CES 2025 and the AI Investment Boom: What 10 Companies’ Roles Actually Show

Stargate’s $500 billion figure was a four-year investment intention, not completed spending. Here are the named funders and technology partners—and how they differ from the broader ten-company CES list.

The clearest evidence behind the AI investment boom is Stargate, announced on January 21, 2025, as a plan to invest $500 billion over four years in U.S. AI infrastructure, with $100 billion intended to begin deploying immediately. That was a funding commitment, not proof the money had already been spent. The ten companies in the original CES 2025 article are not ten Stargate investors: the announcement names four initial equity funders and five technology partners, while the other companies appear in the article’s broader selection.

What the $500 billion Stargate announcement means

OpenAI described Stargate as a new company that intended to invest $500 billion over four years to build AI infrastructure in the United States. It said $100 billion would begin deploying immediately. Those figures describe intended investment and initial deployment, not audited spending or completed construction.

At the White House launch, President Donald Trump described Stargate as a project that “will invest $500 billion at least” and said it would create “over 100,000 American jobs almost immediately.” Those were launch-day projections, not verified employment outcomes. He also said he would help through emergency declarations, referring to electricity production needed for AI facilities; the remarks do not establish that such declarations or new power capacity followed.

Which companies had defined Stargate roles?

OpenAI identified separate groups of equity funders and technology partners. A company’s appearance in one group does not imply membership in the other, and the launch announcement does not disclose comparable investment amounts for each participant.

Company or organization Role stated at launch What that role establishes
SoftBank Initial equity funder; lead partner OpenAI said SoftBank had financial responsibility for the project.
OpenAI Initial equity funder; lead partner; technology partner OpenAI said it had operational responsibility and would use the infrastructure for its AI work.
Oracle Initial equity funder; technology partner Named as a participant in the project’s computing-system collaboration.
MGX Initial equity funder Named as an initial funder, not among the initial technology partners.
Arm Technology partner Named as a technology partner, not an initial equity funder.
Microsoft Technology partner Named as a technology partner; OpenAI also said it would continue increasing its use of Microsoft Azure.
NVIDIA Technology partner Named as a technology partner in the computing-system collaboration.

OpenAI said the buildout was underway, starting in Texas, and that Oracle, NVIDIA, and OpenAI would collaborate on the computing system. These are the roles and plans stated in OpenAI’s January 21, 2025 announcement; they do not mean that every named partner contributed the same kind or amount of capital.

How the ten-company list should be read

The Tech Times article grouped OpenAI, Solvent.Life, Oracle, SoftBank, NVIDIA, Microsoft, Arm, SoundHound AI, Tesla, and Alphabet as companies at the forefront of AI, pairing CES 2025 product coverage with the Stargate announcement. That is the article’s selection, not a verified ranking and not a list of ten Stargate funders.

  • Advanced Features: Equipped with 2 GB LPDDR4 RAM, 16 GB eMMC built-in storage, ideal to develop in PC-connected mode, running the OS, Python scripts, and basic network services (SSH) without a demanding GUI or heavy multitasking; great for lightweight AI and memory-optimized TinyML applications, needing local storage for basic OS and core libraries. Dual-band Wi-Fi 5 (2.4/5 GHz), Bluetooth 5.1, and high-speed headers for vision, audio, and display peripherals.
  • Seamless Expansion & Connectivity: Features the classic UNO form factor for shields compatibility, an 8x13 LED matrix, and a Qwiic connector for easy expansion with Modulino nodes; power and connect via the USB-C connector.
  • Intended Use & Development: The perfect platform for prototyping robotics or IoT projects, empowering innovators with a unified development experience to mix Arduino Sketches, Python scripts, and containerized AI models in a single interface.
  • Stargate funders: SoftBank, OpenAI, Oracle, and MGX were the initial equity funders identified by OpenAI. MGX is not in the article’s ten-company list.
  • Stargate technology partners: Arm, Microsoft, NVIDIA, Oracle, and OpenAI were named by OpenAI. Several also appear among the ten companies, but partner status is not the same as an equity-funding role.
  • Broader article inclusions: Solvent.Life, SoundHound AI, Tesla, and Alphabet appear in the Tech Times selection, but the reviewed Stargate announcement does not identify them as initial funders or technology partners.

The Tech Times article also reports CES-specific NVIDIA supercomputing advances and a SoundHound in-vehicle voice-commerce platform. Those claims are attributable to that article; the primary materials cited here do not independently establish the CES details. The article’s Solvent.Life adoption and revenue figures, and its Tesla autonomy and possible Uber partnership claims, likewise should not be treated as independently verified on this evidence.

What later updates say—and what they do not prove

In October 2025, OpenAI reported nearly 7 gigawatts of planned capacity and more than $400 billion in investment over the next three years across projects and sites. It said the full $500 billion, 10-gigawatt commitment was on a path to being secured by year-end 2025. These are company-reported plans and progress, not confirmation that the full commitment had been spent or that all planned capacity was operating.

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman said, “AI can only fulfill its promise if we build the compute to power it.” The statement captures the infrastructure rationale, but it is not independent evidence of project completion or financial performance.

What this means for readers assessing the investment boom

A large announced commitment can signal intended demand for data centers, computing equipment, and electricity without establishing that the spending has occurred or identifying a public-market winner. The launch announcement provides no comparable company-by-company investment totals for the ten names, so it cannot support a ranking by dollars invested. The White House Council of Economic Advisers’ report on AI investment announcements also cautions that its totals include targets for future years and that its list is not exhaustive; it is context, not a comprehensive tally of a Trump-era AI boom.
