Air Canada has not been reported to cancel all its winter flights to Florida. Instead, three seasonal routes—Ottawa–Fort Lauderdale, Quebec City–Orlando and Montreal–Palm Beach—are reported to start in December rather than October for Winter 2026–27. Exact first flight dates were not included in the July reports, so travelers should check their specific itinerary and the airline’s current schedule.

Which Florida routes are affected?

The reported change applies to three city pairs:

  • Ottawa–Fort Lauderdale
  • Quebec City–Orlando
  • Montreal–Palm Beach

For these seasonal services, reports say the start is shifting from October to December. They do not say the routes are canceled for the entire winter. Nor do they establish that every flight to Florida, or every Florida destination Air Canada serves, is affected. Global News reported the route changes on July 7, 2026; the reviewed reports do not give exact first operating dates.

Are any Air Canada winter routes canceled?

Separately, Air Canada is reported to be keeping three Midwest routes canceled for Winter 2026–27:

  • Montreal–Detroit
  • Montreal–Minneapolis
  • Toronto–Indianapolis

These are not Florida routes, and reports say they also did not operate the previous winter. The Florida start-date delays and the Midwest cancellations are distinct schedule changes.

Why are the Florida flights starting later?

Air Canada said it regularly reviews its schedules to align capacity with customer demand and seasonal travel patterns. In reports about the Florida changes, the airline described the later starts as positioning service closer to peak winter travel periods and better matching projected demand. This is the airline’s stated rationale; the reports do not establish that fuel prices alone caused the changes.

National travel figures offer context, but do not explain a particular route decision. Statistics Canada data reported by Global News show Canadians made 5.4 million trips to the United States in the fourth quarter of 2025, 24% fewer than in the same quarter of 2024. Canadians spent $4 billion in the U.S. from October through December 2025, down 16.4% year over year. Canadians also took 8.7 million trips abroad in Q4 2025, 13% fewer than a year earlier. These are national figures, not snowbird-only or Florida-specific counts. Global News reported the figures on May 29, 2026.

The schedule changes also do not amount to a wholesale retreat from winter leisure travel. In its April 6, 2026 Winter 2026–27 network announcement, Air Canada listed leisure destinations and route additions including Tenerife, Roatán, Santo Domingo, Mérida and Mazatlán, as well as new nonstop routes from Canadian cities to destinations in the Caribbean and Mexico. That broader network announcement does not indicate whether the affected Florida flights will operate before December.

How to check whether your booking is affected

  1. Find your exact city pair and travel date. The reported changes concern Ottawa–Fort Lauderdale, Quebec City–Orlando and Montreal–Palm Beach; a different Florida route may have a different schedule.
  2. Check the current itinerary with Air Canada. Look for a schedule-change notice and confirm the operating date and airport. The July 2026 reports do not establish what may have changed since publication.
  3. If you need an earlier departure, compare complete itineraries. Check the first available date, whether the trip is nonstop or connecting, total journey time and fare rules—not just the destination city.
  4. Contact the airline or your booking provider before changing plans. Confirm the options and applicable terms for your specific ticket before accepting a substitute or buying another flight.

What is not yet clear from the reports?

The reports establish a broad December start for the three Florida routes, but not their exact first operating dates, current seat availability, fares or any subsequent schedule revisions. A December start does not by itself determine whether a particular October or November booking has been changed; the traveler’s current itinerary is the relevant confirmation.
