Which Cash App settlement is this?
This is Bottoms v. Block, Inc., Case No. 2:23-cv-01969-MJP, in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Washington. It involves allegations about Cash App’s “Invite Friends” referral-text feature. Block denied wrongdoing and said it complied with the law; the administrator’s FAQ states that the settlement is not an admission of wrongdoing. The official Bottoms settlement site says it is the only authorized site for this litigation.

It is separate from other Cash App matters involving data incidents or customer-service practices. Those cases have different eligibility rules, deadlines, and payment schedules, so a headline or search result about a “Cash App settlement check” may refer to a different program.
Who qualified for the Bottoms settlement?

- They received a Cash App “Invite Friends” referral text between November 14, 2019, and August 7, 2025.
- They were Washington residents when they received the text.
- They had not clearly and affirmatively consented in advance to receive it.
Simply having a Cash App account, or living in Washington, did not by itself establish eligibility. The settlement FAQ says receiving a mailed or emailed notice indicates that records suggest someone may have received a covered text, but a person without notice could still fit the class definition. The claim deadline has passed, however, and claims are closed. Read the settlement FAQ for the administrator’s description of the class and claims.
How much is the Cash App settlement check?
The settlement fund was $12.5 million. The settlement notice initially estimated payments of $88 to $147 per valid claim, while warning that the final amount could be higher or lower depending on the number of valid claims. That was an estimate, not the final reported award.

In a distribution update dated April 1, 2026, the administrator stated: “For your reference, the Settlement Award is $394.36 per accepted claim.” That is the administrator’s reported award for an accepted claim; it does not mean every Cash App user qualifies or that every person who submitted a claim was accepted. Where is my Cash App settlement check?
The administrator’s April 1, 2026 update said failed digital payments and returned checks had been processed and reissued as paper checks. It anticipated that most checks would arrive by April 8, 2026. That estimated delivery date has passed, and the update does not establish the current status of any individual payment.

Have any claim or notice details available when you contact the administrator. Do not assume that a general distribution update confirms whether your specific payment was issued or delivered.

Two other Cash App compensation matters commonly appear in searches for settlement checks. They are not part of Bottoms v. Block.

What the referral-text lawsuit alleged
The settlement FAQ describes the plaintiffs’ claim as alleging that Block substantially assisted Cash App users in sending unsolicited commercial text messages through the Invite Friends feature without recipients’ advance clear and affirmative consent. Block denied wrongdoing and said it complied with the law; settlement does not establish that the allegations were proven.
