There is no separate Walmart Grocery app for current U.S. shoppers. Walmart folded grocery shopping into its main app, listed in the App Store as Walmart: Shopping & Savings. The app lets you choose store pickup, local delivery, or shipping—but those options have different fees, minimums, availability rules, and payment treatment.
That distinction matters to your budget. A pickup order over $35 is generally free, while standard store delivery is generally $9.95 unless you have Walmart+ and meet its eligibility requirements. Express delivery, small-order charges, bag fees, substitutions, and SNAP payment rules can change the final amount. Use the checkout total—not a general fee claim—as the amount you budget for.
Set up Walmart for grocery shopping
- Install and open the Walmart app, listed as Walmart: Shopping & Savings.
- Sign in to your Walmart account or create one.
- On the home page, select How do you want your items?
- Choose Pickup or Delivery. Delivery checks whether service is available at your address.
Walmart also offers Shipping. Shipping sends products through a delivery carrier and is not the same as grocery pickup or local store delivery. Before adding a large number of items, select the fulfillment method you actually plan to use. Availability and pricing can change when you switch between them.
Search for groceries and control fulfillment
- Enter a product, such as “milk,” “bananas,” or “chicken,” in the Search bar.
- On the results page, use the available fulfillment filters, such as Need it fast or Pickup & shipping.
- Choose the item, check its size and price, and add it to your cart.
- Repeat the process for the rest of your list.
The app’s availability is not a guarantee that the item is sitting on a shelf for you. It depends on the selected store, delivery address, fulfillment method, inventory system, and time slot. An item visible in a Walmart store may be unavailable for pickup or delivery. If local fulfillment is unavailable, Walmart may offer shipping instead.

Choose pickup, delivery, or shipping

For store pickup
- Select a nearby store and an available pickup time slot.
- Wait for the Ready for Pickup notification rather than leaving as soon as you place the order.
- Open the app, email, or text-message link and select I’m on my way.
- Park in a marked Curbside Pickup space.
- Select I’ve parked, then enter the parking-space number and your vehicle color.
- An associate brings the order to your vehicle.
If the app check-in does not work, park in a designated curbside space and call the number on the parking sign or confirmation email.
For delivery
- Select Delivery.
- Enter or confirm the delivery address.
- Choose an available delivery time slot at checkout.
- Review the delivery charge, minimum-order fee, substitutions, and final total before placing the order.
Express Delivery may be available in some locations and can arrive in as little as one hour. It can add a separate fee and may have item or order restrictions.
Review the cart before paying
Open the cart and check all of the following before selecting Checkout all items:
- Product sizes, quantities, and prices
- Pickup store or delivery address
- Pickup or delivery method
- Time slot
- Substitution settings
- Payment method
- Taxes, bags, delivery charges, and any below-minimum-order fee
The cart and checkout screen display the charges that apply to your order. A $35 rule should not be treated as universal: pickup, delivery, shipping, Walmart+, Express, SNAP-linked orders, and local fees can follow different rules.

What Walmart+ does—and does not—cover
Walmart+ generally removes the standard store-delivery fee for eligible orders over $35. It does not mean every grocery delivery is free. A below-$35 Walmart+ delivery can incur a $6.99 minimum-order fee, and Express Delivery can add its own charge. Eligibility, location, item type, and other fees still matter.
For a small order, compare the total cost of delivery with the cost of driving to the store. For a recurring large order, Walmart+ may be worth considering, but calculate it from your actual delivery frequency rather than assuming every order qualifies.
Handle substitutions and out-of-stock items
During checkout, Walmart lets you allow or disallow substitutions, choose a preferred replacement, or tell Walmart not to substitute a particular product. If you do not respond to a proposed substitution within the response period, Walmart may substitute the item.
Substitutions can change both what you receive and what you pay. For SNAP/EBT orders, the rules are more specific:

- Without a backup payment method, a substitute must generally cost the same as or less than the original item.
- If no suitable replacement is available, the original item is canceled and the SNAP/EBT card is refunded.
- With a backup payment method, a higher-priced replacement can charge the difference—and applicable tax—to that backup method.
At pickup, tell the associate that you reject an unwanted substitution so it can be removed. During delivery, the driver cannot take the item back to the store. Instead, use Account → Purchase History to start a return.
Change or cancel an order
- Open the app.
- Go to Account → Purchase History.
- Select the order.
- Use the available options to add or remove items, change quantities, adjust substitutions, reschedule, or cancel.
The order page displays a cutoff banner. Scheduled pickup and delivery orders can generally be updated up to three hours before the selected window, although Express orders are excluded and local rules can differ.
You normally cannot switch a completed order from Pickup to Delivery or from Delivery to Pickup. Cancel the order and place a new one instead. In limited cases, a delayed-delivery text message may offer another option.
Track a Walmart order
For a shipped order, use Account → Purchase History → select the order → Track Shipment. Pickup and delivery orders may show different controls in the order details, such as readiness, arrival, check-in, or delivery status. If you are collecting an order, the most important update is the Ready for Pickup notification.

To repeat an entire previous order:
- Open Purchase History.
- Select the earlier order.
- Select View Delivery Details.
- Select Reorder all.
- Adjust quantities with the – and + buttons.
- Review availability, substitutions, fees, and the checkout total.
To reorder individual items, go to My Items → Reorder, select +Add beside each product, and check out. Recheck sizes and prices: a reordered item may not have the same availability or price as it did previously.

Pay with SNAP EBT
- Open Walmart’s SNAP shopping flow or the account and wallet tools in the app.
- Sign in or create a Walmart account.
- Add the SNAP EBT card to your Walmart wallet.
- Search for eligible food or use the SNAP eligible filter or badge.
- At checkout, follow the instructions for the EBT payment and add another payment method if needed.
SNAP pays for eligible food only. Noneligible products, fees, taxes where applicable, and any remaining balance require another payment method. Walmart states that eligibility comes from federal and state SNAP rules, not from Walmart.
Walmart advertises that linking an SNAP EBT card can waive pickup order minimums. Delivery thresholds and fees can differ, so verify the checkout total before placing the order.

For current U.S. shoppers, Walmart grocery shopping is handled in the main Walmart app, listed as “Walmart: Shopping & Savings.” There is no separate Walmart Grocery app to download for the current U.S. experience.

Can I change Walmart pickup to delivery after ordering?
Normally, no. Use Account → Purchase History to see whether the order can be canceled, then place a new order with Delivery selected. A delayed-delivery message may occasionally provide a special alternative.
What happens if Walmart substitutes an item I do not want?
You can configure substitution preferences at checkout. Reject an unwanted substitute at pickup and ask the associate to remove it. For delivery, the driver cannot take it back; start a return through Account → Purchase History.
The Bottom Line
Use the main Walmart app, select the fulfillment method before shopping, and treat checkout as the final source for fees and availability. Pickup is often the lowest-cost option when you can drive to the store, while delivery trades convenience for a fee or membership conditions. Review substitutions, small-order charges, and payment splits—especially for SNAP/EBT—before selecting Checkout all items.
