About 3,200 IAM District 837 members at Boeing Defense facilities in the St. Louis area rejected the company’s latest contract proposal on October 26, 2025, after nearly three months on strike. The strike later ended: IAM reported that members ratified a new agreement on November 13 and were expected to return to work November 16, 2025.
Which Boeing strike was this?
This was the 2025 strike by IAM District 837 members at Boeing facilities in St. Louis and St. Charles, Missouri, and Mascoutah, Illinois. It was separate from the 2024 strike involving commercial-airplane machinists. The union said about 3,200 members were involved and that their work included assembling and maintaining advanced aircraft and weapons systems, including the F-15 and F/A-18. The strike began August 4, 2025, according to IAM’s strike announcement.
What happened to Boeing’s latest proposal?
On October 26, 2025, IAM announced that members had rejected Boeing’s latest proposal. The union characterized the result as a response to the company’s failure to address workers’ core priorities. IAM also said it was the fourth rejection of an offer. Its announcement followed an earlier rejection of a modified five-year offer on September 12.
Boeing’s October offer fact sheet described a revised five-year proposal. The terms below are the company’s description of the rejected offer, not the later ratified contract:

| Proposed provision | Boeing’s description |
|---|---|
| Contract term and wage increases | Five years, with general wage increases totaling 24% over the term. |
| Ratification payment | $3,000. |
| Restricted stock units | Valued at $3,000 as of October 31, 2025, and scheduled to vest over three years. |
| Other provisions | The fact sheet also summarized progression and shift-related pay, retirement, and health benefits. It said some attendance-progression or additive amounts had been reduced compared with the prior company proposal. |
These figures come from Boeing’s October 20, 2025 proposal fact sheet. They describe proposed terms only; they do not establish what workers ultimately received.
Why did workers reject the offer?
IAM’s bargaining communications identified disagreements over the five-year term, retirement security, the ratification bonus, and wage progression for top-of-scale employees. Those are the union’s stated member priorities, not an independent finding about the cause of the vote. Boeing’s fact sheet summarizes the company’s proposal but does not establish why members voted against it.

The contrast was not simply between a headline wage-increase percentage and no increase. The union’s stated concerns also involved how progression applied to experienced workers, retirement, and the value of a one-time payment relative to ongoing terms. The October proposal’s bonus and stock units were separate items, and neither should be treated as the final agreement’s terms.
How and when did the strike end?
IAM reported that members ratified a new contract on November 13, 2025, ending the strike that had begun August 4. The union said workers were expected to begin returning November 16. The later ratification announcement, rather than the rejected October offer, is the relevant outcome for the dispute. See IAM’s ratification announcement.

What this means for the strike’s financial impact
The available figures establish the approximate number of workers and the company’s proposed compensation terms, but they do not establish the strike’s economic losses, production effects, or impact on defense readiness. Nor do the October proposal figures tell readers what the final contract provided. The strike’s resolution is documented by the union’s ratification announcement; broader financial consequences require separate evidence.
