What were the Celtics vs. Mavericks Game 1 odds in 2024?
FanDuel Research reported these pregame prices for the June 6, 2024 NBA Finals opener. Its article attributed the lines, odds, and props to FanDuel Sportsbook. Prices can differ across sportsbooks and change with the time of a quote, so this is one publisher’s historical snapshot, not a universal market price.

On the spread, Boston needed to win by at least seven points to cover -6.5; Dallas could cover +6.5 by winning outright or losing by six or fewer. The final margin was 18, so Boston covered the quoted spread. The 107-89 score totaled 196 points, below the quoted 217.5-point total.
For a moneyline, the quoted number expresses the price on a win rather than a point margin. At -245, a hypothetical $245 stake would have returned $100 in profit if Boston won, plus the stake; at +200, a hypothetical $100 stake would have returned $200 in profit if Dallas won, plus the stake. Those examples explain the odds format, not a recommendation or a current offer.

Who won Game 1, and what decided it?
Boston beat Dallas 107-89 at TD Garden. The Associated Press reported Brown scored 22 points, Porzingis added 20 off the bench, Derrick White scored 15, and Doncic led the Mavericks with 30. Porzingis, returning from injury, had six rebounds and three blocks in 21 minutes.
Porzingis told the AP afterward: “Tonight was affirmation to myself that I’m pretty good. I’m not perfect but I can play like this and I can add to this team.” His return supplied an immediate impact for Boston, while Doncic’s 30-point night was not enough to keep Dallas close on the scoreboard.

What did the pregame prediction get right—and wrong?
NBA.com NBABet writer Jason Radowitz’s June 4, 2024 preview picked Dallas to win the series at +184. He pointed to the Mavericks’ postseason form and the Doncic-Irving pairing, while questioning how much Boston had been tested against injured opponents. He also described Boston’s defense and Dallas’s shooting efficiency as important factors in what he expected could be a close series. That was an individual pre-series opinion, not an official league forecast or a guarantee.
The case for Boston rested on its regular-season strength and home-court advantage: NBA.com described the Celtics as the league’s best team by record. Dallas had finished 50-32 and advanced through the Clippers, Thunder, and Timberwolves. The Mavericks’ playoff momentum and central backcourt duo offered a plausible counterargument, but Game 1’s result favored Boston decisively.

Radowitz’s preview also said Dallas became “just the eighth team in the NBA over the last 40 years to make the Finals after opening the season with odds of +2500 or worse.” That is a historical claim attributed to the June 4, 2024 NBA.com NBABet preview; it describes the stated 40-year frame, not a current statistic.
