The latest Centrelink payment increase took effect on 20 September 2026—not “within days.” Services Australia lists headline increases of $36.80 per fortnight for single recipients and $55.60 for couples across the Age Pension, Carer Payment and Disability Support Pension. Your own increase may differ because payment rates depend on individual circumstances.
Which Centrelink payments increased?
The 20 September 2026 adjustment applies to the Age Pension, Carer Payment and Disability Support Pension. It is not an increase to every Centrelink payment. Services Australia’s notice sets out the payments covered.
How much did the increase add?
Services Australia’s headline figures are $36.80 per fortnight for singles and $55.60 for couples. These are the agency’s stated increase amounts, not a guarantee that every recipient’s payment rises by exactly that amount. Personal rates can vary with income, assets and other circumstances; check the relevant Disability Support Pension rate information or Carer Payment rate information.
For context, the Carer Payment rate page lists maximum rates from 20 September 2026 of $1,237.70 per fortnight for a single recipient and $933.00 per person for a couple. Those are total maximum payment rates, not the amount added by the increase, and not every recipient receives the maximum.

When did the new rates take effect?
The adjustment took effect on 20 September 2026. The headline “within days” is no longer current as of 8 October 2026. The current Services Australia notice was published and last updated on 8 September 2026.
Do you need to apply?
No. Services Australia says, “You don’t need to do anything.” The increase is automatic for eligible recipients covered by the adjustment.

How to check your next payment
Check the amount due in your Centrelink online account or the Express Plus Centrelink mobile app. Your account shows the amount calculated for your circumstances.

The PerthNow page with the headline “Cash boost coming for millions of Centrelink customers within days” reports $29.70 a fortnight for singles and $44.80 for couples, but its accessible page does not show a publication date. Those figures conflict with the current Services Australia notice, so they should not be treated as the September 2026 increase. The available notice and page also do not verify the headline’s claim that millions of customers are affected.
