Yes. CIBC says customers can use its CreditView Dashboard at no charge, and checking through the service will not affect their credit score. The score is for education, not a promise of loan or credit-card approval—and CIBC’s current pages do not consistently identify the same credit bureau for every score feature.
How to check your score through CIBC
CIBC says clients can access CreditView through online banking or the CIBC mobile app. Sign in and look for CreditView or the credit-score service in the banking interface; exact navigation labels may vary. CIBC lists a credit report, a CreditVision Risk Score, a score simulator, credit education and alerts about changes to the credit report among the dashboard’s features. See CIBC’s CreditView page and terms and its help page about checking a credit report and score.
Will checking your own score hurt it?
No. CIBC’s current CreditView terms say, “There is no charge for this service and using it will not impact your credit score.” CIBC’s help article likewise says checking your own score will not negatively affect it. This is a check for your own information, not an application for credit.
Which credit bureau supplies the score?
CIBC’s current materials describe the source differently. The CreditView page says information is supplied by TransUnion and describes obtaining information from the Trans Union of Canada credit file. CIBC’s help-page terms also define a “Free Credit Score Service” as a feature offering an Equifax Canada score. The pages do not establish one bureau as the universal source for every CIBC score feature.
#1 Best Overall
Check the dashboard and the terms for the specific feature you use to see which source applies. CIBC says that each use of CreditView involves sharing your name, address and date of birth with TransUnion Consumer Interactive, Inc. to confirm your identity and obtain credit-file information.
What the score can—and cannot—tell you
The dashboard can help you monitor credit information and learn about factors affecting your score. But CIBC describes CreditView as educational, not financial advice. The score is not a credit approval, and CIBC says it does not review or use the CreditView information to make a decision. A lender may use a different score or consider other information, so the number in the dashboard is not a guarantee of how a lender will assess an application.
Scores from different bureaus or scoring models may differ; they should not be treated as interchangeable. CIBC’s Equifax-related terms specifically note that Equifax’s proprietary score may differ from scores used by third parties or, in some cases, by CIBC.
A score is not the same as a full credit-report review
A score is a snapshot; a report contains the underlying credit-history information. If you want to check for accounts or other details you do not recognize, review your report as well as your score. The Financial Consumer Agency of Canada says consumers can request free credit reports from Equifax and TransUnion. It also describes a free, non-electronic way to obtain an Equifax score. See the agency’s guide to getting a credit report and score.

Why older articles may describe the service differently
CIBC announced its free mobile credit-score feature on June 2, 2017, describing a partnership with Borrowell and Equifax Canada. At launch, CIBC said the check used a soft inquiry and the Equifax score would be updated quarterly. Those are launch-era details, not proof of the current provider or update schedule. The current CreditView page lists a monthly credit report, but CIBC’s materials do not establish a single refresh cadence for every score feature today. The 2017 announcement is best read as historical context.
