The best way to find a Boxing Day flight deal is to compare flexible travel dates, track your route, and check the full trip cost—not to assume a sale or a particular booking day guarantees a low fare. Does Boxing Day mean cheaper flights?
Not necessarily. A Boxing Day sale announcement and travel on Boxing Day are different things. Expedia Australia’s 2026 air-travel report identifies Boxing Day as one of Australia’s busiest travel dates; that is a finding about travel activity, not proof that fares are high on every route or that airlines will run a sale that day. Expedia Australia’s report is specific to its market and data.
Skyscanner’s general sale-period advice mentions Boxing Day and names Monday, December 26, 2025. That is historical context, not confirmation of a 2026 promotion or its conditions. Skyscanner’s advice should not be treated as a current carrier offer.
Before booking around any advertised promotion, verify the book-by deadline, travel dates, eligible routes, fare class, currency, and exclusions on the airline’s own offer page. A sale label alone does not show whether the fare is competitive for your itinerary.

Where to search and how to monitor fares
Compare dates and itinerary trade-offs
Google Flights offers “Best” and “Cheapest” views, date exploration, and a price graph. Its cheapest results may involve trade-offs such as self-transfer or changing airports between flights. Google says its results draw prices from more than 300 travel partners, but may not include every available offer. See Google Flights’ booking guidance.
Compare nearby departure and return dates rather than treating a general booking-window statistic as a rule. For each option, weigh the total price against stops, journey duration, airport changes, ticket structure, seller, baggage, and fare conditions.

Set a price alert if you are not ready to book
Google Flights lets you track a specific flight or route for selected dates, or choose “Any dates” if your schedule is flexible. Google says it may email you when tracked prices change significantly. Alerts help you monitor a fare; they do not reserve it or guarantee that it will fall. Details are in Google’s price-tracking instructions.
Google Flights also displays in-product tips based on price trends. One tip says, “Prices are unlikely to drop before you book.” That is Google Flights’ high-confidence prediction based on past trends—not a promise about future prices or a universal reason to book immediately. Google’s guidance notes that prices can behave differently.

Consider country-specific deal tools
Expedia announced in February 2026 that its Flight Deals feed was available exclusively in its Canada app. Expedia says the feed identifies fares at least 20% below typical predicted prices for similar flights, analyzes millions of flights, and excludes offers with more than one stop or very long layovers. This is a company-described product threshold, not a guaranteed saving on your chosen itinerary or a Boxing Day promotion. Check Expedia’s announcement for the product’s stated scope and availability.
Booking-window figures are market-specific
Company-reported averages can help frame a search, but they do not predict the cheapest day to buy an individual ticket. The available 2026 figures differ by country and apply to domestic economy bookings:

Use a route’s date comparisons and tracked price history to make a decision. Do not transfer either country’s reported window to another market or assume it applies to every Boxing Day trip.

Add baggage and other fees
Google Flights says its displayed fare includes air transport, VAT/GST, and airport taxes, but additional fees such as baggage and card fees may apply. Its baggage filter can estimate checked-bag and overhead carry-on costs using partner information; estimates may be subject to taxes. A low headline price can shift cost and risk onto you when a trip uses separate tickets or a self-transfer. You may need to collect and recheck baggage, pay change fees on each ticket, or buy a replacement onward flight if a delay causes you to miss the connection. Check whether the itinerary is one ticket, who is responsible for a missed connection, and how much time and airport travel the transfer requires. Google flags these trade-offs in its booking guidance.
Check who sells the ticket and what the fare allows
Google Flights can show booking options from airlines and travel agencies. Before paying, confirm the seller, baggage allowance, change and cancellation terms, and whether the fare shown is the same one you will purchase. Google cautions that its results may not include every offer, so compare with the airline’s own site when the itinerary or price warrants it.
