The 2017 story “Camel milk to shake up WA dairy industry” was about Good Earth Dairy, a camel dairy in Dandaragan whose milk reached the Western Australian market in late 2016. The report called it WA’s first commercial camel dairy; that is a description from 2017, not a verified present-day ranking. Its price and nutrition figures are historical claims, not current buying or health guidance.

What was the WA camel milk story about?

Claire Tyrrell’s PerthNow report, published on 6 July 2017, covered Good Earth Dairy in Dandaragan and the arrival of camel milk in the WA market. The report described the business as the state’s first commercial camel dairy. That wording belongs to the article’s time and should not be read as a current industry ranking. Read the 2017 PerthNow report.

The story also said demand had doubled over the preceding four months as the milk became better known. It did not identify a sales dataset or measurement method, so this is a claim reported in 2017—not evidence of a current demand trend.

What does camel milk taste like?

PerthNow described its own tasting as slightly salty, somewhat sweet, and less creamy than whole cow’s milk. That is the publication’s reported experience, not a controlled comparison or a guarantee of how every camel milk product will taste. Flavoured and cultured products may differ from fresh milk.

What products has Good Earth Dairy listed?

A Government of Western Australia exhibitor directory for Gulfood 2024 lists Good Earth Dairy products as fresh milk, chocolate milk, coffee milk, kefir drink, and gelato. This is a dated product listing; it does not confirm what is currently in stock, where products are sold, or whether delivery is available. View the WA Government’s Gulfood 2024 exhibitor directory.

Is camel milk more nutritious than cow’s milk?

The 2017 PerthNow article printed comparisons claiming camel milk had three times more vitamin C, half the saturated fat, and 60 per cent of the lactose of cow’s milk. It did not identify a laboratory study or measurement protocol for those figures, and they have not been independently verified here. They should not be generalized across products or treated as current nutrition facts.

The article quoted Curtin University nutritionist Amelia Harray cautioning: “There is no evidence to say it is more nutritious than cow’s milk for the general public.” The available information does not establish a current systematic review of camel milk nutrition, so it cannot support a broad claim that camel milk is healthier. For a practical comparison, check the current labels of the specific products you are considering, including nutrition per 100 mL and per serve, and compare protein, calcium, sugars, and saturated fat. Nutrition information for one product should not be assumed to apply to another.

What did camel milk cost, and what should buyers expect now?

PerthNow reported a price of $20 to $25 per litre in 2017. That is historical pricing, not a current quote. The article attributed to Good Earth Dairy head Marcel Steingiesser a prediction that the price would fall as consumption and production scale increased. The report does not establish whether that forecast came true. Check a current seller for price, location, shipping, storage instructions, and availability before budgeting for a purchase.

What food-safety rules apply in Western Australia?

WA dairy production, transport, processing, and retail operate under food-safety requirements. The WA Department of Health identifies the Food Act 2008, Food Regulations 2009, and Australia New Zealand Food Standards Code as relevant frameworks, and its guidance covers dairy businesses from primary production through retail. Dairy primary production and processing require documented food-safety controls. Businesses should consult current WA Health guidance for their circumstances; this summary is not legal advice. WA Health: Operating a dairy food business.

HealthyWA states that raw milk is illegal to sell for human consumption in Western Australia. It explains that pasteurisation heats milk for a set time and then cools it. If a product is described as “raw,” “unpasteurised,” or “bath milk,” do not assume it is legally sold as a drink; check its intended use and the applicable guidance. HealthyWA: Raw milk.
