Start with a platform label or song credit, then check the artist’s public history. If those clues are inconclusive, Deezer’s free playlist detector can scan playlists from supported services. Listening for telltale sounds is not reliable, and no single badge, credit, or detector result proves how every track was made.
Check labels and credits first
Open the track or album page and look for an AI label, then inspect the song credits. Read each disclosure carefully: it may describe an AI-generated artist identity, a specific AI contribution, or music identified by a platform’s detection system. Those are different claims.
Deezer labels detected tracks
Deezer says it labels albums that contain tracks its system identifies as AI-generated. Those tracks remain available to play, but Deezer says it excludes detected AI tracks from algorithmic recommendations and editorial playlists. The label describes Deezer’s own detection; it is not a guarantee that every AI-generated track on Deezer, or on other services, has been identified. Deezer’s June 2026 announcement reported more than 13.4 million detected AI tracks in 2025. That is a Deezer figure, not an industry-wide count.
Spotify’s badge and credits mean different things
Spotify’s AI Persona badge refers to an artist identity that may be AI-generated; it does not identify how a particular song was made. Spotify says the badge is “about the artist’s public identity, not about how the music was made.” AI Credits, by contrast, can disclose a contribution to a song, such as AI involvement in vocals, lyrics, or production. Credits depend on information supplied by artists, labels, or distributors, so missing credits do not establish that AI was not used. Spotify explains the AI Persona badge, and its AI Credits announcement describes the song-level disclosures.

Creator disclosures can describe partial use
“AI-generated” does not always mean that a complete song was made by AI. YouTube’s guidance for music partners distinguishes fully generated content from partly generated content—for example, AI might contribute one arrangement layer or help develop lyrics or a melody before a person records the audio. Its metadata depends on partner submissions and is not a universal detector for listeners across streaming services. YouTube’s music-partner guidance explains the categories.
Scan a playlist with Deezer’s online detector
If a track is on another streaming service and has no clear disclosure, Deezer’s web-based playlist detector is the direct cross-service workflow identified here. Deezer announced it as free to use without a paid Deezer subscription. The announcement says it covers 20 commonly used services and is available in 27 languages; check the live tool for the current supported-service list.

- Advanced build quality and engineering; Designed for studio tracking and mixing
- 40 mm drivers with rare earth magnets and copper clad aluminum wire voice coils
- Tuned for enhanced low frequency performance
- Circumaural design contours around the ears for excellent sound isolation in loud environments
- Convenient single side cable exit
- Open Deezer’s online AI music detector.
- Select the streaming service where the playlist is hosted and connect your account as prompted.
- Choose a playlist for the tool to scan.
- Review the results as an indication from that service’s detector, not a definitive ruling on every track.
The announcement does not provide a complete, independently verified list of supported services or establish that every AI track will be recognized. Deezer reported 99.8% detection accuracy and fewer than one false positive per 10,000 human-made tracks in 2026; those are company-reported performance figures for its system, not an independent guarantee for every service, model, or version of a track. Deezer describes its detection technology.
Use artist history as corroboration, not proof
When labels and credits are absent, look for a consistent public identity: older posts, linked social accounts, a coherent release history, and real-world performances. Spotify says its artist-verification review may consider concert dates, merchandise, and linked social accounts, while allowing artists who use AI responsibly if they present themselves authentically. Spotify’s artist-verification announcement describes that approach.

A sparse profile can justify checking further, but it does not prove a track or artist is synthetic. Likewise, an established artist’s history does not settle whether AI contributed to a particular recording.
Why listening alone is unreliable
A polished or rough vocal, repetitive structure, generic rhymes, a particular genre, or AI-looking cover art may attract attention, but none reliably identifies a song’s origin. Deezer’s head of research and development told the Associated Press that listening is difficult and that older clues, including distinctive vocal reverb, may stop being useful as generative models change. The AP also notes that judgments about lyrical clues are subjective. The Associated Press reports on the limits of spotting AI music by ear.

Automated audio detectors can provide another signal, but a score is not a verdict. A research paper on AI-generated music detection identifies audio manipulation and performance on models not represented in training as continuing challenges. Results on selected test datasets do not establish certainty for every model, remix, compressed stream, or edited file. The paper, “AI-Generated Music Detection and its Challenges,” discusses these limits. Avoid uploading copyrighted or private audio to an unvetted detector; some services accept files, and the AP found inconclusive results and mistakes in tested examples.
What the available signals can and cannot tell you
| Signal | What it can indicate | What it cannot establish |
|---|---|---|
| Deezer AI label | Deezer’s system detected AI-associated music on a labeled album. | That all AI-generated tracks have been labeled, or that other services use the same detection. |
| Deezer playlist detector | A scan of a playlist hosted by a supported service, using Deezer’s detector. | That every track is recognized or that results are an independent, universal test. |
| Spotify AI Persona badge | The artist identity may be AI-generated, based on self-disclosure or Spotify review. | That a specific track was made with AI. |
| Spotify AI Credits | A disclosed AI contribution to a song, if the information was submitted. | That no AI was used when no credit appears. |
| YouTube partner metadata | A partner’s designation of music as fully or partly Gen AI, or not Gen AI. | A listener’s universal detector across streaming platforms. |
| Artist background | Public context that may support or complicate an authenticity claim. | Proof of whether a specific recording used AI. |
How to describe a track when you cannot confirm it
Separate what is visible from what you infer. “Spotify labels this profile as an AI Persona” is a claim about identity; “the credits disclose AI involvement in the vocals” is a claim about a contribution; and “Deezer’s detector flagged the track” reports a detector result. If there is no disclosure and the clues conflict, say the track’s origin is unconfirmed rather than calling it AI-generated.

For context, Deezer reported that fully AI-generated music accounted for 1–3% of streams on its service in 2025, and that up to 85% of streams on those tracks were identified as fraudulent. It also reported around 90,000 AI-generated deliveries per day and more than half of daily uploads at peak in June 2026. These are Deezer’s platform-specific figures, not measurements of all streaming services or of the share of music listeners hear. Deezer’s report on its 2025 labeling gives the figures and their platform context.
A separate Deezer-commissioned Ipsos survey in 2025 found that 97% of surveyed listeners could not distinguish fully AI-generated from human-made music in a blind test. The test involved 9,000 people across eight countries and three songs—two AI-generated and one human-made—so it should not be read as a measure of every listener’s ability in every listening situation. Deezer and Ipsos describe the survey.
