Who was sued in the recent case?
The federal court order is in AndDone, LLC v. Gaines, and identifies the defendant as Shante Gaines. It does not identify Chip or Joanna Gaines as parties. The shared surname does not establish that the defendant is related to the celebrity couple.
The case was brought by AndDone, a private company, rather than a government agency. It involved a Sub-Merchant Agreement for payment-processing services. According to the order’s account of the pleaded facts, $88,506 moved through the payment portal was reported as unauthorized and charged back to AndDone after Gaines’s account lacked funds. What did the court decide?
The court granted AndDone default judgment against Shante Gaines on its primary breach-of-contract claim. The order says she did not provide complete discovery responses or appear for her deposition despite three court orders. The court found the failure willful and concluded AndDone had been prejudiced.

The court awarded AndDone $88,506 in chargebacks and $6,200 in attorney fees under Rule 37. This was a civil contract judgment, not a criminal finding. The court denied as moot default-judgment requests on alternative claims against Gaines and against Reset Financial Group, LLC; it said the record was insufficient to find that Reset Financial Group was a party to the agreement.

The EPA description above comes from a secondary source; the underlying agency settlement record was not reviewed. It should not be presented as evidence that Chip and Joanna Gaines were defendants in the recent payment-processing lawsuit.

Was the recent lawsuit about refusing to comply with the government?
No. The order describes discovery noncompliance in a private company’s civil contract case. The discovery orders were issued by the court; that does not make the case a government lawsuit. The separate EPA matter is an older, separately reported settlement involving the couple.
