What did COMAC’s 50-aircraft figure mean?
Reuters reported on January 20, 2025, that COMAC aimed to raise annual C919 production capacity to 50 aircraft. In the same report, Reuters attributed a separate aim of manufacturing 30 C919s that year to COMAC deputy general manager Shen Bo. These are different measures: capacity describes intended production capability, while the 30 figure was a manufacturing aim. Neither figure confirms how many aircraft were completed or delivered. What are the more recent production and delivery figures?
In a January 26, 2026 report, the South China Morning Post said COMAC aimed to deliver 28 or more C919s in 2026. It also reported that COMAC delivered 15 in 2025, against an initial plan for 75. The 28-or-more figure is a reported delivery aim, not an achieved result; deliveries should not be treated as interchangeable with production capacity or aircraft manufactured. Why did deliveries fall short of the 2025 plan?
The 15 deliveries reported for 2025 were well below the initial plan of 75, but the available reporting does not establish one cause. The Associated Press reported in October 2025 that trade friction and export licensing affected schedules, including a pause in U.S. export licenses for LEAP-1C engines around May and a resumption in July. AP also described possible operational factors: a cautious ramp-up that prioritizes quality and safety. Those are reported contributing factors, not proof that any one issue alone explains the gap.

The U.S.-China Economic and Security Review Commission reported in November 2025 that the C919 had not pursued FAA certification. It also reported that the European Union Aviation Safety Agency had said certification would not be possible before 2028 at the earliest. Is there a confirmed 2026 target of 50 C919s?
No current official 2026 production target of 50 was established in the available reporting. COMAC’s official English news index lists 2026 program developments, including the plateau C919 variant’s first flight, but does not list a 50-aircraft production target.
