Pakistan’s federal cabinet reportedly reversed its earlier decision to dissolve the National Information Technology Board (NITB), which is expected to continue operating under the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication (MoITT). TechJuice reported the reversal, but no Cabinet record or legal instrument independently confirming its implementation is available in the sources cited here.

What happened to NITB?

TechJuice reports that the government first decided to dissolve NITB in August 2024, then reversed that decision after the Information Technology and Telecom Division submitted a revised summary dated June 27, 2025. The report says the cabinet considered the proposal under Rules 17(1)(b) and 19(1) of the Rules of Business, 1973. It does not specify the date of the cabinet meeting. Read the TechJuice report.

Those timeline and decision details are reported by TechJuice, not confirmed here by a Cabinet notification, summary, meeting record or Gazette instrument. The available sources therefore do not establish which legal instrument implemented the reversal, or whether later government action changed the position.

Why did the cabinet reportedly reverse the decision?

According to TechJuice, the Ministry of IT argued that dissolving NITB could disrupt important digital initiatives, including the e-Office program. The report also says several international digital cooperation agreements required NITB to remain a distinct body, and that the Ministry of Law was consulted before the revised summary was submitted.

The article attributes these points to unnamed sources; it does not reproduce the summary or identify the agreements. They should be understood as the report’s account of the rationale, not as independently documented legal findings. No named official quotation or decision-specific statistic is provided in the cited material.

What is NITB, and what work does it support?

MoITT describes NITB as a federal entity established under the NITB Act, 2022, operating under the Ministry and tasked with supporting Pakistan’s digital transformation agenda. That official institutional description provides context for the reported decision, but does not confirm that the cabinet reversed it. MoITT’s NITB CEO terms of reference.

Citizen services portal

MoITT says its Digital Economy Enhancement Project includes a National Citizen Services Portal assigned to NITB. The stated aim is to digitize government-to-person services end to end and address fragmentation and duplication in public service delivery. MoITT’s National Citizen Services Portal project page.

Project execution support

A MoITT project terms of reference dated June 22, 2025 lists NITB among the agencies providing execution support to the Digital Economy Enhancement Project. This documents NITB’s role in government digital-services work near the date of the reported summary; it does not verify the cabinet action. MoITT’s project terms of reference.

Will NITB continue under MoITT?

TechJuice says NITB would continue operating under MoITT following the reported reversal. MoITT’s own material describes NITB as a Ministry entity and documents its participation in digital-government projects. However, the sources cited here do not establish the legal instrument that enacted the reversal or show whether a subsequent decision altered it.
