You can buy China Construction Bank Corporation (CCB) shares through a broker that offers access to the relevant exchange and accepts clients in your jurisdiction. CCB has Hong Kong-listed H-shares (code 939 or 00939) and Shanghai-listed A-shares (code 601939). They are separate exchange listings with different access routes, trading rules, currencies and lot sizes—not interchangeable order tickets.

Choose the listing you want, confirm your broker supports it and that you qualify to trade it, then review costs and order terms before placing an order. This is a guide to the process, not a recommendation to buy CCB shares.

Which China Construction Bank shares can you buy?

Listing Broker search What to know
Hong Kong H-shares China Construction Bank; code 939 or 00939 CCB reports a standard board lot of 1,000 H-shares. You need a broker with Hong Kong market access. CCB General Shareholder Information
Shanghai A-shares China Construction Bank; code 601939 CCB reports a standard board lot of 100 A-shares. Overseas investors may be able to trade eligible Shanghai shares through Northbound Stock Connect, subject to security eligibility, broker access and applicable account rules. CCB’s 2025 half-year report identifies its H-shares as 00939 on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange and its A-shares as 601939 on the Shanghai Stock Exchange. CCB 2025 Half-Year Report Confirm the exchange and share class shown on your broker’s order screen before submitting an order.

How to buy CCB shares through a broker

  1. Choose a listing. Decide whether you want Hong Kong H-shares or Shanghai A-shares. Your choice affects market access, order rules, currency and settlement. CCB General Shareholder Information
  2. Confirm access and eligibility before opening or funding an account. For H-shares, ask whether Hong Kong trading is enabled. For Shanghai A-shares, ask whether the broker offers Shanghai Northbound Stock Connect, whether its retail clients in your country can use it, and whether CCB 601939 is currently eligible. Stock Connect provides overseas investors access only to selected securities. HKEX: Stock Connect Explained HKEX: Stock Connect eligible products
  3. Check the account and funding requirements. These vary by broker and location. For example, CCB (Asia)’s Northbound service requires customers to maintain a securities cash account and an RMB settlement account; that is a provider-specific condition, not a universal requirement. 4. Read the order rules and minimum lot handling. CCB reports standard lots of 1,000 H-shares and 100 A-shares. CCB (Asia)’s Northbound service describes limit orders only, 100-share buy lots, no day trading, and cash settlement in RMB on trade day plus one. Other brokers may use different terms or features, so check the provider’s current rules. CCB General Shareholder Information CCB (Asia): Northbound trading terms
  5. Review all charges and currency exposure. Check commission, exchange and regulatory charges, custody or account fees, and any currency-conversion spread. Shanghai Northbound shares are RMB-denominated, so investors whose home currency differs from RMB face exchange-rate exposure. Your broker’s applicable fees depend on its current tariff and your account; verify them directly.
  6. Enter and verify the order. Search by CCB’s name and the correct exchange code, check that the displayed listing is the share class you chose, and select an order type and quantity supported by the broker. Review the estimated total and submit. Then check the order status and execution: sending an instruction does not guarantee that it will be filled. CCB (Asia): Shanghai–Hong Kong Stock Connect

What to compare when choosing a broker

Compare the broker’s terms for your country and intended market, not just its headline commission. For a Shanghai A-share purchase, the broker must support Northbound Stock Connect; for a Hong Kong H-share purchase, it must support Hong Kong-listed securities.

  • Whether the broker serves clients in your jurisdiction and offers the market route you need
  • Account-opening, funding and settlement-currency requirements, including whether an RMB balance is needed
  • Available order types, lot-size handling, execution and cancellation rules, and whether day trading is permitted
  • Commission and other trading charges, custody or account fees, and currency-conversion costs
  • Statements, tax documents and support for corporate actions
  • For Stock Connect, current security eligibility, trading-day arrangements and quota conditions

HKEX says Northbound Stock Connect covers selected A-shares and ETFs and is subject to a daily quota. Eligibility or quota conditions can affect whether trading is available, so check current HKEX and broker information before placing an order. HKEX: Stock Connect Explained

Risks and limits to check before investing

CCB (Asia)’s Northbound Trading risk disclosure warns: “The prices of securities fluctuate, sometimes dramatically. The price of a security may move up or down, and may become valueless.” It also identifies currency risk for investors whose funds are not in RMB and warns that trading may be restricted or suspended because of quota or eligibility changes. These are general service disclosures, not a personal assessment of whether the shares suit you. CCB (Asia): Northbound Trading risk disclosure
