Ingram Micro announced that it would stop doing business with Broadcom in early January 2025, while retaining limited engagement with VMware in selected regions. The change followed unsuccessful negotiations and Broadcom’s decision to streamline its distributor network. For resellers, Arrow is one reported alternative route, but availability and authorization must be confirmed for each region and product.

What changed and when?

In December 2024, Ingram Micro said that, starting in early January 2025, it would no longer do business with Broadcom. It also said its VMware engagement would be limited to selected regions. Ingram characterized neither relationship as material to its business. CRN reported Ingram Micro’s announcement.

Ingram said it could not reach an agreement with Broadcom that would support customer outcomes while providing an appropriate return to shareholders. Broadcom, in turn, said its changing priorities and desire for a more streamlined, focused distribution network drove the change. Broadcom also said it remained committed to customers and partners and was working toward a seamless transition and continued support across geographies. Both companies’ explanations were reported by CRN in December 2024.

Why did Ingram Micro stop selling Broadcom?

The companies described a breakdown in negotiations alongside a change in Broadcom’s distribution strategy. Ingram’s explanation centered on an agreement that it said would not deliver the right outcomes for customers and shareholders; Broadcom’s focused on streamlining its distributor network.

The timing followed Broadcom’s acquisition of VMware in November 2023. Ingram Micro’s 2024 annual report, filed with the SEC in 2025, says the longstanding VMware distribution relationship was discontinued effective early 2025. The filing warns that the change could negatively affect net sales and relationships with resellers and other customers who had historically bought VMware solutions through Ingram. Ingram Micro’s 2024 annual report.

Where can resellers buy VMware licenses now?

CRN quoted one reseller saying it was switching its Broadcom business from Ingram Micro to Arrow, while expecting the transition to be difficult. That is one reseller’s experience—not evidence that Arrow is authorized for every product or available in every geography. CRN’s report includes the reseller’s account.

Before choosing a route, resellers should verify the details with Broadcom or the prospective distributor:

  • Whether the distributor is authorized in the relevant country or territory.
  • Whether it can supply the specific VMware product, subscription, renewal, or provisioning service needed.
  • Who owns technical support and how open cases or existing customer entitlements will be handled.
  • How partner margins, ordering procedures, and transition timing compare with the current arrangement.

Does Ingram Micro still sell VMware?

Ingram announced limited VMware engagement in selected regions, not a universal end to all VMware activity. Its annual report confirms the longstanding distribution relationship was discontinued, but the announcement does not establish what is currently available in each regional catalog. Resellers should check directly with Ingram Micro for their location, product, and transaction type rather than assume that VMware is either available everywhere or unavailable everywhere.

What does “not material” mean for Ingram Micro?

Ingram said its Broadcom and VMware relationships were not material to its business. That is a qualitative statement; the cited sources do not provide a revenue percentage or dollar figure. It does not mean the change is immaterial to a reseller or customer that relied on Ingram for procurement, renewals, or support.
