Why did the Woolstores store close?
A Coles spokesperson told PerthNow that the entire Woolstores site was being redeveloped and the existing supermarket needed to close during demolition and construction. The spokesperson said the company looked forward to opening a new store as part of the refreshed development, and that team members would be offered opportunities to work at nearby stores.
The redevelopment was planned as a mixed-use project. The City of Fremantle’s application summary describes proposed ground-floor retail and a supermarket alongside offices, childcare, hotel rooms and other facilities. The Woolstores website describes a new three-level building at 28 Cantonment Street, with a supermarket and specialty retail at ground level.
