Re:

XTB vs Capital.com: Which Broker Is Better?

XTB is generally the better fit for real shares, ETFs and broader investing, while Capital.com is aimed more directly at simple CFD trading. The right choice depends on your country, legal entity and total trading costs.

XTB and Capital.com serve different kinds of traders. XTB is the more rounded investing platform: in supported countries, it combines commission-free real-stock and ETF investing with CFDs and its xStation platform. Capital.com is more narrowly focused on leveraged CFD trading, with a simple proprietary interface and no separate trading commission.

That distinction matters more than a small spread difference. If you want to buy and hold shares or ETFs, XTB is usually the better fit where those products are available. If you want a straightforward CFD-only account and prefer Capital.com’s interface, Capital.com may be the better match. Neither is suitable for a US resident looking for a regulated retail brokerage account.

Quick verdict

Priority Better fit Reason
Buying real shares and ETFs XTB Offers investment products in addition to CFDs in supported jurisdictions.
Simple CFD trading Capital.com Its proprietary platform is designed around a straightforward CFD workflow.
One platform for investing and trading XTB Its offering can cover long-term investments and leveraged products, subject to local availability.
Education and beginner-friendly charting Capital.com Its platform puts substantial emphasis on guided learning and accessible market tools.
Advanced order types and a broader trading workflow XTB xStation generally provides a more developed multi-asset trading environment.
US residents Neither Neither broker is a normal US retail brokerage option.

This is not a universal winner. The legal entity, country of residence, account classification and available products can change the result.

4X Trading Journal for Day Traders | Trade Log Book for Stocks, Forex, Options, Crypto | 12 Week Plan with 80 Trades | Trading Accessories | Neuroscience Based with Guided Trading Plan | Traders Gift
  • BUILT FOR YOUR MARKET, FUTURES, STOCKS, FOREX, OPTIONS & CRYPTO: 4X is a mindset and process journal, not a strategy tool tied to one instrument. The plan, the trade log, the deep dive and the weekly review work the same whether you trade ES, EURUSD, SPY or BTC. Traders use it across all five markets every day.
  • THE 2026 EDITION, REBUILT FROM TRADER FEEDBACK: Same trusted system, better in every way. An extra daily page for more room to log the session. Weekly reviews now grouped with each week's trades, so no more flipping back and forth. Crisp, darker print that's easy on the eyes after hours on a screen. A Quick-Start QR that scans straight to step-by-step instructions.
  • NOT A NOTEBOOK, A COMPLETE 12-WEEK SYSTEM: Start with a one-time 9-part Trading Plan (your market, setups, risk rules and discipline checklist). Then twelve identical weeks: five Daily Logs, five Deep Dive trade pages, and a two-page Weekly Review. 189 guided pages, roughly 80 trades. Guided prompts walk you through every step. You never stare at a blank page.
  • RATE YOUR EXECUTION, NOT YOUR RESULT: Your platform tracks the P&L. Nothing tracks the why. Log energy, sleep and mindset before the open; grade every trade A to F on whether you followed your plan, not on whether it won; then face the pattern every weekend with START / STOP / IMPROVE / CONTINUE. That review habit is the edge. You're 42% more likely to hit a goal you've written down.

  • Real shares and exchange-traded funds;
  • Share, index, commodity, forex and cryptocurrency CFDs;
  • Fractional or fractional-rights products, where offered;
  • Cash and derivatives through the same general platform.

The important qualification is that “XTB offers shares” does not mean every XTB customer receives the same share product. In one country a client may receive real securities; in another, the available product list may be more limited or may include only CFDs. Check the product disclosure and fee schedule shown during local account opening.

Capital.com

Capital.com is primarily a CFD provider. Its headline attraction is a relatively simple interface in which the dealing ticket, chart, risk controls and market information sit close together. It does not generally compete with a traditional investment platform for long-term ownership of ordinary shares and ETFs.

That makes the comparison easy to misunderstand. A CFD on Apple is not the same as owning Apple shares. A CFD normally tracks the price without giving the investor the underlying voting rights or ordinary shareholder ownership, and leveraged positions can incur overnight financing.

Investing versus CFD trading

For a long-term investor, XTB has the more useful structure if real shares or ETFs are available in your jurisdiction. You can potentially buy an unleveraged position, hold it for years and avoid the daily financing mechanics attached to a leveraged CFD.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Capital.com is better considered a trading account. Its products are designed for speculation on price movements, whether the position is long or short. That can be useful for a disciplined, experienced trader, but it is a poor substitute for a diversified investment account.

