Krafton India, the company behind Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI) in India, was named in a Maharashtra FIR over allegations that player information was unlawfully shared or sold through Telegram. The reported allegation included a price of about ₹2,000 per user. Krafton denies the claims. The FIR records an accusation and triggers an investigation; it does not prove that a sale occurred or that BGMI players generally were affected.
What happened in the Krafton case?
Published reports say Maharashtra resident and BGMI user Santosh Torane complained that Krafton India had breached confidentiality obligations under an online service agreement and that user information was offered or sold through Telegram. Reports identify the FIR as No. 0474/2024, registered at Akluj Police Station on September 5, 2024. The alleged price of around ₹2,000 per user is a claim attributed to the complaint, not a verified transaction price. India Today’s report summarizes the allegations and reported legal provisions.
Coverage describes the complaint as arising from one user’s case. It does not establish that all BGMI players’ information was disclosed. Reports use “user data” broadly; the material cited in coverage does not specify whether the alleged information included names, contact details, account credentials, device identifiers, gameplay records, or another category.
What the FIR does—and does not—mean
An FIR, or First Information Report, records information about an alleged cognisable offence and ordinarily enables police investigation. It is not a finding of guilt. Registering an FIR does not independently establish that data was sold, that Krafton used Telegram to sell it, that the quoted price reflects a completed transaction, or that other players were affected. Those questions would depend on evidence such as authenticated digital records, witness accounts, relevant agreements, police findings and any later court proceedings.

Reports say the FIR cited IPC Sections 120-B and 420 and Sections 72, 72A and 85 of the Information Technology Act, 2000. These are provisions reportedly invoked in the FIR, not offences a court has found Krafton committed. The available material does not establish the precise statutory basis or how each provision applies to the alleged conduct.
How the case reached the police
According to TalkEsport’s account and subsequent coverage, Torane first sent complaints to Akluj police and the Solapur Superintendent of Police in November 2023. After alleged inaction, he approached a magistrate. A Judicial Magistrate First Class at Malshiras reportedly directed an investigation under Section 156(3) of the Code of Criminal Procedure on August 28, 2024, followed by the reported FIR on September 5, 2024.

Some secondary coverage gives September 2023 as the FIR date. That conflicts with the more consistently reported September 5, 2024 date and the reported August 2024 magistrate direction. What Krafton said
Krafton denied the allegations and said its internal review found no evidence supporting claims of a data leak, unauthorized disclosure or monetization. The company also described the claims as groundless and said data security remained a priority. Yonhap reported Krafton’s response on April 15, 2025. This is Krafton’s position; an internal review is not the same as independent forensic verification or a court ruling.

What the Bombay High Court proceedings mean
Krafton India challenged the FIR and related proceedings through Criminal Writ Petition Nos. 4806 and 5342 of 2024. The Bombay High Court order dated December 6, 2024 confirms that the petitions were tagged together and that notice was issued, returnable on February 12, 2025. It does not say that the FIR was quashed or that the allegations were proven.
A petition challenging an FIR, a notice to a respondent and a scheduled return date are procedural steps, not a final merits judgment. The sources cited here do not establish a later final outcome in the petitions or a final criminal-court finding. Later orders can be checked through the Bombay High Court case-status portal and its judgment and order search.
