Iowa Capital Dispatch reported that the facility began operating in 2024; in 2025, the company described it as fully operational. Reporting says Renewablade grinds retired blades and uses the material in concrete products, including retaining-wall blocks. The available reporting does not establish the facility’s current throughput, capacity, permits or production status.
Who is grinding wind turbine blades near Earlham?
Renewablade is associated with the Earlham project. The original Iowa Capital Dispatch article, published November 22, 2021, was titled “Company plans to grind wind turbine blades near Earlham.” Its search-result summary described a Bondurant company planning to use large wood chippers and noted pushback from anti-turbine residents in Madison County. The original article could not be directly retrieved, so the summary does not establish a complete account of the proposal or residents’ concerns. Iowa Capital Dispatch, November 22, 2021.
What happens to the retired blades?
Reporting describes Renewablade grinding full blades into smaller pieces and using the resulting material in concrete products. In August 2022, Iowa Capital Dispatch reported that the company was preparing to make retaining-wall blocks after testing, but had not yet obtained a large batch of blades from a repowering project. Iowa Capital Dispatch, August 2022.
In June 2024, Iowa Capital Dispatch reported that the Earlham recycling facility had begun operating that year and that ground blade material was used to make concrete blocks. A September 2025 trade report described Renewablade as producing retaining-wall blocks, highway barriers and agricultural bunkers. Those product and operating claims are attributed to the reporting and company; the cited coverage does not supply independently verified material-composition or product-performance data. Iowa Capital Dispatch, June 14, 2024; Resource Recycling, September 2025.

What is known about the facility’s timeline?

| November 22, 2021 | Iowa Capital Dispatch announced the plan to grind blades near Earlham and summarized local pushback. The original article text was not directly available. Iowa Capital Dispatch. |
| August 2022 | Renewablade was reported to have ground blades and to be preparing retaining-wall blocks after testing; it had not yet obtained a large batch from a repowering project. Iowa Capital Dispatch. |
| June 14, 2024 | Iowa Capital Dispatch reported that the Earlham facility began operating that year and that ground blades were used in concrete blocks. Iowa Capital Dispatch. |
| September 2025 | The company was described as fully operational, with reported production of several concrete products and possible expansion. These are company-reported claims, not audited capacity figures. Resource Recycling. |
What remains unverified?
The cited reporting does not establish Renewablade’s current production status, annual blade throughput, facility capacity, current permits or compliance record. Nor does it provide an independently verified lifecycle assessment, material composition or performance specifications for the concrete products. The 2025 coverage discussed possible expansion, but the available figures do not support a comparison or ranking of recycling companies.
Residents’ objections are also only partly represented in the accessible record: the 2021 search-result summary characterized the reaction as scorn and pushback from anti-turbine residents, but does not provide enough detail to reliably enumerate their concerns.

A separate Iowa blade-disposal case
Global Fiberglass Solutions (GFS) is a different company and its case is not evidence of wrongdoing by Renewablade. In a June 30, 2026 release, the Iowa Attorney General said about 1,300 blades were left in stockpiles at Ellsworth, Newton and Atlantic after GFS was hired to cut up, transport and recycle them; the release said cleanup was completed by 2024. Attorney General Brenna Bird characterized the conduct this way: “GFS violated Iowa’s solid waste laws. They were hired to dispose of used wind turbine blades; instead, they dumped and abandoned 1,300 of them in stockpiles across the state.” This is the state’s description of the separate GFS matter. Iowa Attorney General, June 30, 2026.
Quick Recap
Best Value
- Realistic Wind Turbine Model: This wind turbine model toy mimics a real wind turbine to scale, and the most interesting thing is that its blades can also turn.
- 21.65inch Large Size Model: Compared to other ordinary wind turbine models, this wind turbine model has a large size, which can be installed up to 55cm/ 21.65inch.
- Wind-up Wind Turbine: This windmill toy adopts wind-up design that enables the blades turn automatically after it gets winded up. To wind it up, we just need to turn its blades clockwise for several rounds.
