Each airline received one aircraft, and the milestone was the start of C919 operations with two additional airline customers, not a new pair of deliveries today.
What happened on August 28, 2024?
COMAC announced that Air China Limited and China Southern Airlines Company Limited simultaneously received their first C919 aircraft at COMAC’s Pudong assembly base. China’s Civil Aviation Administration issued registration certificates, airworthiness certificates and radio station licenses for both aircraft. The State Council’s Xinhua account also reported that one aircraft went to each airline.
The original headline’s “on Wednesday” refers to that 2024 ceremony. It is not a current delivery announcement.
How did the two aircraft differ?
COMAC delivered different C919 variants and cabin layouts to the airlines. The seat counts describe the delivered configurations; by themselves, they do not establish which aircraft is more comfortable or performs better.

COMAC said both aircraft had customized cabin features and personal charging interfaces throughout. These details come from the manufacturer’s announcement of the deliveries, not from independent cabin testing.
Why were the deliveries significant?
China Eastern Airlines was the C919’s launch customer. The 2024 handovers brought the aircraft type to two additional airline customers, marking a shift from a single-operator phase toward multiple airlines operating the C919. They were an operational and fleet milestone; they do not, on their own, demonstrate large-scale production or broad international acceptance.

COMAC’s timeline puts the event in context: the C919 received its CAAC type certificate on September 29, 2022, was first delivered on December 9, 2022, and made its first commercial flight on May 28, 2023. COMAC’s product page lists baseline configurations spanning 158–192 seats and a range of 4,075–5,555 kilometers. Those are manufacturer-published general ranges across configurations, not specifications that apply identically to every aircraft.

The 2024 “first-ever” wording is now historical. China News Service’s ECNS report, published July 22, 2026, said China Southern took delivery of its 12th C919 on July 21, 2026. That is a dated fleet milestone, not a live count. The available reports do not support treating the old headline as a new dual delivery on October 7, 2026.
