The Chief Minister IT Internship Program (CMITIP), also branded “Work for Punjab,” offered eligible IT graduates on-site experience and a monthly stipend in its second cohort. That cohort’s application deadline was June 5, 2026, and has passed. Although the Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB) announced company registration for a next cycle in August, that notice did not say candidate applications were open. Check the official Work for Punjab portal for current status and updated rules.

What the CM Punjab IT internship offered

CMITIP is a Government of Punjab initiative managed by PITB that connects IT graduates with companies for on-site professional experience. The program portal identifies collaboration among the Government of Punjab, PITB, the Pakistan Software Houses Association (P@SHA), and the Pakistan Software Export Board (PSEB).

For the second cohort, PITB announced a five-month placement and a stipend of PKR 50,000 per month. Payment was subject to monthly performance and submission of an HEC-attested degree. PITB’s June closing notice described the placements as lasting “up to 5 months” and reported more than 2,400 paid internships. These are published second-cohort terms and counts, not a promise of the same terms or number of placements in a later cycle. See PITB’s April 22 cohort announcement and June 1 closing notice.

Is candidate registration open now?

The second-cohort application deadline was Friday, June 5, 2026, so that application window is closed. On August 10, 2026, PITB announced company-partner registration for the next cycle. That announcement indicates preparation to recruit partner companies; it does not establish that candidate registration has opened or provide new candidate dates. Check the official portal before acting on any application dates, and do not rely on an old cohort notice as confirmation of current availability. PITB’s next-cycle company registration notice is about partner companies, not candidate applications.

Who was eligible for the second cohort?

PITB’s second-cohort notice listed a relevant IT or computer science degree, graduation within the previous four years, a valid CNIC, and Punjab domicile. The indexed summary of the official portal adds a requirement of at least 16 years of education in Computer Science, IT, cybersecurity, information security, AI, multimedia, telecom or networking, animation, data science, graphic design, GIS, or a closely related subject. It also says applicants must be unemployed. These criteria describe the published second-cohort information; eligibility may change between cycles, so confirm the current rules on the portal.

How to prepare if a new candidate window opens

  1. Check the live portal: Open https://cmitinterns.punjab.gov.pk/ and confirm that candidate registration is open, along with its deadline and current cohort requirements.
  2. Check your eligibility against that cohort: Verify degree subject and education level, graduation date, Punjab domicile, CNIC validity, and any employment-status rule stated on the current portal.
  3. Confirm the document list: The second-cohort material names a valid CNIC and relevant degree, and says an HEC-attested degree was required for stipend payment. The reviewed notices do not establish a complete current document checklist; follow the live portal’s instructions rather than assuming the older list is exhaustive.
  4. Review the placement and payment terms: Check the current cycle’s duration, on-site requirements, stipend, performance conditions, and placement details before applying. The prior cohort’s stipend and duration are not guaranteed terms for a later one.

The second-cohort notice listed PITB contact details as 042-99000000, extensions 1925, 1908, and 1207, and [email protected]. Confirm that those details remain current before relying on them.

What companies were invited to participate?

For the next cycle, PITB invited IT companies, BPOs, ISPs, telecom companies, and banks’ IT departments to partner. The notice said a partner company must be registered with PSEB or the relevant regulator, have a functional office in Punjab, and provide suitable office infrastructure and a professional working environment. PITB described a monthly support amount of PKR 12,500 per intern for partner companies; it said the Government of Punjab funds the stated PKR 50,000 intern stipend. These are company-side terms described in the August 2026 notice, not additional money payable to an intern.

What the announcements do—and do not—establish

The notices describe an internship placement and announced stipend, not a guaranteed job after completion. They do not provide a complete current list of host companies, locations, selection stages, or verified post-internship employment outcomes. The reported count of more than 2,400 refers to paid internships announced in the June 2026 closing notice; it is not an independently verified job-placement result.

PITB described the initiative as a way to connect graduates with companies and strengthen Punjab’s IT ecosystem. For a prospective applicant, the practical questions are whether a new candidate window is open, whether the current eligibility rules fit, and what the specific placement and payment terms say. The portal is the place to verify those details for a later cohort.
