Coles returned to Fremantle’s Woolstores site on 30 April 2025, after the former store closed in October 2021 for redevelopment. PerthNow reported the reopening on 1 May 2025, describing the return as coming after a four-year hiatus; the interval is roughly four years, not exactly four years. The new store is listed at 24 Cantonment St, Fremantle WA 6160.
Why the former Coles closed
The original Woolstores Coles was scheduled to close at 5pm on 17 October 2021. PerthNow reported that demolition and redevelopment of the site made the closure necessary. At the time, a Coles spokesperson said the retailer intended to open a new store as part of the refreshed development.
PerthNow later reported in January 2023 that Fremantle council had backed a three-storey first-stage proposal featuring Coles, childcare, a liquor store and offices. The project proceeded in stages, and the supermarket did not reopen until April 2025.

Coles’ store listing gives the supermarket’s address as 24 Cantonment St, Fremantle WA 6160. The listing gives these hours:

Store hours can change, so check Coles’ Fremantle store listing before travelling. Coles also lists carry-to-car service and speciality trolleys, with availability subject to the retailer’s caveat.
How the store fits into Woolstores
The Woolstores project describes a three-level mixed-use redevelopment at 28 Cantonment Street, with a supermarket and specialty retail at ground level, offices and childcare above, and car parking accessed from Elder Place. That is the development’s address; Coles’ listing separately gives the supermarket address as 24 Cantonment St. The two addresses should not be treated as interchangeable.
At opening, local Fremantle blogger Roel Loopers described the new supermarket as more spacious than its predecessor and reported a newsagency, Sushi Hari, Liquorland, Akidamy early learning school and paid parking at the development. These are opening-day observations, not a current tenant directory.

In its 1 May 2025 reopening report, PerthNow put IGA Fremantle about 300 metres away, IGA South Fremantle 3.8 kilometres away and Woolworths 3.7 kilometres away. Those are the newspaper’s reported distances at that time, not a current verified comparison of routes, hours or product ranges.
