Plan around the check-in opening time for your specific sailing, not the last-check-in cutoff. Isle of Man Steam Packet Company guidance sets last check-in at 45 minutes before departure for car and other vehicle passengers and 25 minutes for foot passengers. Bicycle passengers check in at vehicle check-in. Opening times vary by port and sailing, so confirm your booking and the relevant port page before travelling.
Last check-in deadlines by passenger type
| Passenger type | Last check-in | Where to check in |
|---|---|---|
| Car or other vehicle | 45 minutes before departure | Vehicle check-in booths |
| Foot passenger | 25 minutes before departure | Passenger Terminal; hand-luggage-only passengers may go directly to security with their QR code or booking reference |
| Bicycle passenger | Use vehicle check-in; the FAQ directs bicycle passengers there with a QR code or booking reference | Vehicle check-in |
These are last-check-in limits, not suggested arrival times. Leave enough time to reach the correct check-in point and complete the process before the cutoff. See the operator’s check-in and boarding FAQ for current instructions.
When check-in opens at each port
Opening times are not expressed identically across ports. Check the details for your departure port and booked sailing rather than assuming a single opening time applies everywhere.

Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How to plan your arrival
- Check your booking and the current port page for the sailing’s check-in opening time and terminal location.
- Choose the correct check-in point: vehicle booths for vehicles and bicycles, or the Passenger Terminal for foot passengers.
- Plan to arrive with time to reach that point and check in before the applicable last-check-in deadline; do not treat the cutoff as a recommended arrival time.
- Recheck the operator’s instructions close to travel, since port opening times and schedules can change.
The company’s Terms and Conditions 09/24 PDF, marked correct as of October 2024, says minimum check-in times may vary and services may depart up to 15 minutes before scheduled departure. Because that document is dated, use it as a reason to follow current sailing-specific instructions, not as a substitute for them. Terms and Conditions 09/24.
