Accenture said the deal would expand its digital design, innovation, rapid-prototyping and creative-technology capabilities; it did not disclose the transaction terms.
What did Accenture acquire?
Founded in 2010, Chaotic Moon worked across experience strategy, digital design, prototyping and development. Accenture described the acquisition as a way to add creative technology and rapid prototyping to Accenture Interactive’s capabilities, while strengthening its presence in Texas. The companies said Chaotic Moon would join forces with Fjord, which the announcement described as Accenture Interactive’s design and innovation arm.

Accenture framed the strategic fit around combining those capabilities with its aim of expanding end-to-end digital experience services. That was the company’s stated rationale at the time, not an independent measure of results after the acquisition. Accenture’s July 22, 2015 announcement describes the deal and its rationale.
What work was Chaotic Moon known for?
The announcement cited work for brands including Disney and Marvel, and highlighted the Whole Foods “Smart Cart”: a concept for an autonomous cart designed to follow a shopper and track needed items, ingredients and purchase totals. It was presented as a project example, not as a retail product confirmed to be available for purchase.

Was the sale price announced?
No. Accenture’s announcement did not disclose the purchase price or other transaction terms. It also did not provide a substantive statistic measuring the acquisition’s outcome. The release noted that Accenture had generated net revenues of US$30.0 billion for the fiscal year ended August 31, 2014; that figure is company background, not the deal value or a benefit attributed to the acquisition.
What did the companies say at the time?
Brian Whipple, then senior managing director of Accenture Interactive, said the acquisition would help the group meet growing demand for digital design and innovation services. Chaotic Moon CEO and co-founder Ben Lamm said the studio planned to continue serving existing clients and work with Accenture’s large-brand roster. These were the executives’ statements and plans when the acquisition was announced; they do not establish what results followed.
