At that point, the service offered three plans: Standard with ads for $7.99 per month, Standard for $17.99, and Premium for $24.99. Netflix later raised those prices again in March 2026, so the 2025 figures are historical rather than the current rates.
This guide separates the prices Netflix charged during 2025 from the rates listed on Netflix’s current U.S. pricing page, then explains taxes, extra members, plan changes, billing dates, and cancellation.
Netflix prices in the U.S. during 2025
Netflix’s January 2025 increase raised all three available U.S. plans. The Basic plan was no longer offered to new U.S. subscribers.
| Plan | 2025 monthly price | Video quality | Simultaneous streams | Downloads |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Standard with ads | $7.99 | 1080p/Full HD | 2 | 2 supported devices |
| Standard | $17.99 | 1080p/Full HD | 2 | 2 supported devices |
| Premium | $24.99 | 4K Ultra HD and HDR | 4 | 6 supported devices |
The 2025 increase changed the monthly prices as follows:

What each 2025 plan included
Standard with ads — $7.99 per month
This was Netflix’s lowest-priced plan in 2025. It included advertising, 1080p video, two simultaneous streams, and downloads on two supported devices. Most titles and all Netflix games were available.
It was not identical to ad-free Standard. A small number of movies and shows could be unavailable because Netflix did not have the necessary advertising rights. An unavailable title showed a lock icon. Some older devices also could not use the ad-supported experience if their Netflix software could not be updated.
Standard — $17.99 per month
Standard removed ads while retaining 1080p video, two simultaneous streams, and downloads on two supported devices. It also allowed the account holder to add one extra member.

Premium — $24.99 per month
Premium was the plan for households with compatible 4K televisions or devices, or for people who needed four simultaneous streams. It included 4K Ultra HD, HDR, Netflix spatial audio, four simultaneous streams, and downloads on six supported devices.

Netflix prices now compared with 2025
Netflix raised all three U.S. plan prices again in March 2026. The current U.S. rates listed by Netflix are:
| Plan | 2025 price | Current listed price | Change from 2025 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Standard with ads | $7.99 | $8.99 | +$1.00 |
| Standard | $17.99 | $19.99 | +$2.00 |
| Premium | $24.99 | $26.99 | +$2.00 |
For a new subscription, use the current Netflix price shown at checkout rather than the 2025 figures. The 2025 rates remain useful when checking an old bill, comparing a past subscription decision, or interpreting an article published before the March 2026 increase.

In 2025, an extra member cost $6.99 per month with ads or $8.99 without ads. The primary account holder paid for the slot, while the extra member received a separate account and password.
| Primary plan | Maximum extra members in 2025 | Extra-member price |
|---|---|---|
| Standard with ads | Not available | — |
| Standard | 1 | $6.99 with ads or $8.99 without ads |
| Premium | Up to 2 | $6.99 with ads or $8.99 without ads |
The current listed extra-member prices are $7.99 per month with ads or $9.99 without ads. Netflix accounts are intended for people who live together in one household. Someone outside the household generally needs an eligible extra-member slot rather than ordinary password sharing.

Which Netflix plan is the cheapest?
Standard with ads is the cheapest plan. At its 2025 price of $7.99 per month, the annual pre-tax cost was $95.88. At the current listed price of $8.99, the annual pre-tax cost is $107.88.
The cheapest plan may not be the cheapest practical choice if you regularly watch titles blocked by licensing restrictions, dislike commercial interruptions, or need to download content for travel. Standard cost $10 more per month than Standard with ads in 2025, or $120 more per year before tax.
How much did Netflix cost per year in 2025?
| Plan | Monthly price in 2025 | 12-month pre-tax cost |
|---|---|---|
| Standard with ads | $7.99 | $95.88 |
| Standard | $17.99 | $215.88 |
| Premium | $24.99 | $299.88 |
These totals assume the same plan for all 12 months and exclude sales tax. They also exclude extra members, which could add $83.88 per year for an ad-supported extra member or $107.88 for an ad-free extra member in 2025.
How to check your actual Netflix charge
- Sign in to Netflix in a web browser.
- Open the Account page.
- Under Membership, review your plan and billing information.
- Open Payment History to see the actual charge, taxes, and previous billing entries.
Your account may not match the standard price table if you subscribe through a mobile carrier, cable provider, package, or another payment partner. Bundled subscriptions can have different prices, billing dates, eligibility rules, and procedures for changing plans.
When Netflix charges your card
Netflix normally bills once per month on the date the account was created. If that date does not exist in a particular month—for example, the 31st—Netflix charges on the last day of that month. Time-zone differences can make a transaction appear one day earlier than expected.

- Compact without compromises: Our sleek design won’t block neighboring HDMI ports, so you can switch from streaming to gaming with ease. Plus, it’s designed to stay hidden behind your TV, keeping wires neatly out of sight
An upgrade or extra-member purchase can produce two charges in one month. Netflix may apply a prorated charge and reset the billing date, so check Payment History before treating the second transaction as an unauthorized duplicate.
How to change your Netflix plan
- Open Netflix’s Change Plan page in a browser.
- Choose the plan you want.
- Select Continue or Update.
- Select Confirm Change or Confirm.
An upgrade takes effect immediately. Netflix may issue a prorated charge or change the billing date. A downgrade takes effect on the next billing date, and the higher-tier features remain available until then.
The change option may not appear if a Kids profile is active, the account is on hold or paused, or the subscription is billed through a third-party package.

- Open Netflix’s Manage your membership page.
- Select Cancel.
- Under the cancellation section, select Finish Cancellation.
Signing out, deleting the Netflix app, or removing it from a television or phone does not cancel the membership. If the cancellation controls are missing, cancel through the payment partner shown under Membership.
Important limitations to understand
- Streams are not the same as signed-in devices. Netflix does not set a simple total-device sign-in limit. Your plan limits how many supported devices can stream at the same time.
- Downloads have device limits. In 2025, Standard with ads and Standard allowed downloads on two supported devices; Premium allowed downloads on six.
- Ads-plan availability varies by title. Look for the lock icon if a movie or show is unavailable on Standard with ads.
- Packages can override ordinary billing. A carrier or cable bundle may not follow Netflix’s direct-subscription price or cancellation flow.
