Neither Chase nor Bank of America is the better choice for every small business. For basic checking, compare Chase Business Complete with Bank of America Business Advantage Fundamentals based on the fee you can actually avoid, your cash deposits, and how each bank counts transactions. For higher activity, compare Chase Performance with Bank of America Relationship Banking. The U.S. account terms below are published by the banks; confirm current, state-specific disclosures before applying.

Chase account terms are described on its Business Checking page, Business Complete page, and Performance page. Its business account fee disclosure is effective January 4, 2026. Bank of America’s published fee schedule is effective September 23, 2026; its fees page asks customers to select a state for accurate rates and fees.
Which bank is cheaper for your business?
Start with the fee you can realistically waive
Compare the fee after considering the waiver rules, not just the headline monthly charge. Chase Business Complete’s $15 fee is one dollar below Fundamentals’ $16 fee, but Fundamentals has no monthly fee assessed until after its first 12 statement cycles. After that, its waiver options include either maintaining a qualifying combined balance, meeting a qualifying debit-card spending threshold, or enrolling in Preferred Rewards for Business.
A balance waiver may require keeping money in linked accounts that could otherwise fund operations. A debit-purchase waiver is useful only if eligible business card spending fits your normal purchasing pattern. For Chase, check the current fee disclosure to see whether you meet one of its waiver routes; the requirements are not interchangeable with Bank of America’s.

Account for your opening cash
Chase says no minimum deposit is required to open Business Complete. Bank of America lists a $100 opening deposit for both Fundamentals and Relationship Banking. The cited Chase product pages do not state an opening deposit for Performance or Platinum, so confirm that detail with Chase when comparing those tiers.
Transaction limits are not directly equivalent
Both entry-level accounts have a 20-item threshold in specified categories, but the banks define and exclude activity differently. Chase’s Business Complete page describes up to 20 paper and teller transactions. Its fee disclosure says paper checks written and banker-assisted deposits or withdrawals share that allowance, with $0.50 charged for each additional item. The disclosure also identifies electronic deposits and deposited items, ACH and ATM transactions, mobile check deposits, debit purchases, and internal transfers as no-charge categories.

Fundamentals instead groups checks paid, other debits, and deposited items toward its first 20 counted items, after which the fee is $0.45 per item. The schedule excludes certain electronic debits, debit-card transactions, and mobile, ATM, or remote check deposits from that excess-item charge. Use the bank’s exact counting rules rather than assuming that one “transaction” means the same thing at both banks.
For higher activity, Performance includes up to 250 account debits, while Relationship Banking includes 500 counted checks paid, other debits, and deposited items. These figures describe different counting categories, so they are not a like-for-like promise of capacity. If paper checks or teller visits are a regular part of your operations, estimate a statement cycle using the relevant fee disclosure.

Choose the account that fits your operating pattern
Business Complete or Fundamentals for simpler activity
These are the natural starting points if your business has modest cash deposits and can keep counted items within the entry-level allowance. Business Complete stands out if avoiding an opening deposit is important or you qualify for a Chase fee waiver. Fundamentals may suit a business that can meet one of its balance, card-spending, or rewards-membership waiver routes; remember its first-year fee timing and counted-item rules.
Performance or Relationship Banking for more activity
Consider the higher tiers if your business routinely exceeds entry-level item or cash-deposit limits, uses wire services, or values the banks’ relationship features. Performance has a $40 monthly fee with a qualifying linked-balance waiver; Relationship Banking charges $29.95 unless its balance or rewards condition is met. Compare your actual eligible balances, fee-triggering activity, and wire needs before choosing based on the larger included limits alone.

Platinum for complex cash management
Chase Platinum is positioned for established businesses with complex cash-management needs. Its stated allowances are higher than Performance’s, but its $95 monthly fee and larger-balance waiver paths make it a poor default for a business that will not use the extra capacity or services.
Check local access and final terms
Branch and ATM convenience can matter as much as account fees when you regularly deposit cash or need in-person service. Compare locations near your workplace and where you do business. Bank of America specifically directs applicants to choose a state on its business fees page to see accurate rates and fees; confirm the applicable Chase disclosure as well because fees and product terms can change.
Before opening an account, estimate a typical statement cycle: qualifying average balances, eligible card purchases, checks and other counted items, cash deposits, and wire transfers. Then review the current account agreement and fee schedule for your state and the exact product. These are U.S. business deposit checking products, not financial, tax, or legal advice.
