How Blind Shows Engineer Pay at Major Tech Companies

Blind lets users compare reported pay by employer and job function, with filters and fields for role, location, experience, level, and compensation components. Its figures are community-submitted data, not an independently audited or representative salary survey, so use them as a reference point—not a guaranteed offer or a definitive ranking of tech companies.

What Blind’s salary data includes

Blind’s salary comparison tool offers company and job-function selectors, including Amazon, Apple, Facebook, Google, LinkedIn, Microsoft, Oracle, Salesforce, Uber, and Yahoo. Its comparison form includes base salary, optional bonus, RSUs, signing bonus, job title, years of experience, employment type, location, and optional level. Blind describes the information as real salary from verified employees and as real-time; those are the platform’s descriptions of its service.

Blind’s software-engineering salary pages describe their figures as total compensation compiled from anonymous and verified data from current and former employees. A page may show a median and percentiles, alongside recent submissions that distinguish base pay, yearly equity, and bonus. Blind states: “Blind compiles anonymous and verified salary data from both present and past employees.”

A dated example: software-engineer pay in St. Louis

Blind’s St. Louis software-engineering page, last updated September 25, 2025, reported median total compensation of US$131,000. It displayed US$104,833 at the 25th percentile, US$160,000 at the 70th percentile, and US$218,130 at the 90th percentile. These are figures shown on that location-specific page, not a nationwide estimate or a comparison among the named companies. The page’s update date also means the figures should not be described as current compensation in October 2026.

How to make a useful comparison

  1. Match the work. Select the same job function or a closely matching title. “Engineer” can cover substantially different roles.
  2. Match location and level. Compare employees in the same location and at similar levels; use experience and employment type as additional context where available.
  3. Separate base pay from total compensation. Blind lists base salary, bonus, RSUs, and signing bonus as distinct inputs. A total that includes equity or a one-time signing bonus is not interchangeable with annual base salary.
  4. Check the page’s date. Salary pages can have different update dates. Read the date on the specific employer, role, and location page before relying on its figures.
  5. Use the result as a discussion benchmark, not a promise. Consider the displayed distribution and your own offer details rather than treating a median or percentile as what a particular company will pay you.

How accurate are Blind salary reports?

The cited pages establish Blind’s own description of its data source, but they do not disclose the sample size behind a displayed distribution, detailed validation rules for individual entries, or the method used to handle outliers. They also do not explain how equity is valued or annualized in total-compensation figures. Those omissions make it impossible to assess representativeness or independently verify the displayed totals from these pages alone.

Accordingly, Blind data can help you explore reported compensation and frame questions, but it should not be treated as a statistically representative labor-market survey or a precise forecast of an individual offer. No independent study establishing the accuracy of Blind’s salary figures is cited here.
