The largest documented philanthropic commitment associated with Michael Jordan is a $100 million multiyear pledge made with Jordan Brand in 2020. Other major reported gifts supported health clinics, Make-A-Wish America, and disaster relief. The available records do not establish ten distinct ventures with comparable completed costs, so this is a sourced guide to major commitments—not a verified ranking of the ten most expensive.
Why there is no verified top 10
The reported amounts describe different things: individual gifts, a multiyear pledge, allocations from that pledge, and cumulative giving to one foundation. They cannot be ranked as ten separate, completed expenses without risking double-counting or implying totals the sources do not provide. In particular, the first allocations from the $100 million pledge are not additional ventures on top of that pledge, and Novant Health’s $27 million figure is a cumulative total rather than a new gift.
The list below identifies major reported commitments and specifies the year, recipient, purpose, and type of amount wherever the sources do. It is not an audited accounting of Jordan’s lifetime giving.

$100 million pledge to social-justice and education causes (2020)
Michael Jordan and Jordan Brand announced a $100 million pledge over time focused on social justice, economic justice, and education and awareness. NBA.com reported initial allocations of $1 million each to the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund and the Formerly Incarcerated, Convicted Peoples and Families Movement, plus $500,000 to Black Voters Matter. Those allocations are part of the pledge’s reporting, not separate additions to its headline amount. The report does not establish how much of the full pledge has been disbursed. What can be said about how much Jordan has donated?
The sources above document several large commitments, but they do not establish a complete lifetime total. The $100 million figure is a multiyear pledge, and the cited report gives initial allocations rather than the full amount disbursed. Novant’s $27 million figure is cumulative giving to its foundation as reported in 2025, not an additional gift beyond previously announced clinic support. Adding these unlike figures together would produce a misleading total.
For a meaningful comparison, keep the amount attached to its context: recipient, year, stated purpose, location where specified, and whether the figure is a gift, pledge, allocation, or cumulative institutional total.
