But sculptor Alan Cottrill said the group still owed him $90,000 and had used his copyrighted image in token promotion without securing the relevant rights. Those are claims reported by Futurism—not findings by a court. Its February 5, 2026 account said the statue was in Ohio, despite a proposed placement at Trump National Doral Miami.
Who commissioned the statue, and what was it for?
Futurism reported on February 5, 2026, that a group of crypto promoters commissioned the 15-foot sculpture for $300,000. The group tied the statue to promotion of the $PATRIOT token, a memecoin. The report names Ashley Sansalone in connection with the promotion and the exchange with Cottrill, but does not establish that he alone commissioned or bought the statue.
The proposed installation site was Trump National Doral Miami. Futurism’s account said the sculpture was in Ohio when it published its story. The available reporting does not establish whether that location has changed since then.
Why was the statue reportedly held in Ohio?
Cottrill, the sculptor, said the promoters still owed him $90,000 of the reported commission price. Futurism reproduced his statement, attributed to New York Times reporting: “That statue will not leave my foundry until everything they owe me is paid.” That describes Cottrill’s stated position; the reporting does not establish a court order or a judicial determination of the balance.

The story does not verify whether the claimed balance was later paid, whether the statue subsequently left the foundry, or where it is now. The $90,000 is Cottrill’s reported claim, not an independently confirmed payment record.
What is the copyright dispute about?
Cottrill also challenged the promoters’ use of an image of his sculpture in marketing for $PATRIOT. Futurism quoted a message attributed to him: “You are using my copyrighted image in marketing your token!” It reported that Sansalone replied, “Yes lol as we planned to from day 1”. Futurism said the messages were viewed by the New York Times; the messages were not independently examined for this account.

The exchange illustrates a dispute over image rights, but it does not settle who owned or licensed the relevant rights, or whether the use infringed copyright. The reporting does not describe a court ruling on the issue.
How did the statue relate to $PATRIOT’s value?
The sculpture was part of the token’s promotion, not an investment asset whose value or ownership is established by this reporting. Futurism gave two historical market-cap snapshots: $77.7 million around January 2025 and $2.8 million at the time of its February 2026 article. The report does not state the valuation methodology. Neither figure is a current market quote, and market capitalization is not the same as cash held by token holders or a guaranteed amount that could be realized by selling.
