In 2011, a 17-year-old in China had his right kidney removed in an illegal transplant operation; authorities later reported that he suffered kidney insufficiency and serious injury. The case is historical: the available reports do not verify that he is hospitalized now or establish his current health.
What happened in the case?
China’s Supreme People’s Procuratorate reported that the operation took place in Chenzhou, Hunan, on April 28, 2011. Its 2012 account identifies the teenager by the surname Wang and says his right kidney was removed. The same account reported kidney insufficiency, serious injury, and a level-three disability assessment. The procuratorate’s account is the strongest source here for the later prosecution details.
The teenager was reported to have wanted money to buy an iPad 2 and an Apple phone. CBS News, relaying an account from Shanghai Daily, quoted him as saying, “I wanted to buy an iPad 2 but could not afford it.” CBS’s 2011 report provides that attributed statement; the devices were the reported motive, not a recommendation or the central financial lesson of the case.
Is he hospitalized now?
The cited reports do not establish a current hospitalization or describe his present medical condition. They document the operation and the injuries reported in the years immediately afterward. The “now hospitalized” wording in the title should therefore not be treated as a verified current update.

What happened legally and financially?
In April 2012, prosecutors charged five defendants with intentional injury, according to the procuratorate. A charge is not a final court judgment, and the cited account does not establish the ultimate criminal sentences.
China News Service reported in November 2012 that the family sought 1.47 million yuan in compensation and had appealed. That figure is a reported claim, not a verified award: the cited report does not establish the final compensation outcome. China News Service’s report describes the claim and appeal.

Why do some reports use a different name?
Some English-language coverage from 2011 called the teenager “Zheng” or “Xiao Zheng.” The later official prosecution account identifies him as Wang. To avoid implying certainty about a romanized full name, it is clearest to refer to him as Wang, as attributed to the official account, or simply as the teenager.
