Microsoft 365 E7 is a generally available enterprise plan that bundles Microsoft 365 E5 with Microsoft 365 Copilot, Agent 365, Microsoft Entra Suite, and additional security and governance capabilities. It launched on May 1, 2026. Microsoft’s published U.S. annual-commitment price is $99 per user per month with Teams or $90.45 without Teams. Whether that bundle is worth the higher price depends mainly on how broadly your organization plans to use Copilot and govern AI agents.

What is Microsoft 365 E7?

Microsoft 365 E7 is a premium enterprise subscription, not simply a higher-capacity version of E5. Microsoft calls it the “Frontier Suite” and describes its goal as supporting a “human-led, agent-operated enterprise.” In practical terms, the plan brings productivity apps, collaboration, identity, security, compliance, AI assistance, and agent governance together in one bundle. Microsoft’s announcement and its product overview emphasize the combination of Copilot and controls for deploying agents.

The distinguishing idea is to extend enterprise controls beyond employees to AI agents. E7 includes Microsoft Agent 365, which Microsoft describes as a control plane for observing, securing, and governing Microsoft and third-party agents. That does not mean it builds every agent or guarantees coverage for every external tool: custom agent development may involve Copilot Studio, Power Platform, Microsoft Graph, Azure, or third-party services, each with its own requirements.

When did E7 launch?

Microsoft announced E7 on March 9, 2026, and it became generally available for purchase on May 1, 2026. April 1 was an earlier milestone for certain partner enablement and upsell programs, not the general commercial launch. The dates are reflected in Microsoft’s March announcement and May availability notice.

How much does Microsoft 365 E7 cost?

Microsoft’s published U.S. list prices, observed August 18, 2026, are shown below. Both are annual-commitment prices paid yearly; Microsoft directs buyers to contact sales. They are not guaranteed quotes: country, currency, sales channel, contract, term, and negotiated discounts can change what an organization pays.

Plan Published U.S. price Billing basis
Microsoft 365 E7 with Teams $99 per user per month Annual commitment; paid yearly
Microsoft 365 E7 without Teams $90.45 per user per month Annual commitment; paid yearly

At list price, 100 users on E7 with Teams would cost $118,800 for a year; 100 users on E7 without Teams would cost $108,540. These are arithmetic illustrations based on the displayed U.S. prices, before taxes, negotiated discounts, separate services, or metered usage. See the E7 product and pricing page for current purchasing details.

What does E7 include?

Productivity apps and collaboration

The E7 page lists Microsoft 365 apps including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, and Outlook, with desktop, web, and mobile access subject to regional availability. The broader suite includes Exchange email and calendars, OneDrive, SharePoint, and collaboration tools such as Planner, To Do, Lists, Forms, Loop, Sway, Clipchamp, Visio for the web, and Power BI Pro.

Teams is included in the $99 SKU, alongside Teams Phone capabilities. In the $90.45 no-Teams SKU, Teams must be obtained separately if your organization needs it. Microsoft notes that some Teams-integrated capabilities require Teams licensing, so confirm the exact licenses needed for intended workflows before choosing the lower-priced option.

Microsoft 365 Copilot

E7 includes Microsoft 365 Copilot, which connects AI experiences to work content and context and appears in experiences such as Word, PowerPoint, and Teams. Microsoft also describes agentic capabilities being incorporated into Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Copilot Chat. Availability can vary by country, region, and language; the plan price alone should not be read as a promise that every feature is available in every market.

Agent 365 and agent governance

Agent 365 is the management layer for organizations seeking visibility and controls over agents. Microsoft says it is designed to extend familiar identity, security, administration, and compliance processes to Microsoft and third-party agents. Its inclusion can matter when agents move beyond isolated experiments and need lifecycle oversight, access controls, and auditability. It is not equivalent to unlimited agent creation or usage.

Identity, security, devices, and compliance

E7 includes Microsoft Entra Suite and Entra ID P2 capabilities, plus Microsoft Defender, Intune, Windows Enterprise management, and Microsoft Purview capabilities. Microsoft positions the bundle as providing advanced protections and governance for users and agents. However, its E7 page also lists separate products and add-ons—including Intune Suite, Teams Premium, Windows 365 Enterprise, and Microsoft Teams Enterprise—so do not assume every feature shown on the page is included in the base subscription.

Storage and usage limits

Microsoft lists OneDrive storage from 1 TB to 5+ TB per user depending on tenant eligibility and configuration. It describes an initial quota of up to 5 TB; additional storage depends on eligibility and tenant requirements, so 5 TB or more is not an automatic allocation to every user. Agent workloads may also require an Azure subscription and metered services, depending on market, license, and workload. For feature and entitlement details, consult the E7 plan page and the Microsoft 365 plans and pricing page.

