May corn futures closed at $4.57¾ per bushel on Wednesday, April 2, 2025, down 4 cents, according to Successful Farming. The report identified uncertainty ahead of planned White House tariff announcements as the session’s main focus; that is reported market context, not proof that tariffs alone caused the decline.
What did corn close at on April 2, 2025?
The May 2025 corn contract ended the session at $4.57¾ per bushel, 4 cents lower, Successful Farming reported. The contract month and date matter: this is a historical settlement figure, not a current corn quote. The publication is the source for the figure; the underlying exchange settlement was not independently verified here.
What market context did the report give?
The report said traders were focused on uncertainty ahead of the White House’s tariff announcements planned for that afternoon. It quoted Karl Setzer, partner at Consus Ag Consulting: “The main focus of today’s trade was shoring up any loose ends in the markets ahead of this afternoon’s tariff announcements from the White House.”
Setzer’s remarks describe the uncertainty discussed in the report, including questions about tariff rates, affected trading partners, and possible responses. They do not establish tariffs as the sole cause of corn’s 4-cent decline.

Was the reported Philippine purchase a corn sale?
No. Successful Farming reported that USDA announced a Philippine purchase of 135,000 metric tons of soybean cake and meal for the 2024/2025 marketing year. Those are soybean products, not corn. The figure is as reported in the April 2 article; the underlying USDA announcement was not independently verified here.
