What happened to the claim deadline?
The original headline is out of date. The official settlement administrator says late claim forms are no longer accepted. The deadline for submitting a claim was November 18, 2024, and the administrator reports that deficiency responses and appeals have been reviewed.

The settlement is Salinas, et al. v. Block, Inc. and Cash App Investing, LLC, Case No. 22-cv-04823, in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California. The administrator says the court granted final approval on March 27, 2025. Its status page, updated September 28, 2026, schedules distribution to approved claims for October 2026. It does not specify a day. Check the administrator’s official status page for the latest update.
Who was covered by the settlement?
The settlement class description included current or former Cash App or Cash App Investing customers whose personal information or account was accessed without authorization, or who experienced unauthorized or fraudulent withdrawals or transfers, or an error-resolution deficiency, during the specified period through the August 20, 2024 notice date. That summary does not determine whether any particular person qualified; the claims period has ended.

The administrator described allegations related to a 2022 access incident involving a former Cash App Investing employee, a 2023 incident involving unauthorized access to certain Cash App accounts using recycled phone numbers, and alleged unauthorized or fraudulent transfers and complaint or error-resolution practices. These were allegations, not findings of fact.
What benefits did the settlement offer?
The $15 million figure refers to the settlement fund, not a guaranteed payment to each class member. Under the terms described in the administrator’s FAQ, eligible benefits depended on submitting a timely, valid claim and having it approved. The claim categories and limits were:

These were claim terms, not an open offer. The fund was subject to administration expenses, attorneys’ fees and costs, and service payments. The remaining amount was allocated to approved claims; the FAQ said payments could be reduced pro rata if the net fund could not cover them. Any balance could be distributed pro rata or donated if it was too small to distribute.
When will approved claims be paid?
The administrator schedules payments for approved claims for October 2026. It has not published an exact distribution date in the status information cited here, and the scheduled month does not establish that a particular claim was approved or when that claimant will receive money. For a claim-specific question, use the administrator’s official site and verify its current contact details there.

Don't use search engines or shortened versions of the website address, as these may lead you to fake or fraudulent sites. Be cautious of phishing sites, there are a variety of scams in which fraudsters try to trick others into paying with gift cards.

Why was the case settled?
The plaintiffs alleged security and error-resolution failures. Block and Cash App Investing denied liability and wrongdoing, according to the settlement FAQ. The administrator states that the settlement is not an admission of wrongdoing and does not imply that a court found either company violated the law.