How does E7 compare with E5?

Microsoft’s displayed U.S. annual prices put E5 with Teams at $60 per user per month and E5 without Teams at $51.45. E7 costs $39 more per month per user than E5 with Teams, or $39 more than E5 without Teams. E7’s central additions are Copilot, Agent 365, and Entra Suite, alongside the broader advanced capabilities Microsoft associates with the bundle. E5 may remain sufficient for organizations that want Microsoft’s enterprise productivity and security capabilities but are not ready to deploy Copilot and agents widely.

Teams inclusion matters in either tier: compare like with like, and verify whether the workflows you need depend on separate Teams licensing. The prices are published U.S. list prices on an annual commitment, not universal contract rates. Microsoft’s plan comparison provides the displayed E5 and related prices.

Is E7 cheaper than buying E5, Copilot, and Agent 365 separately?

Using Microsoft’s displayed U.S. annual prices for versions with Teams, the basic arithmetic is:

License combination Published price per user/month
E5 with Teams $60
Microsoft 365 Copilot add-on $30
Agent 365 standalone $15
E5 + Copilot + Agent 365 $105
E7 with Teams $99

On that narrow list-price comparison, E7 is $6 per user per month less than E5 plus Copilot and Agent 365. Microsoft also positions E7 as including Entra Suite and additional bundled capabilities, so this is not a complete like-for-like total-cost analysis. Contract discounts, eligibility, Teams licensing, and any Azure consumption can change the result. The add-on prices and relevant conditions are on Microsoft’s pricing page; Microsoft’s bundle overview explains its rationale for E7.

Who is E7 a good fit for?

  • Microsoft-centric enterprises moving from AI pilots to broad deployment: The bundle is easier to justify when many employees need Copilot and the organization expects substantial agent use.
  • Organizations that require governance before scaling AI: Identity, security, compliance, and agent oversight can be more important than adding AI features alone, especially in regulated environments.
  • Businesses consolidating Microsoft licenses: A single bundle may simplify procurement when the organization would otherwise license several included capabilities separately.
  • Enterprises with an established governance program: E7 can provide tools, but the organization still needs sound identity practices, data controls, policies, monitoring, and ownership for agents.

When might E5 or a mixed-license model make more sense?

  • Only a small group needs Copilot: Keeping E5 for most employees and licensing Copilot for a defined population may avoid paying for a broad bundle that few people use.
  • Agent use is limited or experimental: If the organization has no substantial agent program, the included management capabilities may not justify moving every user to E7.
  • Existing E5 capabilities meet current needs: Organizations that do not need the E7 additions can avoid a higher per-user commitment.
  • The core technology stack is not Microsoft-based: Businesses relying primarily on other productivity, identity, security, or collaboration platforms may find less value in consolidating around Microsoft’s controls.
  • AI readiness work is unfinished: Poor data classification, excessive permissions, unclear retention rules, or missing acceptable-use policies are organizational problems that a license does not fix.

A mixed model—E5 for the wider workforce and E7 for AI-heavy teams or administrators—may be more economical, subject to Microsoft’s licensing rules and the organization’s agreement. Targeted E5 plus Copilot, or E5 plus Agent 365 for selected users, are alternatives to pricing every employee into E7.

Costs and licensing details to check before buying

  • Contract and region: The quoted figures are published U.S. list prices as of August 18, 2026, on an annual commitment paid yearly. Local prices, taxes, discounts, and enterprise agreements may differ.
  • Teams dependency: Confirm whether the selected SKU includes Teams and whether any desired calling or integrated capabilities need separate licensing.
  • Agent consumption: Agent 365 is a governance and management entitlement, not a guarantee that all agent building or workload consumption is included. Azure and other metered services can add charges.
  • Separate products: Check which named capabilities are part of E7 and which appear as separately purchasable add-ons or services.
  • Implementation work: Integration, security review, data cleanup, training, and ongoing governance can add costs beyond the subscription price.
  • Availability: Copilot and mobile-app capabilities may vary by market, region, and language; verify availability for your users before contracting.

Is Microsoft 365 E7 worth it?

E7 is most compelling for organizations already committed to Microsoft 365 that plan broad Copilot adoption and need a coordinated way to govern AI agents. At the published U.S. annual list prices, its bundle is also less expensive than the simple E5-plus-Copilot-plus-Agent-365 sum, before contract differences and usage costs. For businesses that need only conventional productivity and security, or have a small Copilot pilot, E5 with targeted add-ons may be the more economical choice.

Before choosing, estimate how many users need Copilot, which users administer or oversee agents, whether Teams is required, and what Azure or implementation costs the intended workloads may incur. E7 supplies a consolidated licensing package; it does not by itself make an organization’s data, permissions, or AI governance ready for production.
