The best LinkedIn Learning course is not necessarily the one with the highest view count. It is the one that helps you earn more, qualify for better work, or save time on tasks you already perform.
For personal-finance purposes, the strongest choices combine workplace usefulness with a realistic time commitment. The list below includes technical skills such as Excel, SQL, Power BI, and Python, along with project management, communication, leadership, cybersecurity, and time management. Course availability and features can vary by subscription, employer license, or library access, so verify the exact course page before starting.
How these courses can support your finances
Professional development has a financial payoff only when you use it. A course certificate by itself will not guarantee a raise or new job. The practical value comes from applying the skill to a work project, adding evidence to your portfolio, or using it to make a credible case for expanded responsibilities.
Technical courses may help you qualify for analyst, operations, reporting, or automation work. Communication, project management, and leadership courses can be useful when you are trying to move into a higher-responsibility role. Time-management training may not change your job title, but it can help you handle a larger workload without relying on unpaid overtime.

1. Excel Essential Training (Microsoft 365) (2025)
Best for: Almost anyone who works with business data, budgets, reporting, or office documents.
- Instructor: Dennis Taylor
- Duration: 2 hours 56 minutes
- Released: February 24, 2025
Excel remains one of the most broadly useful workplace skills. This course covers core Excel tools for managing and analyzing data and is the first course in LinkedIn Learning’s current Master Microsoft Excel path.
It is especially relevant to personal finance because Excel can support household budgeting, debt payoff plans, cash-flow tracking, business expense records, and financial reporting at work. Look specifically for the title containing “(Microsoft 365) (2025)”. LinkedIn Learning also lists older courses, including Excel 2016 Essential Training, which may not match the version used by your employer.
2. Power BI Essential Training
Best for: Professionals who need to turn data into dashboards and reports.
- Instructor: Gini von Courter
- Duration: 3 hours 34 minutes
- Released: June 16, 2025
Power BI is a logical next step after Excel for someone who wants to move from spreadsheets into business intelligence. The course covers connecting to data, analyzing it, creating interactive reports and dashboards, and working with Power Query, Power Pivot, and DAX.
A useful project after completing it would be a dashboard showing monthly spending by category, income versus expenses, or sales and margin trends—using sample or anonymized data rather than sensitive personal information. Choose the current course rather than the older Power BI Essential Training (2022) unless you specifically need older software coverage.
3. SQL Essential Training
Best for: Aspiring data analysts, application developers, and anyone who works with databases.

SQL teaches you how to retrieve and work with information stored in databases. That makes it a more transferable foundation than learning only the interface of one analytics application. The course covers database fundamentals and core query syntax, and it includes interactive Code Challenges powered by CoderPad.
SQL can be a strong career investment for people targeting analyst or reporting roles, but there is an important limitation: syntax varies among PostgreSQL, MySQL, SQL Server, Oracle, and other systems. Treat the course as a foundation, not as proof that every query will run unchanged in your employer’s database.

8. Leadership Foundations
Best for: First-time managers and individual contributors preparing to lead.
- Duration: 1 hour 56 minutes
- Level: Beginner
- Released: May 11, 2023
This introductory course is part of a LinkedIn Learning Professional Certificate. Its short length makes it practical for someone preparing for a management transition or taking on informal leadership responsibilities.
Use it as a starting framework for one-to-ones, feedback conversations, delegation, and team decisions. It cannot replace management experience, coaching, or your employer’s policies. The financial value is greatest when you connect the ideas to a specific leadership opportunity rather than listing the course passively on your profile.

Best for: Help-desk staff, system administrators, IT support professionals, and technical employees moving toward security work.
- Duration: 2 hours 57 minutes
- Level: Beginner

This course connects cybersecurity concepts to day-to-day IT responsibilities. That makes it a sensible foundation for technical employees who want to work more securely or explore a move into security.
It is not a substitute for a current certification-preparation course or hands-on security lab. LinkedIn Learning separately lists preparation material for credentials such as Security+ and CISSP. If your goal is higher pay in cybersecurity, compare this introductory course with the specific job postings and certifications required in your target market.

How to find the exact course
- Open LinkedIn Learning.
- Enter the course title in the search bar at the top of a Learning page.
- Choose the suggested result or click the Search icon.
- Use the sort menu to select Best match, View count, or Newest.
- Use the left-side filters for content by, type, level, time to complete, software, and other available categories.
For a precise result, place the title in quotation marks, such as "SQL Essential Training". This is particularly useful for titles with older editions still appearing in search results.
How to get more value from a LinkedIn Learning subscription
- Choose one outcome. Decide whether the course is for a promotion, job application, portfolio project, improved performance, or a personal-finance system.
- Schedule the lessons. A two-hour course completed over four 30-minute sessions is easier to apply than a course left unfinished in your library.
- Use the exercise files when available. On the course page, open Overview, then look under Related to this course for Exercise Files. Not every course includes them, and some files require the relevant third-party software.
- Produce evidence. Save a dashboard, sample SQL queries, Python script, presentation, project plan, or written process improvement—using sample or anonymized data where appropriate.
- Connect it to a conversation. Ask your manager for a project where the new skill can be used, or mention the specific result in an interview rather than only naming the course.
Exercise-file access can differ by interface and app version. LinkedIn’s current help guidance says exercise files can be accessed through both the desktop experience and the Learning mobile app, although an older tutorial says they are desktop-only.
Certificates, access, and what they do not prove
LinkedIn Learning automatically generates a Certificate of Completion when it detects that all videos in an eligible course or learning path have been completed. Assessments and exercise files are not required. These certificates are not accredited, endorsed by third parties, or equivalent to software certifications.

Access also varies. Individual subscriptions, Premium plans, employer licenses, and library access may not expose the same catalog or features. Certificates are available to active LinkedIn Learning subscribers and certain Premium subscribers, while library patrons generally cannot access current or past certificates.
After finishing a course, use My Library → Learning History → More (…) → Add to profile. Each individual video must show a green checkmark before LinkedIn recognizes the course as completed.

FAQ
Are LinkedIn Learning certificates worth anything?
They can document that you completed a course, but they are not professional certifications, accredited degrees, or proof of mastery. The strongest use is alongside evidence of what you built or improved with the skill.
Which LinkedIn Learning course is best for beginners?
Excel Essential Training, Project Management Foundations, Communication Foundations, Leadership Foundations, and PowerPoint Essential Training are accessible starting points. Beginners interested in technical careers can start with SQL Essential Training or Python Essential Training.

1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsCan LinkedIn Learning help me get a higher-paying job?
It can help you build skills that appear in job descriptions, but a course alone does not guarantee a job or raise. Apply the material to a portfolio project, workplace result, or specific job requirement to make the training more valuable.
Can I access LinkedIn Learning exercise files on a phone?
LinkedIn’s current help guidance says exercise files can be accessed through the desktop experience and the Learning mobile app, although the exact interface may vary by app version. Not every course includes exercise files.
The Bottom Line
For the broadest workplace payoff, start with Excel Essential Training (Microsoft 365) (2025). Choose SQL, Power BI, or Python when you have a specific data or automation goal; choose project management, communication, or leadership when you are preparing for more responsibility. Whichever course you select, turn the lessons into a measurable work result or portfolio example. That is what gives the training a plausible career and financial return.
