to charge.
- Which discounts, bundles, gift cards, or financing offers to provide.
- How long customers have to return products.
- Whether a product is sold directly by the retailer or through a marketplace seller.
Authorization is therefore a useful legitimacy check, but it is not a promise that every listing on a retailer’s website is new, discounted, or covered by the retailer’s most favorable terms.
How to verify an authorized reseller
The safest way to check a store is Apple’s sales locator. Do not rely only on a retailer’s logo, a search-engine result, or an old “authorized dealer” claim.
- Open Apple’s Find Locations page.
- Select Sales.
- Select Explore Sales Locations.
- Enter a location, city, or ZIP code.
- Choose All Products, iPhone, Mac, iPad, or Apple Watch.
- Select Go and review the results.
Apple’s results identify Apple Stores and Apple Authorized Resellers. Use the sales locator rather than the service locator: repair authorization and sales authorization are separate designations.

Apple says products purchased through other retailers must be returned to those retailers under their own return and refund policies. Buying from an authorized reseller does not turn the purchase into an Apple Store purchase.

- Costco: Costco’s Apple product page labels Costco an Authorized Reseller. Its selection can include Mac, iPad, iPhone, Apple Watch, AirPods and other audio products, accessories, and AppleCare+.
- B&H Photo: B&H identifies itself as an Apple Authorized Reseller and provides an Apple Business Manager reseller ID for organizational purchases.
- Adorama: Adorama identifies itself as an Apple authorized reseller and sells products such as Mac, iPad, Apple Watch, AirPods, Beats, and Apple TV.
- Best Buy: Best Buy currently advertises Apple repair through its Apple Authorized Service Provider offering. That designation alone is not proof that every Best Buy sales channel or listing is an authorized-reseller sale. Verify the relevant location through Apple’s sales locator.
Large retailer names do not eliminate the need to inspect the listing. A website may also show used, refurbished, open-box, or third-party marketplace inventory alongside products sold directly by the retailer.
How to compare an Apple reseller deal
Apple authorization does not require a retailer to charge Apple’s price. Resellers may discount an older configuration, include an accessory, offer a store gift card, or run a membership promotion. Compare the complete transaction rather than the headline discount.
- Match the exact configuration. Check the Apple part number or model number, chip, memory, storage, screen size, color, cellular or Wi-Fi capability, and regional version. A cheaper device may simply have less storage or memory.
- Confirm the condition. Make sure the item is labeled new if that is what you want. Open-box, refurbished, used, and clearance products can have different return and warranty terms.
- Identify the actual seller. Look for language such as “sold and shipped by.” A product displayed on a major retailer’s website may be supplied by a marketplace seller rather than the retailer itself.
- Calculate the required spending. A price may depend on a paid membership, coupon, trade-in, carrier activation, financing, or a minimum purchase.
- Check inventory status. “Available” may mean available for backorder rather than ready to ship or collect.
- Read the return terms before paying. Check the deadline, restocking fee, shipping responsibility, condition requirements, and rules for opened software or activated devices.
- Compare the net price. Include sales tax, shipping, required membership fees, gift-card restrictions, accessory costs, and any interest from financing.
For example, a $100 gift card is not the same as a $100 reduction if you would not otherwise shop at that retailer. Likewise, “0% financing” may be affordable only if every payment is made on time and the promotion has no deferred-interest conditions.
Apple’s own offers are separate
Apple’s online store may offer trade-in credit, education pricing, carrier promotions, financing, and certified refurbished products. Those offers should not be assumed to apply at an independent reseller.
Before choosing a reseller discount, compare:
- The final price after trade-in credit.
- Education or employer purchasing eligibility.
- Carrier activation requirements.
- Financing interest and repayment period.
- The value and restrictions of a retailer gift card.
- Whether Apple’s certified refurbished product includes a different condition standard or warranty arrangement.
A lower sticker price can be outweighed by a shorter return period, less convenient support, or a configuration that does not meet your needs.

Warranty, receipts, and coverage
Apple’s standard hardware warranty is Apple’s warranty. An authorized reseller cannot rewrite, extend, or modify it. Apple may require proof of purchase before providing warranty service.
Keep the original itemized receipt. Apple says an acceptable receipt should be legible and include:

- The purchase date.
- The invoice or receipt number.
- The purchase price.
- The reseller’s contact information.
- The device serial number, if the reseller normally includes it on receipts.
Apple says documentation used to update device records or verify coverage must be issued by an Apple Authorized Reseller when that documentation is required. Save a PDF or photo of the receipt rather than relying on an email that may later disappear.
To find a Mac’s serial number, use one of these paths:
- Apple menu > About This Mac.
- Option-click the Apple menu, open System Information, and select Hardware.
- Sign in at account.apple.com, select Devices, and choose the Mac.
- In Terminal, run
ioreg -l | grep IOPlatformSerialNumber.
Use the serial number with Apple’s coverage-checking process. If the purchase date or coverage appears wrong, the receipt is the evidence you may need to correct Apple’s records.

Can you buy AppleCare+ from a reseller?
A reseller may offer AppleCare+ during checkout, but the plan’s eligibility and terms still come from Apple. Keep the retailer’s sales receipt and the AppleCare proof-of-coverage document.

Do not assume every used, refurbished, open-box, or older device qualifies. Check eligibility before buying an extended protection plan, and compare its price with the device’s likely repair cost and your ability to absorb an unexpected bill.

The retailer’s return policy generally controls a reseller purchase. Apple’s normal retail return policy does not automatically apply.
Before opening the box, record the return deadline and any conditions that could reduce your refund. Common issues include:

- A shorter return period than Apple’s policy.
- Restocking or shipping charges.
- Returns accepted only at the original sales channel.
- Different rules for opened, activated, or personalized devices.
- Marketplace products requiring contact with the individual seller.
Apple describes a special process for customers who reject Apple’s One-Year Limited Warranty, but it is narrow—not a general satisfaction guarantee or price-match program. In the United States and Canada, the customer must contact Apple within 14 days of purchase and meet documentation and return requirements, including proof showing the reseller’s name and address, product and version, purchase date, and purchase price. The customer name on the receipt must also match the return.
For an ordinary defective-product or change-of-mind return, start with the retailer that took your payment. For a warranty claim, Apple or an authorized service provider may be appropriate depending on the issue and the coverage terms.
Reseller versus service provider
These labels refer to different activities:
- Apple Authorized Reseller: authorized to sell Apple products.
- Apple Authorized Service Provider: authorized to perform in-warranty and out-of-warranty repairs using Apple-certified technicians and, where applicable, genuine Apple parts.
- Independent Repair Provider: may perform certain out-of-warranty repairs but is not the same as an Apple Authorized Service Provider.
- Apple Store: owned and operated by Apple.
A business can have one designation without having the others. Apple maintains separate locators and programs for sales and repairs.

An Apple Authorized Reseller can be a good place to find a lower price, a bundle, or convenient local stock—but authorization is not the same as Apple ownership. Verify the store with Apple’s sales locator, compare the exact configuration and total cost, confirm who is selling the item, and save the itemized receipt. Most importantly, read the reseller’s return policy before checkout: the retailer, not Apple, normally handles returns and refunds.
