April 2026 produced several strong phone promotions, but the headline price rarely told the whole story. Some discounts were genuinely available on unlocked phones with no trade-in. Others required a new line, an expensive unlimited plan, a 36-month installment agreement, or a separate service plan for the “free” accessory.
This is an April 2026 deal snapshot, based on offers reported between April 2 and April 27, 2026. These promotions should not be assumed to remain available on August 8, 2026.

Best unlocked flagship deal: Samsung Galaxy S26 at Best Buy
Best Buy’s April promotion was one of the cleaner ways to save on a premium Android phone because it did not require a trade-in. The advertised prices were:
- Galaxy S26: $799.99 unlocked, or $699.99 with AT&T or Verizon activation.
- Galaxy S26 Plus: $999.99 unlocked, or $899.99 with activation.
- Galaxy S26 Ultra: $1,099.99 unlocked, or $999.99 with activation.
The important distinction is that the largest discount was not simply an unlocked $300 reduction. The $300 maximum applied to the S26 Ultra when selecting AT&T or Verizon activation at checkout. Without activation, the Ultra was reported at $1,099.99, a $200 discount.

This was potentially the best fit for someone who wanted to own the phone outright and avoid trading in an existing device. Before choosing the activation price, compare the carrier’s total monthly cost with your current bill. A $100 phone discount can disappear quickly if the required plan costs substantially more than your existing service.
Best no-trade-in offer: Galaxy S26 Ultra at Verizon
Verizon advertised the Galaxy S26 Ultra for effectively $0 through $1,300 in bill credits over 36 months. The promotion also included a $100 gift card. The listed phone price was $1,299.99.
There was no trade-in requirement, but this was not an unconditional free phone. The offer required:
- A new Verizon line.
- The Unlimited Ultimate plan.
- Keeping the line active long enough to receive the full 36 months of credits.
The phone’s installment balance is credited back each month. If you cancel or leave Verizon before the credit period ends, you can generally lose the remaining credits and become responsible for the unpaid device balance. That makes this offer most suitable for someone already planning to stay with Verizon for three years and comfortable paying for its highest-tier plan.

Calculate the full commitment—not just the phone price:
- Monthly plan cost multiplied by 36 months.
- Any taxes, activation charges, or other one-time fees.
- The cost of switching away before the credits finish.
Best phone-and-accessory bundle: Pixel 10a and Pixel Buds 2a at T-Mobile
T-Mobile offered the $499.99 Google Pixel 10a free with a free pair of Pixel Buds 2a. The promotion did not require a trade-in and was available to new and existing customers, but it required adding a line on “most plans.” A reported $35 phone activation fee also applied.

The additional line is the main financial issue. If you are adding service solely to obtain the phone, compare 24 or 36 months of added line charges with the $499.99 retail value of the Pixel 10a and the value you place on the earbuds. The bundle may be reasonable for a household that already needs another line. It is less attractive if the phone promotion causes you to carry an unnecessary line.
Best prepaid deal: Pixel 10 at Mint Mobile
Mint Mobile cut the 128GB Google Pixel 10 from $799 to $299 and offered 50% off one year of Unlimited service. The reported bundle total was $479, or roughly $40 per month through Affirm.
The $299 phone price was not available as a standalone, service-free purchase. You had to buy the phone with one year of Mint service, and the discounted wireless price applied to the Unlimited plan.
This structure can work well for someone who is comfortable with prepaid service and wants to avoid a traditional carrier installment plan. If you use Affirm, include the financing terms in your comparison rather than treating the $479 bundle as automatically interest-free. Also check Mint’s coverage in the locations where you regularly use your phone before switching.
Best direct Amazon discount: Pixel 10 for $549
Amazon reported the unlocked 128GB Pixel 10 at $549, down from $799—a $250 reduction. The April 22 deal applied to the Indigo, Lemongrass, and Frost colors and did not require a trade-in or carrier activation.
For a buyer who wants a current Pixel without a service commitment, this was more straightforward than the carrier-credit offers. You pay the discounted purchase price and keep your existing carrier, subject to the retailer’s return, warranty, and stock terms.

Confirm the storage capacity and seller before paying. The reported offer was specifically for the 128GB version, not necessarily every Pixel 10 configuration.
Best high-end unlocked Samsung price: Galaxy S26 Ultra at Amazon
Amazon’s April price for the Galaxy S26 Ultra 256GB was $1,079, a $220 reduction from the usual price. The reported deal applied to the black model; other colors were listed at $1,099.
No trade-in was required. This was a direct retail discount rather than a carrier promotion, so it avoided the 36-month credit period associated with Verizon’s “free” Ultra. It still represents a large upfront purchase, however. If paying cash would reduce your emergency savings or force you to carry a credit-card balance, a smaller discount on a less expensive phone may be the safer financial choice.
Best AT&T phone promotions
Flagship phones free with trade-in
AT&T advertised the Galaxy S26, S26 Plus, and S26 Ultra as free with an eligible trade-in, a new line, and a qualifying unlimited data plan. The iPhone 17 Pro was advertised with up to $1,100 off, enough to make it free in the cited promotion. The base iPhone 17 was also advertised as free with an eligible trade-in and plan.
These are potentially valuable offers if you already have a qualifying phone and intend to remain with AT&T. They are not useful comparisons for someone without a trade-in or someone trying to minimize monthly service costs. Check the exact trade-in model, condition requirements, plan, and credit schedule before valuing the phone at $0.
Budget and inexpensive options
- Motorola Moto G Play (2026): $9.99 through AT&T Prepaid, reduced from $179.99. Required an AT&T Prepaid unlimited plan costing at least $35 per month; no trade-in was required.
- Google Pixel 10a: reported at $3.99 per month for 36 months with a new line and eligible unlimited plan.
Another April AT&T update listed the Pixel 10a at $5.99 per month, so the two figures should not be combined. The $3.99 price should be treated as an earlier April snapshot rather than a guaranteed current price.

Late-April Verizon iPhone bundle
On April 27, Verizon advertised a free iPad A16 or Apple Watch 11 with an iPhone purchase. The iPhone 17 and iPhone Air included a $100 Verizon eGift card; the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max included a $270 eGift card.
The tablet or watch was not entirely free in the ordinary sense. It required its own Verizon service plan, which created an additional recurring expense. Price the extra line for the entire period you expect to keep it before deciding that the bundle is a bargain.

How to compare a phone deal by total cost
Use this calculation before accepting any “free” phone promotion:
Total cost = phone payments after credits + required plan cost + activation fees + taxes and fees + trade-in cost − gift cards and other confirmed discounts.
Then compare that result with buying an unlocked phone and keeping your current service. Pay particular attention to these failure modes:
- Leaving early: remaining device credits may stop, while the unpaid phone balance remains.
- Changing plans: moving to an ineligible plan can terminate promotional credits.
- Overvaluing trade-ins: the advertised maximum may apply only to specific models in specific condition.
- Ignoring new-line costs: a phone can be free while the required line costs hundreds of dollars over the promotion period.
- Confusing bundle prices: Mint’s $299 Pixel 10 price required one year of service; it was not a $299 phone with no commitment.
- Forgetting accessory service: Verizon’s iPad and Apple Watch bundle required a separate service plan.

The Verizon Galaxy S26 Ultra offer had the lowest phone price on paper, but only for someone willing to add a line on Unlimited Ultimate and remain for 36 months. Mint’s Pixel 10 bundle offered a compelling prepaid alternative, provided the buyer wanted a year of Mint service. T-Mobile’s Pixel 10a bundle made more sense for a household that already needed an additional line than for someone creating a line solely for the promotion.
