Why Sunday estimates differ from the chart totals
On Sunday, October 13, the Associated Press reported estimated Friday-to-Sunday grosses of $18.3 million for Terrifier 3 and $7.1 million for Joker: Folie à Deux. That report said final domestic figures would be released Monday. The Numbers’ later weekend chart lists the more precise totals above, so the AP estimates and chart figures reflect different reporting moments rather than a contradiction. What the result says—and what it does not
The weekend was a sharp reversal in the chart’s top position: an independent horror sequel opened at No. 1 while a major-studio sequel dropped to No. 4. Comscore senior media analyst Paul Dergarabedian told the AP, “This is an outlier of a weekend if ever there was one.” He added that the result showed “the audience is the ultimate arbiter of what wins at the box office.”
The ranking answers who won that particular North American weekend. It does not establish which movie had the larger lifetime gross; the figures here cover specific weekend and weekly reporting periods only.
