Nintendo of America raised U.S. prices for the original Nintendo Switch family and select accessories effective August 3, 2025, citing “market conditions.” The announcement named the standard Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch OLED Model, and Nintendo Switch Lite; it did not say every accessory was affected. Nintendo’s notice did not provide revised model-by-model U.S. MSRPs.

Which Nintendo Switch models went up in price?

Nintendo of America’s August 1, 2025 pricing notice covered these original Switch systems in the United States:

  • Nintendo Switch
  • Nintendo Switch OLED Model
  • Nintendo Switch Lite

The notice also covered select Nintendo Switch accessories, but did not identify every accessory or publish a complete list in the retrieved announcement. The change was specific to Nintendo of America’s U.S. pricing notice; it should not be taken as a price change in every country.

When did the price increase take effect?

The new U.S. pricing took effect August 3, 2025. Nintendo announced the change two days earlier, on August 1, 2025.

Why did Nintendo raise the original Switch price?

Nintendo’s stated explanation was “based on market conditions.” The announcement did not attribute the specific increase to one cost or policy.

In a May 2025 investor Q&A, Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa described the broader factors the company considers when setting hardware prices by region: manufacturing costs, consumers’ perception of price, exchange-rate differences compared with the Switch launch, and local market conditions. He said, “When determining hardware prices, we consider not only the manufacturing cost, but also various factors such as consumers’ impression of the price, the vast differences in exchange rates compared to the Nintendo Switch launch, and the market conditions in each region.”

  • 6.2” LCD screen
  • Three play modes: TV, tabletop, and handheld
  • Local co-op, online, and local wireless multiplayer
  • Detachable Joy-Con controllers
  • Nintendo Switch is the home of Mario & friends

Furukawa also said Nintendo’s general policy is to recognize tariffs as a cost and incorporate them into prices. That policy statement does not establish that tariffs alone caused the August 2025 original Switch increase. His comments appear in Nintendo’s May 2025 financial results briefing.

What were the new U.S. prices?

Nintendo’s retrieved pricing notice identifies the affected products and effective date, but does not provide revised U.S. MSRPs for each model. An exact new price for the standard, OLED, or Lite model therefore cannot be confirmed from that notice. Retailer prices may also differ from manufacturer suggested prices, so check a current listing if you are deciding what to pay.

Did the Nintendo Switch 2 price also change?

That was a separate change. In a notice dated May 7, 2026, Nintendo of America announced that the U.S. Switch 2 system MSRP would rise from $449.99 to $499.99 effective September 1, 2026. The notice said, “Pricing for the Nintendo Switch system is not changing.” This is a dated statement about the original Switch system, not a current price list for each original model.
