No. Louisiana businessman John Miller and an investment group called NewP3 reportedly wanted to take control of Spirit Airlines and move its corporate operations and principal hub to New Orleans, but the available account is an advocacy petition—not a verified, funded offer. Spirit later announced that it had begun an orderly wind-down on May 2, 2026. The airline did not continue operating under the proposed plan.
What the reported buyout proposal called for
A Change.org petition created April 7, 2026, described an effort by Miller and NewP3 to assemble a proposal for majority control of Spirit Airlines. It said the group had a $1 billion fundraising target, planned to move Spirit’s corporate operations from Fort Lauderdale to New Orleans, and wanted to make Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport the airline’s principal hub. Those are claims in the petition, not verified transaction terms or measured results. The petition’s starter said they were not part of the legal parties or investment group. The available account does not establish that Miller or NewP3 filed a formal offer with the bankruptcy court, secured the stated amount, or received acceptance from Spirit or its creditors.
Why a stated target is not the same as a completed buyout
A proposed acquisition has to move through several distinct stages. Publicly describing a plan does not establish that investors have committed money, that a company or its creditors have accepted the terms, or that a court has approved a transaction. Likewise, naming a city as a future hub does not show that an airline has adopted or implemented that operating plan.

In this case, the petition provides the reported ambition, but it does not establish committed financing, creditor or court approval, or an operating plan that took effect. No independent source in the available record establishes the proposal’s chances of success, so there is no basis for assigning it odds.
What Spirit’s restructuring agreement did—and did not—mean
On March 13, 2026, Spirit disclosed a creditor-supported restructuring agreement. In a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission, Spirit said the agreement had support from holders of approximately 74.6% of new-money debtor-in-possession (DIP) loans, 71.8% of roll-up DIP loans, and 60.0% of certain secured notes. Those figures describe support for the agreement among specified creditor groups; they do not show that Spirit had completed bankruptcy proceedings or successfully resumed business as a continuing airline. Spirit Aviation Holdings, Spirit Airlines’ parent, later said that the March agreement “would have allowed us to emerge as a go-forward business.” That is the company’s retrospective description of the plan, not proof that it was certain to succeed.
Spirit’s actual outcome: an orderly wind-down