CFDs also introduce risks that do not exist in the same form when buying an unleveraged share:

  • Leverage: a relatively small deposit controls a larger position, magnifying losses as well as gains.
  • Financing: keeping many CFD positions open overnight can materially affect returns.
  • Margin close-out: the broker can close positions when available margin falls too far.
  • Counterparty exposure: the CFD is a contract with the broker rather than direct ownership of the asset.

XTB also offers CFDs, so choosing XTB does not automatically make trading safer. The account type and product you select matter as much as the brand.

Fees: compare the complete transaction, not the headline

XTB fees

XTB’s pricing commonly distinguishes between real stocks and ETFs, CFDs, currency conversion and account activity. In some European markets, XTB advertises commission-free trading in real stocks and ETFs up to a monthly turnover threshold, after which a commission may apply. Currency conversion can still be charged when the security is denominated in a different currency.

CFD pricing normally comes through the spread, while holding a position overnight can generate swap or financing charges. Some products, such as share CFDs, may have additional commission. The exact rates depend on the XTB entity and the instrument.

Capital.com fees

Capital.com generally advertises no separate trading commission on its standard CFD trades. That does not mean trading is free. The main costs can include:

  • The spread between the buy and sell price;
  • Overnight funding on positions held beyond the broker’s daily cutoff;
  • Currency-conversion charges when the account and instrument currencies differ;
  • A premium for using a guaranteed stop, where that feature is available;
  • Any payment-provider or bank charges outside the broker’s control.

The spread displayed on the order ticket is more useful than a generic “from” number. Spreads can widen around market openings, economic announcements, thin liquidity and sharp price movements.

A practical cost comparison

Before choosing either broker, calculate the expected cost for your actual behaviour:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Choose the precise instrument, not just the asset class. EUR/USD and a small-cap share CFD have very different pricing.
  2. Record the spread shown when the market is open and again during a volatile period.
  3. Include the commission, if any, on both opening and closing the position.
  4. Multiply the overnight charge by the number of nights you expect to hold the trade.
  5. Add currency conversion if your deposit, account balance and instrument use different currencies.
  6. Compare the total cost as a percentage of the position—not only as a dollar amount.

A commission-free CFD can be more expensive than a commission-based account if its spread or financing charge is higher. Conversely, a raw-spread account is not automatically cheaper for small trades or long holding periods.

Platforms and usability

XTB xStation

XTB’s xStation platform is available through web and mobile interfaces. It is built as a multi-asset platform, with watchlists, charts, market news, order management, portfolio information and screening tools in one place.

Its strength is breadth: an investor can use the same general ecosystem for shares, ETFs and CFDs where the local entity supports them. The trade-off is that a broader platform can feel busier than a purpose-built beginner CFD app.

Capital.com platform

Capital.com offers web and mobile trading through its own platform and has also supported integrations with third-party platforms in some markets, including MetaTrader and TradingView. Availability should be checked locally rather than assumed from a global product page.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The proprietary interface is usually the easier starting point for a new CFD trader. Charts, sentiment-style tools, educational material and the trade ticket are presented in a relatively accessible format. However, a simple interface does not simplify leveraged-trading risk.

Neither platform should be selected solely because its demo account looks cleaner. Test the features that affect real decisions: stop-loss placement, guaranteed-stop terms, overnight funding display, order confirmation and the process for withdrawing money.

Markets and product range

XTB is generally the stronger choice for someone who wants both investments and derivatives. Its available market list may include thousands of real shares and ETFs alongside CFDs, though the precise catalogue differs by country.

Capital.com typically presents a broad CFD catalogue across forex, indices, commodities, shares, cryptocurrencies and other markets. Its advertised market count should not be compared directly with XTB’s share count: brokers classify instruments differently, and one “market” may represent a CFD while another represents an underlying security.

For a product comparison, check these questions:

  • Is the product a real security or a CFD?
  • Can it be held without leverage?
  • What are the trading hours and corporate-action rules?
  • Is overnight financing charged?
  • Can you transfer the asset to another broker?
  • What happens to fractional holdings if you close the account?

Regulation and investor protection

Both companies operate through multiple legal entities. The protections that matter to you come from the entity named in your account agreement—not from every licence held by the wider corporate group.

Depending on the jurisdiction, protections may include segregated client money, negative-balance protection for retail CFD accounts, an investor-compensation scheme and restrictions on retail leverage. These protections have limits and are not the same as protection against investment losses.

Before depositing, open the broker’s legal documents and identify:

  1. The exact company accepting your application;
  2. Its regulator and licence number;
  3. Whether you are classified as retail or professional;
  4. The applicable compensation scheme and maximum coverage;
  5. The negative-balance and margin-close-out rules;
  6. Whether the product is a real asset or a derivative contract.

Professional status can remove some retail protections while increasing available leverage. Higher leverage is not a benefit if it increases the chance of a forced liquidation.

Deposits, withdrawals and account administration

Both brokers normally support common electronic funding methods, but the options, currencies, limits and processing times depend on country. Use an account in your own name. Third-party funding can trigger compliance checks or prevent a withdrawal to the original method.

Keep these practical points in mind:

  • Verify your identity before making a large deposit.
  • Check whether a card deposit must first be returned to that card.
  • Confirm whether profits must be sent to a verified bank account.
  • Allow extra time for bank, card or intermediary-provider processing.
  • Read the broker’s dormant-account and minimum-balance terms.

The fastest deposit method is not necessarily the fastest withdrawal method. A small test withdrawal can reveal payment restrictions before a larger balance is involved.

Which broker is better for different users?

Choose XTB if you want to invest as well as trade

XTB is the more logical option if your plan includes buying diversified ETFs, holding real shares or keeping an unleveraged portfolio alongside occasional trades. It is also the stronger candidate if you want a single account environment rather than a dedicated CFD account and a separate investment broker.

Choose Capital.com if you want a focused CFD interface

Capital.com may suit you if you understand CFDs, want a clean proprietary platform and do not need direct ownership of shares or ETFs. Its lack of a separate dealing commission can make the pricing easier to understand, although you still need to inspect spreads and financing.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Choose neither if you are a passive beginner

If your goal is retirement saving or long-term wealth building, a regulated investment broker offering low-cost, unleveraged funds may be more appropriate than either CFD-focused proposition. A demo account does not remove the risk of leveraged trading, and educational content is not a substitute for a financial plan.

How to make the final choice

  1. Enter your country of residence on both websites and note the legal entity offered.
  2. Decide whether you need real shares and ETFs or only CFDs.
  3. Download each fee schedule for your jurisdiction.
  4. Price one representative trade, including spread, commission, conversion and overnight costs.
  5. Check the platform’s stop-loss, margin and withdrawal controls.
  6. Read the product-intervention and investor-protection documents.
  7. Start with the smallest sensible deposit and avoid leverage you cannot afford to lose.

FAQ

Is XTB safer than Capital.com?

Neither brand can be declared universally safer. Both operate through different legal entities, and the relevant regulator, compensation scheme, negative-balance rules and product protections depend on where you live and which entity opens your account. Safety also depends on whether you buy an unleveraged security or trade a leveraged CFD.

Is XTB cheaper than Capital.com?

It depends on the product and trading pattern. XTB may be cost-effective for real shares and ETFs where its local commission-free allowance applies. Capital.com may be straightforward for CFD trades because it generally does not add a separate dealing commission, but spreads, overnight funding and currency conversion still apply. Compare the complete cost of your own trade.

Can I buy real stocks on Capital.com?

Capital.com is primarily a CFD platform, so a stock position there is generally a derivative rather than direct ownership of the underlying shares. If direct ownership matters, check XTB’s local investment-product terms or use a conventional stockbroker.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Does XTB offer CFDs?

Yes. XTB offers CFDs in supported jurisdictions, alongside other products in some markets. CFDs can be leveraged, incur spread and potentially overnight financing, and are not the same as owning the underlying asset.

Which broker is better for beginners?

XTB is the better fit for a beginner whose goal is long-term investing in shares or ETFs, assuming those products are available locally. Capital.com’s interface may be easier for learning the mechanics of CFD orders, but CFDs themselves are not beginner-friendly investments because leverage and financing can magnify losses.

Can US residents open an XTB or Capital.com account?

Neither is generally a standard option for US residents seeking a retail brokerage account. Eligibility changes by country and legal entity, so US readers should use a broker authorised for US residents rather than relying on an international website.

Which broker has better leverage?

There is no meaningful universal answer. Maximum leverage is set by the applicable regulator, asset class and client classification. Retail clients often face leverage limits, while professional clients may receive higher leverage but lose some protections. Higher leverage increases risk; it is not automatically a broker advantage.

The Bottom Line

For most long-term investors, XTB is the stronger choice where its real-share and ETF products are available. It offers a broader investing proposition rather than a pure CFD account. Capital.com is the better fit for an experienced trader who specifically wants a simple CFD platform and understands that “commission-free” still leaves spreads, financing and conversion costs.

Do not choose between them from a global price page. Confirm your country, legal entity, available products, total trade costs and investor protections first. If your goal is passive investing, compare both with a conventional low-cost investment broker before opening a leveraged CFD account.
